I have literally never said the opposite have I ?
This may come as a shock to you depending on the crowd you spend most of your time with, but normally people don't get triggered by benign words like pronouns. The gotcha attempts in the past few pages failed to get a reaction out of anyone because people just don't care lol.
It's the same as when flat earthers say incorrect things out loud. You're allowed to be wrong.
it depends on your definition of "attack" if attack means, go on her twitter and harass her, then no ofc not. if "attack" means speak up when i think she says something clearly uniformed and inflammatory. no. i will say something. senna gender politics have NOTHING to do with it. even if SHE tries to make it about that
It's called picking your battles. I could have told you hours ago the conversations you've just had with everyone else.
The topic is beat to death and it's just repeating the same conversations over and over again.
No one will change their mind suddenly after all this time just because you said she's a she.
it is my sincerest hope, that people from ALL sides could agree that this is really bad.... seriously wtaf! she should not be working with s.e is shes gona post this. this is a literal call to arms and incitement of violence. this shirt isnt even street legal, i dont understand why S.E are doing nothing about this.. this is literally grounds for dismissal
i also did not appreciate her blocking me on twitter just for calling out that this was wrong. she posted the tweet publicly. to me it feels like she doesnt see anything wrong with tweets like this
This is gonna be a fun topic...... Oh no
It's easier if you think of it as a prayer circle for the termination of someone who's probably already on their last bridges to burn, though in essence this just means getting mad at social media posts that were already posted in similar (and possibly closed) topics.
Well, Kate is Sena's most ardent champion and likes to jump kneedeep into Twitter culture warring about as much, and YoshiP said not to attack them because "they're doing the best they can." If both the English VA for the face of the expac, and the person both overseeing English localization and acting as a lore consultant get to use their high-profile involvement wirh the game to amass people on Twitter to politically grandstand to, and YoshiP is defending it, that's a very bad sign going forward for the direction of the franchise. Part of what made FFXIV great was the respect for the product everyone had and that it seemed like they wanted to make a game that people would love first and foremost. Kate and Sena seem more interested in using their proximity to the game to clout farm and network. If Squeenix wants to take my concerns about a growing lack of professionalism and how that will impact the game as an attack on them, then that says far more about Squeenix than me. I've just seen things like this happen often among game developers and normally it results in shovelware releases and an arrogant "if no one likes my slop then I'm just misunderstood and they're wrong" attitude towards bad sales.
Oh, did he? That's too bad. Until she stops being a horrible person, she deserves what she gets (minus the usual caveats like threats).
Thats easy cause the internet is much more sensitive, and the political scape called twitter mobs make SE so scared they have to cave in. Honestly its more disgusting when u read the comment section and see ppl agreeing. Its down right gross...oh right there are ppl here on forum defending their action.... nvm carry on.
Requesting the ability to hide threads if troll bait online culture crap is going to be allowed.
i have not seen anything from kate. and i will personally take that as a sign that whatever is happening with her isnt so bad that its getting posted everywhere. but sena has been on many peoples radar ever since she was first chosen. and yes i agree that if any of the devs do not outright say this behaviour is wrong that from S.E this is really a bad sign. but i dont know what conversations SE is having with them behind closed doors. maybe they cant afford to take action at the moment. I personally dont feel comfortable with having somebody like this associated with this game. if i went to work in this Shirt, id be fired. If i went out in this shirt, Id be attacked and arrested.
yoshiP should just remove wuk lamat from the game going forward. nobody liked the character and nobody liked the voice acting, coupled with the behaviour on twitter. id say he has a very easy way out of this entire situation.
Or maybe people need to chill out.
‘Someone posted something controversial on Twitter’
‘Water makes you wet’
‘The sky is blue’
The more i digest and analyze the mess of a msq that is Dawntrail i just cant help but think that a certain localizer and lore consultant had this type of talk with some SE execs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfMsxjWgUbI&t=1520s
Would also explain why it seems that there were a lot of changes and rewrites in the story.
"You don't hate localizers enough, you think you do but you don't"
I knew something was up when they randomly told us during a live letter than Beast Tribes will be called Tribes and later Allied Tribes for no reason, Like oh no, are we being racist by calling the literal Bird people, Fish people, Lizard people, Mole people, Elephant people, Bug people, etc "Beasts" You cant make this shit up, its eerily similar logic as the people who say "Orcs are black people so them being a savage race is racist" because that's a thing for some reason (in fantasy worlds that also already have actual Black people too btw)
I hate that they neutered the threat of beast tribes. They could have done more with them to add some real threat to the world. If they wanted small groups of beastmen or non beastmen to have quests, they could have called them allied hamlets or something and kept the beast tribes a looming danger in the world. That way they could have also brought back hamlet defense, which was a great piece of 1.0 content they abandoned. So a more dangerous overworld with great side quest and story potential and a new piece of content for us to enjoy all without effecting the tribes quests. Would have been 2 birds with 1 stone.
Voice actors are held to impossible standards. Everyone pressures them to behave a certain way and don't allow them to just be regular people - with their own points of view and own issues.
Of course, there are certain topics they should be careful about discussing publicly just in the interest of their careers... but - above all - they're just human beings.
People are overly cruel online because they get to hide behind a screen.
That's easy; I don't really care about the voice actors in the sense that I'm familiar with them or intimate with them. What they all do in their own time is their own business, but when they start making it MY business, that's when they're open for criticism. All I, as a FFXIV player, want from the actors is to do a good job and throw all of their heart into their lines. Wuk Lamat's writing was poor and the voice-acting did not improve the character on the English side. So my beef remains with the character design and the first failure I've seen in FF history to make a story that feels like it came from the Final Fantasy genre; even the tactics games or even short storylines in the online game itself have better plot and character development. The PCT quest-chain alone felt better and felt natural. I have nothing against the VA or folks that enjoy the VA, but my experience in Dawntrail thus far has been "Don't you dare say a single critical thing against Wuk Lamat or you're a bad person". I can shake that off, but it's bred quite the unnecessary schism that likens to a Taylor Swift dynamic and does nothing to improve the game, players' experience, or encourage others to join in. The VA is a separate matter and whatever he/she/whatever decides to refer to oneself is ultimately up to them, but I am not bound to compliance in that regard.
The fact remains that the VA is allegedly gaslighting people on social media and has a confidante in the lore sector (leaving it unnamed; if you know, you know) that is gradually filtering out FF core building standards and replacing them with 'modern accommodating protocols' that are 'politically correct' for 'modern audiences', and the VA is a below-average performer in general. My standing ovation goes out to the JP and GER VAs, and I will never clap my hands for the VA for or the character known as 'Wuk Lamat' on the principle of act, the art of performance, and the standard of professionalism. This is a new low for FF14's team, but seems to be a growing theme with Square Enix in general. We shall see how things go, moving forward either with or without the game.
You know...i will never stop speaking out against this VA, who calls everyone racist if you dont like a special song or demands people to step down if youre not trans yourself. Is Wuk Lamat trans ingame? Is Bryer Latino? Why didnt she step down. But yeah...after a forum ban for 2 weeks i had enough, my sub runs out on 30 October, and after almost 10 years...i quit for good.
There's a difference between being frustrated, having opinions AND instigating, actively trying to start controversies, Sena crossed that line on a few of her tweets and got what she should have expected for making those targeted tweets
Everything is fine now though cuz she stopped doing that, YoshiP's reaction to this is fashionably late
I would agree with this if it wasn't for the fact that recently, voice actors have rapidly become more unhinged and questionable over these past few odd years.
Take ProZD for example. ProZD holds the stance that fictional characters can only be voiced by people that reflect the same race/skin color as the Voice Actor. Most normal people do not care about asinine details like that, the only thing that really matters is if the quality of the Voice Acting good. That's it. Should all the Miqo'te's in XIV now only be voiced by real life cat people with ears and a tail? Should all the Hrothgar's be voiced by actual real life beast-men/beast-women? Should all elves in video games only be voiced by elves? Should Demons now only be voiced by actual Demons? Should Donald Duck only be voiced by a real life duck? Its so silly. So silly in fact that he started complaining that he was losing casting positions. How about we don't limit people on opportunities on the basis of the color of their skin or their race?
Then you also have some of the VA's who did work for miHoYo who are complaining about the new region characters not being dark skinned in the new Genshin Impact zone and asking and advocating for people to boycott/stop spending money on the game. Yeah I don't think telling your fans or the player base to stop spending money on a game that you did voice acting for is going to sit well with the company you worked with. Which thankfully it didn't and those VA's were let go and recasted by miHoYo.
Oh and lets also not forget how the original VA for Bayonetta (Hellena Taylor) wanted far more than was offered by Platinum Games when Bayo3 was coming around the corner. She tried really hard to spin a narrative saying that she was being offered only $4,000.00 to reprise the role, when in reality she was initially offered $15,000.00. While I do agree that she should have been payed more, the fact of the matter is she was purposefully omitting information that was very critical to the situation. And her stating that she was only being paid $4,000.00 in that initial video she posted didn't do her any favors and only muddied the conversation and made supporting her hard for not being forthcoming.
And now we have Sena who I'm not going to reiterate because I think everyone here has seen the things she has said and posted by now.
The lack of action on SE's part has been puzzling. If I were SE's PR department I'd be doing everything I can to create distance between the company and Sena, something like releasing a statement that says: "in light of recent events SE has decided to no longer endorse the services of Sena Bryer in future FF projects, patches/expacs. SE is an equal opportunity employer, etc. and does not condone hate speech, discrimination, calls to violence, etc. etc." SE's relative silence on this is very odd to say the least.
The problem with that is if they speak out against Sena, then it'll cause a big media uproar. Twitter, Reddit, and all the gaming "journalism" sites will go wild calling SE transphobic for daring to dish out consequences for someone's actions.
That's the shield Sena has and they're fully aware of it.
The only silver lining is Wuk Lamat is very isolated to the Dawntrail storyline and Tural. I don't see her lasting beyond the 7.X patch series (or becoming a Scion - please god, no) so I expect she will be left in the dust when they pivot to 8.0 and will never be heard of again like Lyse. They kind of have to wait it out with her.
