Interesting. So, would you give those players access to the ARR and HW zones but with no MSQ questline enabled? Start them level 50/60?

Bare with me here, because I think I understand your feelings. It's one thing for some story being locked behind raids. But are you suggesting ppl can't see story cutscenes in game?
That could work, but I don't know if I would go as far as not allowing newer players to not experience something.
That's why I don't like the instant potion thing. They should want newer players to experience the whole game. I just think it shouldn't take as long to experience the big stuff in the older content. You can't develop empathy for a world you can't see or be impacted by.
Like the 1.0 closure. The average person looks at it and sees the bad reviews and horrible performance. But there is something within there that 1.0 get that is magical, and no other player starting later could ever comprehend that.
This honestly comes off as more petty than anything. Much less self-defeating if you want players to get invested into the story, the worst thing you could do is lock them out of it should they later become interested. (Which wouldn't work, they'd just youtube it all.)
They should just merge few quests. You can do that with MANY of them and there're all like "Run there and talk to him, then come back and talk to me" kind of quests.
Tell your story, but it's really annoying. I almost didnt make it through story and was about to quit and can understand new players not going past first 30 free days.
No point to have 3xx quests, can reduce it easy to around 100 without cutting any story/dialoges out of the game.
Nothing. Is there anything stopping you from watching 1.0 cutscenes on YouTube? Different, but slightly related.
The idea is simple, if you want the story, then you have to start at the beginning of the timeline which is 2.0, then complete everything up to SB.
If not, then choose to start at HW or SB. However, the events of HW and/or ARR have already occurred for that character.
Someone brought up Dragon Age earlier.
I could create a character and use the same character from DA to DA2 to DA3. I could not take my DA3 character and use it with DA. The difference here is that I can go and do things that are not based on a timeline out of sequence.
I see the value in both arguments for and against making people complete the MSQ. I think people should be given a choice of what they want.
If they decide later that they want to experience the story first hand, then make a new character. Just like how DA handled it since that was put out as something acceptable.
I agree, but you can't stop someone from going to YouTube and watching them. If someone wants to jump in at SB to avoid the MSQ slog and YouTube it later, I say let them. Only thing I am saying is that by making that choice they should not be able to do the old MSQ on that character only.
