might be worth starting off with Marauder or Arcanist up to level 10 then switching over to Rogue which plays close to monk.

(Sadly you need to be level 10 to start the Rogue quests)

Arcanist and Marauder will put you in the same city as Rogue so you can pick it up as soon as you hit level 10

You'd want ACN or MRD since they both start in Limsa, and you can't get to Limsa until level fifteen in the story, so if you want to do rogue before that at level ten, you'd have to BE in Limsa :)

Personally I like NIN >>>>>>>>>> MNK but yes, it's fast-paced melee attacks. Not as strong as MNK but they offer more utility and faster speed.

My nin is lvl 40 but I like monk better so far (mine is 60). The slashy slashy is kind of annoying but not as annoying as the boing crack brrroing sound the warrior attacks make.

I was finally able to get the DX11 client to run stably after getting rid of some background programs and updating the drivers for the millionth time, and I love how much better the shadows and such look, especially at night. This shot doesn't really show much because of the angle but the camera was being stubborn. But still, it's quasi-catkini so no one's going to complain right?

Or....start in Ul'dah or Gridania, join a Free Company with a house in the Mist, level to 10 in whatever your starting class was (takes perhaps an hour may be a little longer), teleport to your FC house, and walk over to Limsa - you won't get here otherwise until you have an airship ticket. Become a Rogue. Job done. Personally I love the CNJ cross class skills for playing classes, and PUG might work well with Rogue.

That trick works really well with Alts as well, you only need to be in the FC long enough to jump to La Noscea and walk to Limsa. After that the world is your oyster.
