6.2 Hrothgar Update

Maybe that's because... Y'know... There's NOT AS MANY OPTIONS. It's exactly why there's work to be done on hrothgar and why people are wanting a degree of transparency. As someone who always has been, and always will be a Hrothgar. It sucks seeing that people feel this way about hrothgar. But we don't all Look the same because we want to. When you only have 8 options which is locked to 2 per face, It's kinda hard to not look similar to someone else.


I wouldn't know though. You seem to have the idea that we want him to drop everything when we don't. We just want a modicum of respect and not a bunch of recycled bullcrap. You wouldn't be happy if you played a race that hadn't been updated for 3 years, left with muted, terrible textures. Constantly touted to be unique but shares models with Roegadyn to the point where we don't even have our own Hempen under-gear.

How hard is it to design something that fits uniquely onto a race?

People wonder why some hrothgar players mod when they're given sub-par excuses?

Even then, they didn't even give us new hairstyles, they just made duplicates of the heads for each hairstyle rather than just... Y'know... Making the hairstyle interchangable... Oh and they also flattened one of our heads for the hairstyles too. Instead of doing what they'd do for every other race like making holes in the hair for viera ears or adding in a mesh for Miqo'te ears. Instead they just whacked in Kimahri's forehead with a hammer and called it a day...

All whilst you can STILL SEE holes in hrothgar hair at the right angles.

Saw some guys claiming the 800 glam slots meant hrothgar and viera would get hats and yknow thats FAR too much hope.

"They said hrothgar and viera wouldnt get hats" Well a) the design team disagreed enough to give us glasses/circlets so its clear they disagree enough to push back against Yoships unbelievably stupid plan of releasing two races that cant use a gear slot and b) we all know if they did things RIGHT and released one race that race would have hat access, "unique head shape" be damned.

Theres 0 excuse to patch after patch not give us hats when unpaid college kids have every hat working WITH ear holes for viera, theres just not.

If you can put Sims 5 Island Adventure in the game you can make gear fit every player race and not punish people for daring to not play reused ff11 assets.

If Viera get a hair update in 6.2 (they will) hrothgar need to raise a fuss. We didnt get anything for 6.0, and everyone thought 6.1 was April Fools. 6.2 has to be better, we waited 3 years.

the fact that they dont make headgear on something that costs ACTUAL MONEY work on Hrothgar/Viera is downright unacceptable, and it is precisely why i dont buy anything from the cash shop anymore.

It's true that the Magnus face is by far the most popular one, but I've seen quite a bit of the Runar face too. (The Kimahri face is basically non existant.) I don't think Hrothgar are that much worse than other races in that department (femroe only ever use one face after all. Even NPCs). Locked hairstyles makes it more noticeable though.

I see a Good number of Khimari face in my Server, its the Courel Face thats super rare for me.

Honestly I like the hair, even the overall head and shape...just the Whiskers are what I find difficult.
Ive seen some good twitter Gposes with it and even Rostik & Bajsaljen looks good, but its just not MY style. And its not surprising it doesn't resonate with many others.

That requires a Fantasia to change your face to try the handful of hairstyles available on that face.

Cats with meat whiskers and spikes for eyebrows have very niche aesthetic appeal. Khimari after being abused by Mario Party's Face Lift too.

That's why the majority of Hrothgar use the same two faces.

I play hrothgar because I enjoy being a big lion man. It's not our fault that the Devs only managed to make one or two good faces for a race. The Kimahri face got bonked with a hammer to fit in the 'new' garbage hairstyles and the Coeurl face is underutilized because it's a niche aesthetic.

That and y'know, the base hairstyles being a Manbun and a discount Mullet... It's not exactly what one thinks when they think 'Lion Man'.

And the whole 'people use the same face anyway'...

You see that on almost EVERY race. Just like how many people use the same voice. Or the same hairstyle. Wear similar glams and enjoy similar weapons.

People who have similar interests tend to represent themselves in similar ways. It's not a sign of unoriginality.

In fact, It should serve to show how poorly done hrothgar assets are.
Almost every Viera hairstyle is used.. But a majority of hrothgar use the Magnus face or the Runar face. Usually with the same hairstyles on both. Unlike every other race, we have the most limited customization options when we're locked into hairstyles from the faces that we chose.

And also the hairs tied to the faces. The two faces every Hrothgar uses have the best hair choices. If the hair was not attached to the faces you choose, you'd see a lot more of the other kinds of faces.

I'm just waiting on female hrothy coming next expansion! Been wanting them since hrothgar race was announced and was gutted they were male only. Hopefully after the debacle with the males they will design the females to avoid these issues.

So, are there actual functional samples people have tried to pass along to guide the devs along? It looks like they tried to squeeze something in and it didn't really work out, so they just might be less inclined to try any further without something that the players have actually gotten behind. They're probably not going to fill time on a LL for it.

Of course modders can get it done faster. They don't have the constant workload of working on all manner of models for the game, including those mounts that have to interact with those bulky catboys.

The consensus is something like "take the most popular Hrothgar hairstyles mods: this is what we want". Unlocking all racial hairstyles for each face is a very popular proposition too. We had multiple threads on the subject at the time until they all got drowned by hotter controversies.
Unfortunately it's hard to know if they received the feedback since they just have no interest in communicating properly whenever Hrothgar are involved. The fact that they acted surprised we wouldn't want earless Karen and 2B hairstyles in the first place doesn't inspire confidence.

Exactly.
In fact I'm fairly certain they only introduced those to encourage us to get used to the idea of just removing ears in general. "Look, it's so haaarrrd to do this so if you actually -do- want more hair we're just... gonna cut them off for all hrothgar. it's only fair for us devs. please look forward to being deaf."

I think its mostly because the 1st 2 faces look like normal Lions. One a Fierce Lion, the other a Soft Lion.
The Coreul face isnt bad looking, but its not gonna have wide appeal, even without the whiskers the head is kinda...small I guess.
Then the Khimari face isn't bad, but not everyone wants to look like Khimari as a Beast race.

I actually would make a female character to get stuffed prepped for femgar (like garo gear) but sadly all the women in this game have the exact same body (besides lala) and are just boring to look at for me like even oiriginal npcs look like nothing to me theres 0 flavor.

Yknow I really hoped femgar would drop this expansion because they plopped male viera and 1 race needing two expansions to get its opposite sex is laughable but I guess thats the effort and care I should expect by now.

i'm hoping the hat issue for new content is a result of the fact they're still working on a new gender and that once that is complete we can get some more developer attention not only to hairstyles but to hats as well.

It's pretty frustrating given some hats will work on Viera at least (can't speak for Hrothgar) but not others. One can hope they will address the issue of Hrothgar hair at the live letter in August although personally I've hoped for that many a time with nothing for Viera.

I suspect the female Hroths are a 7.0 addition given we haven't heard anything new although I'd loved to be surprised.

Remember before the Shadowbringers benchmark, when Yoshida promised that Hroths and Viera would have far more customization than the original races? When that proved not to be the case, the story became that Vieras and Hroths would receive more exclusive "racial" hairstyles, and hats and hairstyles going forward would be made with all the races in mind. Instead, here we are. Hroth and Viera players have been missing holiday wear and more--like Hroth's ears in the latest April Fool's joke, that wasn't really.

Aside from Hroth ears being cut off with those "new" adapted hairstyles, on my bun at least a few of them have a ridiculously high forehead, and hairlines that float out in space, unattached to their neck.

Keep in mind, this is the game that the fanbase fawns over as so much more ~transparent~ and ~caring~ than those other MMOs. But as OP said, it's been years--most of which involved no updates, excuses at the most, and letting Hroth players find out the hard way for too long that they can't use Jandelaine, they had to spend real money on a Fantasia for a haircut. They didn't even warn you of the incompatibility of some Mogstation items for the longest time, like the Eternal Bonding hairstyle. It boggles me this billion dollar small indie company can't do better than that, especially when the Hrothgar and Viera were one of the major selling points in advertisements of Shadowbringers.

But they really just don't seem to be trying at all.

Maybe we'll get Yoshida's classic crocodile tears again this update? I've really come to expect no more than that.

I remember when he asked players to remember theres real people working on the game and to be nicer but then in one pll he gets a question about more hrothgar lady news and he LAUGHS at it then 6.1 comes and he and the coanchor are in hysterics over hrothgar hair.
But the paying customer who gets treated like a joke every single patch and pll has to be considerate. Sure wish some preachers listened to their sermons!

Yoshida's hypocrisy lost me years ago. Remember the ToS, how you don't abuse your fellow players? Yoshida bodyshamed a cosplayer live onstage at Fanfest 2014. The cosplayer wanted to give him one of the weapon props they had made. Yoshida's response? "Real ninjas should diet/work out more" and laughter.

Imagine doing that to someone who loved your game, in front of thousands of people-- especially as a game director with a far greater presence. When the cosplayer placed third, a lot of players called it a "pity win" and got angry a ~real~ cosplayer didn't get the prize.

No one deserved that kind of treatment, and afaik there was never an apology. Not even the waterworks.

Par the course, I guess! Maybe we'll get better hairstyles attached to an NFT purchase. :rolleyes:

All I know is Square is helping wreck the environment for a fast buck, just like Shinra. I know people will argue that Yoshida will never let NFTs in FFXIV, but let's look at his track record.

Housing was never going to have a demo timer so players could actually take those breaks he encourages--he outright said demo timers were used by games to keep players subbed.

Hrothgar and Viera were supposed to have waaaay more options than the other races. stares at my third of four or five faces

Hairstyles and hats.

More inventory space that doesn't require a monthly rental.

Yyyyeah, FFXIV is gonna get NFTS, lmao. Even moreso if the rest of the board wants it.

They'll probably reveal a mogstation item with a hrothgar in the back unable to wear the hair/hat that comes with it and that's it.
