I think it was a running joke about the silly faces he was always pulling in the trailers - I can't remember who coined it originally but it was someone here on this site. I guess lacking anything else suitable the name has just stuck for him ever since. :D

It was me and Cedri lol.

And yeah, it was mainly because of the derp faces he made in the FMVs..especially the 3 in 1 emote. lol

He's still loveable tho!

I never really saw him as a "derp"lander.

Especially after watching him fight in the trailer. Guy has some skills with an axe. He was cuttin em up and cuttin em down. I wouldn't call him derplander to his face. lol

Is this statement supposed to explain how he lost his helmet, or explain why he is Derplander?

I'd like to think it's the latter... but it sounds like you are making this in response to the post about losing his weapon and his hat and it comes off a bit ambiguous...

Pfft, I'm calmer than you must have interpreted. It's just kind of a bummer that we can't take our mascot seriously.

And I agree, "I'm going to die" is likely what was going through all of their heads. However, dropping one's relic in that situation doesn't exactly make someone "derpy".
