Lol perhaps, but I really hope they look nothing like Roe. I don't know where people are getting this Roe is manly thing, but Roe looks like... a Golem to me.

Well, that makes more sense then. Just the way you said some stuff came off as dismissive to me. Like you were trying to shut down people just for hoping we'd still get them. But it is easy to misread stuff like that online, so I'm sorry for putting words in your mouth. :v I get that you're just trying to be realistic. Just some people have different perspectives on how fanfest will go down and what the community response to it will be. I don't think anyone can say with certainty how that will turn out yet.
I'm of the opinion that there is more to the situation than just, "we're getting two genderlocked races." I'm prepared to be completely wrong about that though.
I mean, I'd play kitty buff if they were decent enough - but come on - if we get the Khajiit, I mean High Hrothgar, whatever, then we can't ignore the fact that we've got two bloody genderlocked races. Bad joojoo. Had enough of 'Limited' things in this game.
On the other side, I just had a big old laugh at the idea of 'Dancer' and how we're going to have manly men more than likely using feminine like movements - unless they've really gone out of their way to have dancer be 'neutral' in regards to stances and movements. I can't wait to see Roe's and 'Fus Ro Fur' dance with elegance.
- I can make elder scrolls puns all day, it's better than writing my thesis. Please argue with me so I can procrastinate more, I beg of you.
Ahem; on the plus side - any race that has Omega M or Daddy Byakko body is acceptable for me. I will just have to wear a helmet.

i do remember one of the leaks did say "they are not quiet ronso but are inspired by them"
so if they truly are inspired by them they are big race but they are not Roe size
like Kimahri isn't that much bigger wakka or auron
legit leak or not its still a interesting point
Roe are just more human Galka
hrothgar could just be more human ronso
ALSO odd to me to make a male lion race gender-lock when male lions are a bit more rare compared to female lions
kinda ironic
--shrugs-- something, something reverse mithra
There's awful a lot of ground to cover between roegadyn and "cute bunboys", which is exactly what Yoshi has been resistant to considering in the past.
Thankfully I can fall back on midlanders or au ra if I don't like the male variants of the new race(s) added.
Strictly speaking, there's a number of races which actually do fit that aesthetic. Elezen probably come closest. If the issue is the facial selection, would it not make more sense to simply ask for more facial options?
Yes, except he's not talking about beauty, per se.
Omega M is also a robotic construct. I don't even consider him particularly attractive, nor do I consider Seiryu beautiful.
They just lack what is required to captivate me. Ironically, most prominent examples of elves have far more masculine facial features, be it any Warcraft elven race, TES elves, the WH elves, the Aen elle from Witcher, and even a lot of the D&D elf art.
My guess is that our standards of what is beautiful differ by quite a bit. I already consider many of the auri and midlander male faces to be quite beautiful.
Dude. Plz Omega M is Hot.
https://i.imgur.com/A3TnbDS.jpg
and his physical body structure and face style is not available in game.
I'd Love more customization options but they are not doing that.
I'm also kinda of happy that Elezen are the way they are.
Whats more annoying is that people keep asking for MORE MACHO options when they already have 3 to chose from and pretty boys only have midlanders who have kinda weird shaped bodies.
Well prepare to continue to be annoyed, in that event.
As for Omega M, I am aware of what he looks like. I honestly don't find him anything special. You can design midlanders to approximate that, and both them and elezen have a very similar body type. Catboys are also fairly slender and can have "pretty" and "cute" face. Even Elezen can, but that face is just poorly adapted to their bodies.
Seems like it's 3 for 3, but you're just selective in what you're willing to consider as already available.
also omega m has the perfect lean body type that translate both feminine and masculine. 3 pretty faces and one traditionally strong jaw masc face and we have a race of men bunnies that suit everyone!!!
Elezen dont look anything like that and have awkward bodies.. stop pushing that.
Miqo can be cute- but its a stretch for them to look more on the beautiful side.
I have given you highlander.
So while I MAY have some options to create my aesthetic there is not a race that is designed around it.
THERE IS 3 Races designed to appeal to macho and handsome men. 4 even because i've seen some butch midllanders... 5 even because you can make masculine miqo.
Despite you stretching your definition of "macho" I'll simply say that I don't like any of the models available and if Hrothgar is something that works for me, I'm all for it. Same if male Viera comes out and they're manly. Like even if there are options doesn't mean there can't be MORE options. (Even though I disagree with your opinion that there are 5 options because come on.)
Ok... i'm getting a bit overzealous..
However if I went into the CC right now.. I could design a more masculine MACHO( i like this word) guys with each race. elezen have that grampa face and the masculine looking corsair type faces. miqo have nunh face. all the highlander faces. 3 of the au ra faces. all of the roe faces. so more like 3 3/4
However if i wanted to be a lean pretty boy.
highlander- most of the faces. miqo.. kinda but these all look more cute. that one aura face.. but then you got those bulky bodies.. elezen if i work reeeeaaaal hard. dassit.
honestly i hope we get both male viera.. and hrothgar. so we can all be happy
In terms of the actual body type, Elezen do fit that. You may find them awkward, but it doesn't change that they have a slender body type. Also, they're awkward in comparison to a custom-made NPC that flies around in the air for most of the time. I would say SE should focus on rectifying the awkwardness in their poses/proportions. They're already planning to review their Sprint animation.
With respect to that last statement, in terms of body types, there are certainly 3 races which fit the bill. I won't deny that you can make both midlanders and catmen look macho, but the point is rather that they can be designed in the opposite direction, too.
Also, to put into perspective what most consider to be well built in terms of Viera, it would be this:
http://cdn4.dualshockers.com/wp-cont.../04/Viera1.jpg
So, somewhere between au ra and elezen. It's not exactly the Hulk.
Throwing it out there now, if you're wanting a face that looks like omega-m you're gonna be disappointed. That face is just too... Amano-looking to be on a real race in this game. If you're just after the body-type, we will see. I personally think it's strikingly similar to the midlander fully chiseled build. And really, it's not just about the slender vs muscular bit with these races. You have to remember Hrothgar is supposed to be lion-like. Which would be cool on its own. Despite the silly roe in a wolfman outfit post way back, there's no way to make that in game.
Lol, hilarity of very subjective opinions the game has really only 2 really masculine male options, roegadyn and highlanders. Au Ra come close, but those child bearing hips are not a masculine trait in my opinion.
I'll be honest and say I don't think SE would ever actually release a purely effeminate male race, it's just super unlikely to happen because while it would have its fans, it'd also mean releasing a race pair that would only be effeminate (one female option, one effeminate male option). A masculine female race would alsp equally never happen as female roe is as close as it got and they are criminally underplayed. I just don't see them ever doing it. Not when the game is filled with gender locked outfits, hairstyles, and even emotes.
I'd be very happy if we got the concept art male viera, personally. They don't look cutesy or effeminate to me at all. I don't get why anyone would think they're weird. The average miqote looks more effeminate than those male viera do.
Funny you say that, because I took one look at that screenshot and thought oh, I definitely recognise those body proportions...
https://img2.finalfantasyxiv.com/acc...92844c7229.jpg
Omega is a bit slimmer in the torso, but that can be down to individual costume pieces. Other than that, he's pretty clearly built from an Elezen base model - and I don't think the face is that different from what's possible with Elezen settings, either.
Really. Play around with Duskwight face #2 (maybe also #1) and see if you can find something you like.
If you want Omega specifically, you can get that skin colour, and from memory there's a hairstyle that's basically a tamer version of his.
Im all in for Hrothgar being bulky/macho. But I still wouldn't play them, as I never touched Roe or Highlanders. I respect people's wishes, hence I said it would be best case scenario to release 2 "final" races to cover actually this demand.
I just would like to see handsome, young male Viera and not another race that is "tall" and 3 of 4 faces being angry/pissed/old-dude-looking. That is my preference and no matter how we turn the table, we all have our differences in this matter. I just would like to remind people not to smash others wishes/tastes.
Why should they agree with you when you are not respecting them?
edit:
and omg that neck is reaching heaven?!
Stop trying to make elezen happen. Just stop it. If elezen looked good they wouldn't be as rare as roe. Objectively ugo.
At least Roe players picked a good looking orc/ogre race, and not an ugly elf.
It'd be ideal for them to release 2 races, however Hrothgar remain an enigma and there's an awful lot of body types which either race could fit.
I would not be disappointed if they enabled Hrothgar to feature faces like Byakko's, maybe with a body type similar to an au ra's or highlander's. I don't believe they will make them too similar to roegadyn, both because of that race's % of characters played but also because they'd probably want to distinguish it physically.
For Viera, I do like the official concept art they have put forward, but something like this would work (albeit I think it's consistent with the concept art):
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dyegp4vVAAAI_kz.png
They do need to eventually re-visit the older races and broaden the customisation options, since some of the issues appear to arise due to limited customisation options for them, or design flaws, like the awkwardness in elezen models.
Yeah he actually works for me as well albeit i'd use the prettier face option and no beard..
maybe make his arms thinner and we got a deal.
I'd have been a lot happier with Raen/Xaela if not for their hips. The proportions just seem off to me and I think it'd have been better to give them clawed hands and feet and more scale patterns. Hrothgar could be designed to be fairly muscular but with no weird proportions - with the distinct features being patches of fur, a mane and clawed hands/feet. Give them a face similar to Byakko and they'd look human but inhuman at the same time.
Roegadyn are far too bulky. Highlander men lack eyebrows. The latter could be solved by updating the character customisation system - which is really what a lot of people should be pushing for. That way, everybody wins.
the thing about viera specifically that i loved was that it was the first fantasty race that was featured as beautiful with darker skin tones. Even if they are now selling the very white washed version of them. But they made a beautiful race that was kinda ethnic. I loved that about them. So I NEED THE MALES
They're not going to get "fixed", because that'll affect the people who are already playing as those characters and happy with them - and an awful lot of important NPCs that rely on the same data.
And I still think it's worth another play around with the face settings. I'd actually made this comparison of a few characters and their data a while back - if you maybe start with the settings for Artoirel and play around from there?
Surely it's worth a shot if the alternative is not being happy with any of the designs.
If only the game wasn't built around a crappy spaghetti coded base. It makes me wonder what kind of game XIV could be without all these restrictions.
If Yoshi had developed this game from the start without the rush on limited budget to make it work and attract only few thousand subscribers to make it just viable enough to erase the costs of the 1.0 failure, it would be a truly way better game than it is.
Unfortunately the game engine and base code is almost a mess and combined with the lack of extra developer staff and extra budget it ties Yoshi's hands behind his back.
Adding extra customization options in character selection screen is a much requested feature yet they can't do it.
Same with other QoL features people ask.
A little thing is that, we don't really know what the Hrothgar will look like besides "majestic manes", I think it was even the less trustworthy leaks were the ones pointing towards bulky. It would just tickle me pink it if turns out the race everyone's thinking of "big, bulky, masculine, omg bara cats" turns out to be...miqo'te with manes :D
Dear gods, that irked me as well, not to open a can of worms but if those were the "dark skinned" viera then I'm black, and I'm a white-passing hispanic <.<
literally all those characters at the top are what elezen are designed to be. They have a i'm a Arrogant proud race look but they are also too severe.
this is also a discussion involving the inclusion or exclusion of a new race. So while i'm happy with my miqo. The thing i'm looking for is still not yet present in this game.
My first character was an elezen. I have played with it on many occasions. the fantasia money i've spent is through the roof.
The issue with this is if you're thinking elezen are designed to be arrogant and proud then what do you think male Viera would be like? Their lore literally has them down as cold-blooded murderers that are hostile. They'll kill you for being in their wood - it's down in black and white that they'll kill you and not even bother to ask you why you're there most of the time, and even if they do ask you they'll kill you anyway. That's how the males are. They're cold/detached and vicious.
Even if they're beautiful there's no stepping away from that lore that male Viera are 'dark as heck' in regards to their lore and in some regards, tragic. Whatever 'humanity' and 'warmth' they have is stomped out of them as soon as they're dragged away from their mothers.
Edit; Fran is an example of the female type personality. Fran is also cold and tends to keep her emotions neutral. Viera are very proud people, to the point that they too are somewhat arrogant.

<.< I think most of Omega M's attractiveness comes from how well designed that armour looks on his model. It does, however, look like the body is that of a Hyur/Elezen. I don't think the face is that all far off to achieve.
The ONLY acceptable elezen in the game are Ramuh, Shiva, and Aymeric. I want tall, lean, conventionally attractive, with no horns.
I realise it might be “what they’re designed to be”, but I feel like Omega is as well - possibly more so. His face structure looks very similar to me, and (unlike some of those example characters) he really does have the arrogant “superior” personality that goes with it.
Still, personal taste and all that...
Y'all gotta remember that this discussion is centered around personal preference. Different stuff looks/feels different to different folks. Elezen can be made to look good as previously stated, but it still comes with a little challenge, and even then it still may not satisfy what one is looking for. (Elezen features are all very angular. where as from what we've seen from the female Viera there's a potential for more rounder softer features in the males, and I think that's what some people are hoping for face wise anyways.) I have an Elezen alt that I love to bits,(1, 2, 3 I find going for the charcoal skin helps hide some of the sharp contours of the face... by making it harder to see.) but I do wish I had different and more interesting options for my main.
If this gender lock goes through( heck even if it doesn't) we need more options. FFXIV is kinda behind on this point with most new mmos having the option to straight up morph features to your liking(even some older ones did too). While I understand that this game's engine is kinda old and hard for the devs to work with,( and i won't even pretend to know how it works) it doesn't seem to be stopping them from adding new hairstyles every major patch. What is really stopping them from giving us more options for face, eyes, nose, body, etc. too?
It all seems to boil down to options and what we as players are given in what is, essentially, a theme-park mmo. We already got BLU because the players wanted it, and now we are getting Viera because the players wanted it. I'm worried why they would then potentially limit our options by gender locking and limiting races after going through all this trouble to please the players in the first place. This is the only thing that allows me to hold on to hope for the FanFest announcements next week.
