The only thing i like so far is the world design.
Animation and gameplay look awful at this point. I even hate the new archer battle animations. Too stiff... forced.
And please don't tell me you can't lock camera in 2.0
Just... don't.

That's what people originally said about the lack of the current animations in my thread. That there are placeholders, that it's still pre-alpha, etc. Then the confirmation came, that the downgrade was intentional.
How many times it needs to be said that what you see in these videos is not really far from what they intent for the final product to be for you to understand?
Wow, at first I was really only worried about the movement animations, but after watching the live letter, it seems combat animations are even worse. Nothing looks fluid or even proper any more, particularly the 'knock back' animation when getting hit. Also, I'm really not liking the flow and pace of combat at all, being a fan of the slower, deliberate pace of XI and XIV. I was honestly just hoping for XIV's combat with better response times and casting animations, and what we got looks...vastly inferior
I was so hyped for 2.0, but every thing I see (Beyond the world design) is completely turning me off
you know.....if they didnt show us gameplay video's before launch....and the haters were given the game to play before we seen the vids.....you would all probably be raving about how much better it is. Prime example is the grass.
If you want to complain jump to the RNG thread
[SARCASM] b-but its unfinished... Just wait... they don't want your opinion that early... And when the alpha starts, and its still kinda the same game you see on these videos... wait some more... don't complain, its still alpha... They probably won't "polish" such minor issues such as character movement and battle animations... Wait until beta. Where they will really polish the game...
Don't be negative man... just wait... [/SARCASM]
I...I don't understand...the character movements (aside from jump which doesn't even exist in 1.0) are exactly the same as the current animations.
...What exactly are you people complaining about? o.O
(Also, omg pre-equipped gear sets you can tab to different jobs with!)
Seriously, what is different about them? They look exactly the same to me. Down to the last detail, even the female Hyur arm swish. Even the female elezen one knee stuck out in front of their body with their hips tilted to one side idle animation is EXACTLY the same.
In case of troll, 0/10
In case of not troll :
I'm not even being sarcastic here, is there something wrong with your eye-sight? I can't explain it otherwise. Every single person in this forum, no matter what their opinion on the subject is, acknowledge the huge difference between 1.0 and 2.0 movement animations.
There is absolutely no difference except that your character can strafe now. I've watched every single character movement looking for where it's "different" and it's not. It's just...not.
Granted the gathering/crafting animations are different, but only in that your character moves like a normal person would when they're breathing or chucking at a tree with an axe.
(I will say, the strafe animation leaves something to be desired and gets old pretty quick.)
Oh dear god, I just got to the battle animations. -_-;
Okay read the following having in mind that i'm dead serious : There is something wrong with either your eye-sight, or your perception of movement.
To summarise the issue :
-Inertia is completely gone, meaning :
-The way the characters were subject to inertia while stopping / start running / changing direction more than 90 degrees, is completely gone.
Now the characters awkwardly turn around by simply stopping, and they stop by simply... not moving their legs anymore.
-The way the characters used to lean left and right to turn as they run, depending of the angle of the turn is completely gone.
Now the characters are simply locked with the camera, turning around like they float. (what you call strafe) . (this could also be seen in 1.0, but only if you were only using the camera to turn as your character was running, but then again, you could also move properly using either WASD or the left analogue stick)
-They way the characters used to run towards the camera when you wanted to go backwards the way you're facing is now replaced with what seems to be a forced backpedaling.
Using this movement, characters take whole turns looking like they're iceskating.
Not to mention that awkward adjustment of the direction left or right, where the character seems to simply take a step sideways for a second while it runs forward. (i assume that this took the place of the leaning that we have now)
Anyway, all these people observing the changes are not crazy.
Take a look yourself.

I like the new spell casting animations, nice and over the top
but the actual spells themselves are.... blink and you miss it lol
Yes to the inertia part, but did you seriously link to a thread YOU created as proof of what you're saying? Isn't that a little bit confirmation bias/conflict of interest? Also, please do NOT tell me you linked (with no irony whatsoever) to a Rokien thread to prove your point.
In case you're new to the forums, Rokien is a troll, everything he posts he does so in sarcasm or to get a reaction from people.
This is untrue. Rokien just likes to complain about everything he personally sees as inferior design, and uses brash sarcasm as a means of defense. It just so happened that this time he hit the mark with a feature at least 173 people care about, which is a hefty amount for this forum.
Also, hello.
Are you serious? No really. Answer me. It's not a rhetorical question. I really want to know, if there's a person on this planet that doesn't understand the following :
Yes, i did made that thread, that doesn't mean i created all the other accounts that acknowledge the issue in this thread.
Also, that wasn't even the first thread started about the issue. I even included the OP of another thread that was outlining the same exact issue, that i discovered after i made my own thread. (it was kinda vague and buried)
You make me lose faith in humanity. People shouldn't just randomly skip logic for the sake of arguing.
First of all, you need to stop with the whole movement thing, you've taken that subject to the point where people are just sick of talking about it and my entire LS (who happens to barely post on the forums) thinks that you're overdoing this movement subject making it a real joke, and a few actually agree that movement is kind of awkward. Just because you made a topic with 178 likes makes you a righteous person to go out and attack people and say shit like you lost faith in humanity? you know what you should do.
STOP POSTING, PLAY AND ENJOY THE GAME.
you barely touched this game, what make me think you're going touch the next one.
A genuine case of WTF.
So... stop talking about it. I'm not talking to myself you know. I reply to actual people. If the "people" were really sick of talking about it... they wouldn't... (stay with me here...) talk about it.
I talk about this issue in my thread almost exclusively, and i made a few posts here simply to respond and explain the issue to Kiroh.
Oh, many of them think i'm overreacting and a few actually agree with me? Heh, its like we're really in real life, talking about every first world problem... ever! Also, care to explain how exactly i make it a real joke, by... talking about it?
No. Observing people skipping basic logic for the sake of arguing does. Just like you do, right now. My thread or the petition has nothing to do with it.
Hmm, maybe this is not my main character. Hell not even my main account, but a buddy key. This could be a possibility.
Right?
(also i won't reply here, i said what i had to say, if you somehow have something to add, do it in my thread, or the petition thread that is relevant)
You seriously need to educate yourself ...i recommend watching a video about the process of animating a game and the huge amount of stages it has ...the only movement "confirmed" to be taken out was sluggish stop and start running now you are throwing in the pre-alpha fighting your argument is laughable
I'd hardly call the adjustment to stand still sluggish. And you don't have to wait for it to finish to do anything else, it can be transitioned into another movement immediately.
As for 'It's just a pre-alpha', I've never been confident about that as an excuse. I'm sure some things will change at the time of release, but battle animation does not seem like one of those things. Especially when you consider the excuse that they took out the transition animation to 'focus on gameplay'. One might correlate that to keeping other animations mechanical too. I'll keep my eyes open and welcome changes, but I'm not expecting them.
