A whipblade like Ivy from Soul Calibur would be really cool and unique, I don't think that any MMO has that weapon?
Could still fit an '' edgy dark '' Job too.
But yeah Scythe is a fairly safe bet, while I personally actually do want to see it I almost hope that it's something else just for the surprise.
A whipblade would be very awesome, but yeah I doubt it. Don't think they would be able to make it work with the animations at all. Not unless all weapons look the same at least.
As for scythe, I still think it's part of the hint, but technically that doesn't mean the job we're getting will use one.
It could just be there to hint towards some existing character/job, like Sice for example, but it doesn't mean their adaption of it has to use a scythe.
It's like if they were to give hints for Sage instead, they wouldn't have to hint towards their Nouliths or however it's called, with gundam or something. They could just hint towards Sage in some other way, then the weapon can be anything.
Still think Scythes the most likely weapon though, but I do actually prefer other weapons.
Only a month away from the reveal.
Chances are they may have already shown the job in the story or they have not yet. We will find out soon.....
Aged like milk.
Spoiler about 5.5:
When Zenos choose his new weapon, Fandaniel says:
"Well, well... Not quite what I was expecting. Though I will say, it seems rather apt."
Not what Fandaniel expected, so not a sword or any other weapons around Zenos.
It seems rather apt, so it remains a weapon, probably something that cuts due to Zenos weapons of choice in the past. And we have the sound effect of a blade.
That sound might be another clue, maybe Ran'jit used those sound effect? Or just a common sword sound effect. I didn't dig that side yet.
EDIT: I checked and before WoL faces Ran'jit, the same sound effect is played. If that sound isn't played anywhere else, then we have a concrete evidence.
The weapon was still hidden but we can safely assume there is a need to hide it.
Could be a troll and the weapon would be another katana but as Fanfest approach aswell as the next job reveal, you can make the link yourself.
... Yet I'm still with those that thinks the shirt and clues are way, way too obvious for the next job to actually be Reaper.
So, this gave me a thought:
5.5 MSQ spoilers:
Krile had brought up that she was going to go back to Sharlayan to gather help, which I see to be an obvious pointer as to how the Sage teacher will arrive in 6.0 given the job's obvious origins in Sharlayan. This, combined with something she also said had struck an idea in me since they were both close together: specifically she mentioned that our connection with Hydaelyn had gone "dark" or "silent" ever since late Heavensward. In other words we haven't heard from her or received her guidance in almost two expansions, yet we still keep our blessing. If this really is the case and turns out to be true, would it not be far-fetched to guess that if a thematically controversial job like Reaper were to arrive, that we'd still be able to keep our blessing because of this lack of communication?
Food for thought.
Most of the past hints have been pretty obvious though.
Machinist was 007 shirt with a silhouette of Bond holding a gun, Red Mage was a Scarlet Witch shirt, Dark Knight was a Batman shirt and Viera was a Bugs Bunny jacket.
The fact that we're still talking about what we think it will be instead of talking about what we think it'll play like is honestly pretty unusual.
I really don't think an "evil" themed job is too far of a reach. That is an excellent point, and I also think there's the whole rhethoric about using the enemy's power against them. I think that the whole theme fantasy will be something akin to a sibling to DRK... but more focused on the powers that Ascians/Zodiark wield. How it will be introduced, if that's the case, it's an excellent question - maybe a new character will do so... That would also be a nice way to finally connect a job to the main storyline - also with SGE inevitably coming from Sharlayan with Krile.
I'm starting to think that it's something like this, not a scythe now. It seems like, at the very least, it's bladed based off the -slink-:
https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki...-bladed_weapon
My guess is that they'll be detachable from each other and there will be animations with both ends together and basically "dual wielding" each side to flow well within combat. Still not sure on the name of the job, but that's my guess. It would be cool if the rotation involved disconnecting both sides and using some attacks like that, then connecting them and using it as a staff style weapon and using other abilities.
Maybe "Magister"
