Tales from Duty Finder: Some make you laugh, some make you cry. Let's vent.

The other night, I went into the leveling roulette with my DRK. Lo and behold, I get Sastasha, and so prepare to be extremely bored for several minutes. However, before we begin, while I wait for the AST to cast protect, the Pugilist chimes in and says this is their first piece of group content ever, and apologizes for any screw-ups they may perform. I immediately prepare for the group to collectively groan...

...when everyone starts helping them.

I was marking targets, while the healer explained the basics of the UI (i.e. Enemy/enmity list, party frames, how to switch action bars, how to assign hotkeys, how to move stuff around, etc.). The THM began explaining the basics of how combos work, how to watch your buffs and enemy debuffs, even simple things like where the boss room started, and what to do if you pull enmity (which, thankfully, did not happen). We took turns explaining the boss mechanics, and what was going to happen, and proceeded through one of the cleanest Sastasha runs I've ever had. That Pugilist rocked his stuff, too, and the whole group was super helpful.

It's one of those times when I wish I could have commended everyone. People were super helpful, amazingly welcoming and friendly, and it just made me really happy to be playing this game. Always love it when I get groups that remind me how incredible this community can be. :)

Nothing about the lackluster tanking, but Cutter's Cry isn't a required dungeon. It's entirely possible to skip it until you run into needing it for a GC hunting log.

Just had something never happen to me before in trial roulette. Got Ruda HM. I'm leveling my DRK (58) and the other tank is in DPS stance, so I pop grit. The barrier goes down and two dps immediately rush in and pull. I provoke and try to establish hate as best I can, but they are fighting me for it tooth and nail.

I LOS the rock pillar for shriek, then I pull the boss away from the rocks so her aoes don't hurt them before the ultimate. They are still plunking away at the boss. This time, I have threat so it's okay.
The ultimate comes, I los behind the rock and pop a cool down, I pick up the boss and drag her away, but I didn't get there quite before the super-crazy DPS who ignored the ultimate and took massive damage but got to the boss first. Because I'm back to fighting them for hate, I got a little turned around and pulled the boss west and not south by accident. I'm watching the aggro meters so I didn't notice that everyone is blowing up chat

"Lol, old school in here"
"Keke are you a bot?"
"I think it's a f'ing bot."

The boss teleports south and I run to pick the boss back up. I no longer have hate. I see the chat and I'm all like ?? I made one mistake, but we are positively destroying her. I didn't die, I didn't get anyone killed. What is the big deal?

So I was like, "No...?"

And his guy was like, "Well, wtf are u doin then?"

"Tanking?"

"Solo? lol"

At this point, the boss is dead. Couldn't get hate back ever after the teleport. They're laughing at me. I'm pretty peeved, so I type, "Whatever man." And I leave.

But seriously? Who deliberately pulls a boss as a DPS and then freaks out when the tank makes one mistake? I've had 99% great DF experiences in this game, but this one was really unsettling. Faith in playerbase slightly decreased.

Had a in progress vault with 51 minutes in progress and they were just at the second boss. One shot second boss but on final boss the healer kept getting killed by chains. They were at a decent MP it wasn't until I was connected to them that I noticed the healer was running after me with tether no matter where I went this continued despite the party telling the healer to separate. At 10 minutes left I decided to just leave than deal with that healer.

Second story another in progress run this time thousands maws get a marauder who couldn't hold aggro no matter what it was after a few pulls I examined them and they had on the level 1 axe they changed it when I mentioned it still annoying it happened though.

It is kinda annoying when you are in a run and someone barely meet the requirements to the point they have to wear gear from another class that doesn't benefit what they que for.

I'd have to agree about the Vault not being difficult to heal. I was told by a couple of people that "Vault is the new AV" or "Vault is so frustrating as healer". I even had my party at the time of my first run of The Vault tell me that it was a difficult dungeon to heal (especially the last boss)... Yeah, no. I thought it was incredibly easy. I don't find AoEs and whatnot hard to heal around. I could see how some people might get overwhelmed by all the bursts of fire, but meh. I don't think it's difficult at all. My team was average at best, and I was running WHM (so no "easy mode" SCH).

I've done this, minus freaking out (though I'll sometimes poke fun at you for being slow. It's not meant to be mean, just to let you know what's up with that particular fight) and I'll tell you why.

It's not that I don't appreciate trying to do it the right way, I do, and I wish the instance was capped at i70 so you still had to. But the people doing garuda hm have done it and/or will do it hundreds of times. Possibly thousands for people trying to get every zeta. Every single second you waste casting buffs that aren't necessary or waiting for people to be ready is multiplied by that amount and adds up to a lot of wasted time. You massively outgear the fight to the point where mechanics don't matter at all, you can live through being hit by every single thing without being healed, and you will kill her before sisters even spawn. So just hurry up and get it over with.

The same applies to all crystal tower instances, Garuda EX, Ifrit HM, and Void Ark because you know only like five dps out of the lot are actually trying anyway.

And it was the worst run I had ever experienced. That poor healer. I helped as much as I could but too many people were dying too quickly on the last boss, and avoiding his ice/lightning AoEs and the ball of lightning that stalks you for a few seconds. I'm surprised we made it out alive (relatively speaking). Went in with gear at 100%. Left with most around 50%. Yeeeeaaaahhh....

I didn't even unlock CC until I had to do it for my relic weapon.
I didn't even know the dungeon existed until that point; I was like ilvl 110 or something.

Some kind of a wtf moment: my warrior friend needed Keeper of the Lake for the story, and I joined him after explaining things he should keep an eye on, including boss mechanics. Well, at the final boss, he forgot about the bubble that protects you from Midgardsormr's big attack which kills you otherwise, so he didn't stand in it - and miraculously survived the attack with about 1500 HP left.

So, was there a meme about the fight getting nerfed that I didn't notice, or is it even normal for a tank to be able to survive the big attack without using their respective invincibility skill? :confused:

And furthermore, the point is that if you're going to go out of your way to make your tanks life harder, a decent person wouldn't complain when they mess up a little bit. In fact, you bring up an excellent point, if it was speed of the instance that are so concerned about, why did they spend so much time being trolls in the chat?

Yeah, but the party isn't part of the equation here. We were discussing the content in general and for all intents and purposes, none of the dungeons are difficult to heal. Now, if you get a terrible party with you, then hell... Even pre-50 dungeons can be considered "difficult to heal", but that wouldn't be a true statement because the dungeon itself isn't the problem, it's your party that's difficult to heal.

Okay so what the actual hell. Why are there healers out there who go autopilot? I just did a run of Haukke (NM) as a DRK and the AST literally only cast Benefic outside of someone else taking damage. When that happened? Helios. Nothing else. She used like 1 card. And she casted Benefic every single time it was up. So every GCD was basically used on Bene... It caused issues on fresh pulls and it made the run a bit slower than it could have been (0 DPS healer ftw). If you don't want to DPS, that's fine. But do something than just stand there and cast your basic healing spell every 2.5 seconds.

She even asked me to pull more mobs after I asked her if she was on autopilot. So I did... I pulled everything besides the group of mushrooms in the hall before the first boss. I ended up dying. She said it was too much... Yeah for JUST Bene alone. She said she only needed one healing spell at that level, besides her AoE heal. Right. As a healer main this really bugs me.

Leveling roulette, I end up in brayflox nm as a white mage.
The rest of the party is made of a paladin, ninja and bard; new player message pops up.

We greet each other, tank starts to run for the first group and then stops, probably unsure on where to go.
For whatever reason, I aggro the mob (I was a bit behind the tank, so idk how how they saw me, I wasn't casting or anything).
Quickly the tank flashes and order is restored.
I apologize to the group, they are chill and tell me not to worry about it, one of them using the phrase "dw, we don't give a f***".

After that, everything goes smoothly until we kill the first boss.
There, it seems like something switched in the tank as he/she starts to do mass pulls without warning.
Things were dying really slowly, tank was using cooldowns but the hits were hard anyway.
I really wished to have holy... I could have used blizzard II, but with the amount of damage the tank was taking, I didn't want to risk it.
And I didn't have time to type, because those 3 would speed up immediately as soon as a group was dead.
We cleared all the extra rooms before the second boss, imo it would have been faster by killing each group separately...

Second boss goes smoothly, this time I can dps a bit.

Now, here it comes the big room.
Tank again does mass pulls, while dps would accidentally body pull sentinels and whatnot.
Again, everything goes down really slowly, while my MP is getting drained really fast.
Of course, we do the small rooms too, idm doing a full run.

After we kill everything, we enter the third miniboss. I finally have a chance to type something other than "MP!" so I explain a bit.
Boss dies without problems, and I prepare myself for the next big pull.

Bard accidentally body pulls stuff, while the ninja goes on to grab more stuff. Like in the very first pull, tank is fast to grab everything.
As before, things die slowly.
We clear everything, and I breath a sigh of relief that we finally are at the last boss.
Boss dead, I get out, 0 comms. Oh well, at least I got my tomes.^^'

My 4th or 5th attempt at Shiva Ex. I've got enough practice down dodging AOEs during phase 2, so I think this should at least be a good run. I get added into an already in progress run, almost 30 minutes in. The party's really chatty, I don't mind. We go for it, get her to around 15-20% before the AOE bow attack wipes most of us. Ok, let's go again. Not as good. Again - we wipe. ~15 minutes remaining, we go in. Going smoothly. Close to the end we start dying out... 5% - only a DRK and a SCH remain. The rest is cheering/chanting in the chat. Shiva at 2%, SCH goes down. Everything's tense! DRK's HP is at 800... 600... 400... 1100... 800... 400... 260... SHIVA GOES DOWN! And the crowd goes wild!!! Needless to say - it was pretty fun ^^

It's a lot easier to carry people in some pre-50 dungeons, and I'd say dungeons like Qarn and AV are dreaded because of how bad they can be with a bad party - it's difficult to heal when people are letting the bee stings go through and standing in poison, for example. In a group of competent people, no dungeon is difficult to heal.

Eh... That would be like working for a company full of incompetent co-workers and claiming:

"This company is the worst."

Even though the company itself is fine, it's just the people involved which are bad. I still stand by my statement about no dungeon being particularly difficult to heal in. Now, if you want to talk about healing parties, then that's a different story altogether. There's no reason to really compare apples to oranges here though.

'Dungeon content' isn't synonymous with 'dungeon party'.

Just got Keeper of the Lake.

Paladin moving very very slowly, telling people to target only one mob at a time, instead of using AoEs.
The Dragoon was only using auto attack 90% of the time. He would get hit by some pushbacks occasionally and then just stood in his new location. One mobs dies, he stands there. Puts away his weapon until the fight is over.

Sometimes an add or two would go for the BLM, and the tank would completely ignore it. I even used Fluid Aura to push the mob away from the BLM and directly onto the tank, and the tank made no effort to take it.

I even /poked the Dragoon who was afk, who responded with /bow.

I really thought the final boss was going to be a wipe.
The tank decided to also only go on Auto attack and stood in all the AoE zones. So did the dragoon. No cooldowns almost no skills.
But, I managed to keep everyone alive even though both of them were getting hit by everything.

In the end I gave the BLM a commendation, even though he did die once by not avoiding a mechanic, I felt bad for them that he was in the same party.

Actually, it's always been possible for the tank to survive that. Especially warriors that might have their extra HP boosting skill up at that moment. But they can't survive if everyone else dies, which is what usually happens.

That's what I wanted to know, I tanked this dungeon exactly once, and then I stood inside this bubble. Additionally, everyone told me that the big attack is a oneshot, and as I've never seen anyone surviving it before, there was no reason for me not to believe this. So, thanks for the info ^^

Finally got the opportunity to drop a meteor on the shielded clouds on CoD last night. Twice, because pulls 1 and 2 wiped to meteors and pull 2's bar didn't fill up fast enough. First pull, /a appreciates it (and then complains about wiping to meteors). By third pull, party is complaining about any non-melee LB. Drop the meteor again anyway, destroy clouds, destroy boss, feel cool for a few minutes :P It's okay guys, I'm done. Just wanted to try.

Bonus, my friend and I made off with the music rolls.

Sometimes it does amuse me to fight the tank for hate as a DPS but no, I don't usually go out of my way to annoy people. But I do push against the gate and shoulder tackle in, because it's just more damage faster that way. It's why if I do decide to tank a trial roulette I do it on dark knight now. Because Plunge is great and almost makes up for the fact that I have no idea how to play dark knight.



But no I'm not saying those guys weren't dicks. They were totally dicks.

Some dps honestly see their job as to fight the tank for hate. Then they also see it as 100% our fault when something goes wrong. Sorry, that's not how team based instances work.

Not really from dutyfinder, but... I was watching a stream the other day, the party was progressing on A7s, which they ended up clearing. So the bard gets the loot, they all go out. All of a sudden we hear on the stream (the whole party was on TS/mumble) : "OMFG". Everybody guesses that he upgraded the wrong item or something.
But nope. The OMFG is when he realized he had cleared A7s wearing his wedding ring. The true power of love.

Totally hilarious.

I see almost everyone has no greeting whatsoever. Completely silent.
So, check the party list and as expected, everyone is "E". (It's fairly rare to get an all "E" party in my data center. But when I do, things usually turn out really really badly.

I brace myself for a rough fight.
As soon as the battle begins, a DPS runs straight off the edge and dies.
"OMG I dropped my controller". He said.

Okay, whatever. We don't need him to win this.
We fire the Dragonslayers and Bismark comes to the island. One overzealous tank jumps too soon as completely misses, falling to his death.
Hilarity ensues.

The other members immediately decide "this is impossible without two tanks, let's all commit suicide".
Not even one person says "Wait let's at least make an effort!"
And everyone proceeds to jump to the death.

I'm surprised they just decided it was impossible. Why not at least try? Heck, there have times I've cleared primal battles and dungeons without even a single tank. And we had a summoner in the group. They could have at least tried using Titan-Egi (something I've done before and worked well instead of a tank).
I've never seen this type of behavior before, where everyone just gives up immediately.

We did manage to complete it on the 3rd try without anyone falling off or dying.

So I que into Castrum Via MS Roulette, this is my first time attempting to heal this so I do not expect to be...perfect so to speak...my party on the other hand apparently did....we eventually make it through without a problem..until last boss pull before it, They do that huge pull, and then instead of taking all those mobs to the cannons, they park them right there in the middle and 8 people including myself trying to aoe heal everyone else so we make it through this crap and...the following occurs, Color coded, Red is the only other person who said we should of used the cannons, Blue is the other healer, Yellow is the other tank.

Mainly that last bit, where I'm getting yelled at for the other healer apparently "solo healing"..and then being told I should be able to handle it...when the other healer is complaining that they were apparently "solo healing" when I couldn't even get a cast off because of all the mobs..begs the question why they couldn't handle it then if I should be able too? Duty finder lol

I hate this mindset. I always fight to the bitter end, no matter how hopeless or pointless. I'm usually one of the last people to release too.

I was leveling PLD earlier. I got the Vault and sighed. It was pretty uneventful until the final boss. My health dropped pretty low a few times, but I never died and figured the healer knew what they were doing. Round 1, we didn't even make it to the fire orbs. I don't even know what happened, my HP just plummeted. I used my cooldowns and everything, but blam I just died. And then the healer and DPS. Round 2 was going great. Made it past the orbs and the first wave of attacks. But then my computer thought it would be a good idea to R:0 me. When everything caught up I had the two Fire AoEs on me and a row of chess pieces breathing down my neck. Round 3 was bumpier then normal. It ended with only me alive with my HP in the triple digits. It was a great run. I love the chaos.

I've only ever healed a couple of times during fates. So, yesterday I was like "I feel like trying conjurer" and so I encouraged myself to do some guildhests. I get in and I say "Yo. new healer here, I'll do my best!". The 1st guildhest went well, everyone was fine and nice about it. I get 2 commendations. I do a few others, same greeting, goes well.

Now, after all available guildhests, I get a little bit cocky and queue for sastasha. Ok! So, we get in, same greeting, they seem cool about it. AND then, DRK goes "I'm doing big pulls"; I'm like OMG OMG WTF and due to not having my keyboard plugged in, I couldn't reply in time and he zooms off. We get to the bit before the pirate captain and due to all these big pulls, we all end up dying. I apologise in chat, tank seems cool about it, we move on. We get to the same bit, and we try again.

DRK dies again, and I'm lucky enough to res him, heal him and also heal the nearly dead MCH. We get to the last boss fight, and smooth sailing.

A6 just now:

Had a stereotypical loldrg. Stood in almost everything. She died at least once per boss, usually more. After the second death on the first boss she pipes up with:

"Welp."
Me: "you are supposed to avoid AOEs btw"
Loldrg: "I know that."
Me: " Your words say that, but your actions say differently"

No, I didn't really say that, I wanted to, but it was early in the run so I bit my tounge and said:

"Just making sure"

Anyway, she continued to stand in almost every AOE and probably dies 8 times in the run. In the end, I stopped healing her, except for AOE heals. It was just a waste. She actually stayed in one of the ice ones on the last boss till death. The other healer was more forgiving and would rez her, only to have her die.

The one tim I rezzed her, she stayed in the swindlers numbered aoe and died right away, on top of giving us the debuff...

on topic (not a horror story) - queued up for trial roulette and got to run Steps of Faith for literally the second time ever and it was pretty cool :) went smoothly and no one died or left the duty so yeah, i'm grateful for that

hahaha. It reminds be last tuesday i went for Midas fist of son with my FC mate who is a SCH. I was a bard, 1 dragoon and 2 other bards. Faust stage died twice. First time ever to experience death there. I kept everything up (Straight shot, dots etc) but dps was so slow. We went to boss and i start to take notice of the other dpses. Dragoon was fine...... except those 2 other bards. One didnt apply dots after timer finished (Hey you have iron jaw to reset the timer). Other bard..... OMG HE IS NOT USING WANDERER'S MINUET. Manage to complete the dungeon. One of my worst runs in Midas normal. D:

Had a bard acting very strange in Pharos Hard. Okay, I know some bards refuse to use Wanderers' Minuet, though this one was even stranger.
Tank did the first big pull, no need to move around for a bard. He didn't activate Menuet, so mobs are dying slowly, even though I helped DPSing as healer. When there was one mob left, he suddenly turned Minuet on, just to deactivate it again. OK...
I decided to wait until first boss and said nothing.

Finally, tank pulls boss and the bard turned Minuet on again. After 10 seconds, it's gone, just to turn it on again a few seconds later. Note, he did not move a single time, even though he got marked with the orange line.

Okay, I really didn't get it and decided to ask why he is juggling with Menuet. His reply: "I can't spam this attack every time" :confused: I replied: "Wanderer's Minuet isn't an attack"
From this point on, he didn't say a single word until the end. He had his 230 Relic and was a mentor, it was so weird..

I'm surprised they just decided it was impossible. Why not at least try? Heck, there have times I've cleared primal battles and dungeons without even a single tank. And we had a summoner in the group. They could have at least tried using Titan-Egi (something I've done before and worked well instead of a tank).
I've never seen this type of behavior before, where everyone just gives up immediately.

We did manage to complete it on the 3rd try without anyone falling off or dying.

Woah, I was reading it and was like Deja'vu. I was in that party yesterday, and I was piloting my gf's account. (so I was the summoner). In my defence at that time 3 of the members have died (not sure if they suicided after the tank died), I improvised and tried to use titan egi but it was kind of redundant at that point, the Dps wouldn't be enough, even with the help of the titan egi. So I made the call to jump too.

I'm not one to give up quickly either :O, I've stayed through like 10+wipes on bis ex and rav ex in a single run because people were incompetent but I'm cool with that.

Don't worry, I'm not blaming you at all.
I was just surprised that it just ended to quickly. As soon as someone suggested mass suicide everyone started jumping. There was really no time to suggest anything after the 3rd person jumped.

I think Titan-Egi would have been very hard to handle the situation, but I was shocked by the entire situation.
I've never seen anything like it before, and I wonder if I ever will again.

Yes it would have, even if the situation would've been contained the dps would've fell short to the mechanics the minute 3 players(2DPS+1Tank) died/suicided, aside from that phase the remaining phase will be more tedious too. But yeah it happens alot, I did quite a number of pub runs for the bird mount and I've encountered a lot so yeah it happens, can't help it since its a pub run, with little communication and little understanding of each other it will happen.

now after first boss you kill the dragon, then you have 2 platforms you could pull, the 3 people after dreg, and the flying bs on the next platform + the void monk thing.
ive seen and done this pull countless times, its easy as hell tbh and not very heal intensive for all the mobs there.

I had possibly the worst Ravana HM in Trial roulette this evening. Tanks (yes both of them at several points) just standing up front eating everything including all 3 hits of Tapsiya. DPS not even making an effort to move out of things like Prelude to Slaughter or Slaughter, so there were vuln stacks as high as an elephant's eye. Melee kept hitting him even through his directional parry/knockback and couldn't be dissuaded from it. The add phase was ridiculous with people focusing almost exclusively on the boss and barely even giving the adds the time of day. I was surprised when we only had two swords. Add to that the fact that since the tank was getting shoved around by Tapsiya, he kept repositioning the boss. The thing is, he'd choose to face Ravana right at the rest of the party just in time for the next Tapsiya to go off. At one point, I had aggro and had to die for a tank to get it back. The same thing happened to the Astrologian. Finally the DRK fell off and the AST ended up with aggro again, died and it went to me, I died and finally the WAR was able to get it back just in time to wipe.

After we wiped I asked in party why healers were ending up with aggro while tanks were still standing. No answer. Look at the levels on the Warrior... he doesn't even have Provoke. I advised him to level Gladiator to 22 to get it. I tried to tell people where to stand for things like Slaughter but they were just not listening at all and still picking up vuln stacks. I asked the MT to stop moving Ravana around during the add phase and he complained that he was getting pushed around. I gave up trying to give advice and just heal bombed the ever-living shit out of the party throughout the entire fight, but still several people needed to be res'ed. I commended my co-healer and got the hell out of there, surprised that we even cleared. e.e
