Months of harassment

I will say getting rid of NN would barely be an inconvenience for new players. Since from my experience most new players have to be told about NN in the first place.

It will impact mentors and alts that use it as a general chat. That is why I say make it so NN is a general chat anyone can join remove the crowns and if people want to join they join. If they do not want to deal with bots or RMT either black list, run a script that auto Blocks players and phrases with certain words or do not join at all.

No need to have this self policed chat by the players. The frequency at which people get help probably would roughly be about the same since between the shitposting questions are answered. Even though most NN questions can be answered via google you lazy peons! :P

Though I have ran into this person he is not so bad. It is a person online try not to get outraged by what people say online. If I got pissed each time someone made an autism joke online I would have lost it by now.

In short yes they use slurs and like target people that represent a certain indienty and they feed into the feedback they get. People need to learn to accept what they are and not let me the views of others have a negative impact on their life. Trust me I get how cruel the world and people can be but only control we have is over our own actions and how we perceive what others say. No matter what people say we cannot control what others think or say but we can control the impact they have on us generally.

I have heard a lot of I insults and I have come to terms with the fact some people will not accept me or view what I am as a joke. That is on them.

In short do not let shitty people on the Internet or even in person dictate your own self worth and impact your life negativity in aspects you can control.

Sure if it happens at work or prevents you from getting job or apartment that is diffrent but in this moment we are talking about a video game, and you have control over that.

I didn't even know it existed until like a month ago.. and I started in June.

You used to be invited to it automatically but this invited bots, so now mentors are asked to do a player search of sprouts and invite them all to it, obviously skipping bots. How much this happens varies on each world, but people get in still if they take 2 months away and become a Returner.

One of the best solutions for dealing with troublesome players that I have ever encountered. Was in the old Neverwinters nights game, the server conole had 3 ban options player, IP, and cd-key. Server admins could ban not just your characters or Ip but ban your copy of the game from joining. Maybe its time SE and other companies running MMO put this idea to work, put a encrypted CD-key that the user cant see in the files. When they log on to the server the game attaches the key to whatever account their on and sends the key to the server. If someone gets outline SE can ban the account and their copy of the game. Thus forcing said troublesome player to buy a new copy of the game and install it as well since their old copy wont work. This option though would be for serious offenders players who dont get a clue after thier first one or two bans like the current culprit.

I started a couple years back but I never heard about it until like a good year after that. Maybe it was written somewhere in some quests or I don't know and I didn't pay attention. Overall I've been doing fine without it.

I think NN harms more than it helps. For that matter, players could also use google if they have any questions - it's what I did. In it's current state NN is better off gone, and frankly so is the mentor system - in my opinion - ! It would solve many problems, including this one.

I will never understand how some people can get away with behaviour like this but others get a warning for using a word taken out of context. They need to remove NN and no one would miss it. At this point there's enough resources on various platforms to get people started. Therefore it bears little to no significance on this game, apart from Mentors wanting to feel validated by newer players.

As with anything, you need to have evidence or proof. You can make a case for about anything but you ought to have clear proof that this player exists and that they have wrongly conducted themselves this way. If you have such proof, submit it to a GM and if they decide to take no further action, make it a public issue and they will be forced to take a look at it. Often times that will pressure them enough.

I'd also like to add that if this person went under the radar for so long, it might be because the GM's either don't care or are corrupt. SE is very strict about enforcing their ToS most of the time so this is very suspicious behaviour if it went on for so long as it did.

WELP. This is the SECOND time he has directed his harassment/assault towards me personally, vs a generalized audience. This has gone way out of hand, and NEEDS to be dealt with. People get permabans for offenses far less extreme than this, and yet this person is STILL harassing myself and many others on Aether, for MONTHS. There has to be a permanent solution for this. It is affecting my gameplay, everyone else's gameplay (whether they want to admit it does or not), and potentially leaving a bad taste in new players' mouths' that are coming into the game, only to see extreme behavior like this. I blocked out the offenders name and friends' names, but did not block my name, because it's not revealing another player's name. The lack of action being taken is inappropriate, especially for a company as massive as Square Enix.

Then I suggest actually bothering to read the thread you're commenting on. As over a dozen people have clearly stated, he's avoiding bans by making new trial accounts over and over with a VPN to get around IP bans.

I almost cringed into another dimension looking at that image. Gross on so many levels. Personally, hope it gets reported and just gets outright escalates to losing his service account with any other service accounts attached to the same IP getting banned.

Considering how long this garbage has been going on, the only way I see SE actually cracking down is if this blew up on social media. That tends to light a nice, blazing inferno under a companies' butt. Unfortunate, but that's reality for you. >_>

Which is why I'm of the mind that the free trial was a terrible idea. Free weekend? Sure. Free up to a certain level? Terrible idea.

This guy just spammed the Novice Network on Gilgamesh with a wall of all caps slurs and profanity. I'm assuming I can't name and shame him but I'm certain it's the same person you all are talking about.

Do the mentors not just instaban people from the novice network?

1. He has /leavenovicenetwork built into his spam macro and you can't kick somebody if they're not in NN anymore.

2. He has several accounts to spam on even if you somehow manage to kick him before he leaves.

I can honestly say I have not once been in a NN where I gained any sort of valuable information or if on the very slightest of chances I did it was immediately followed up by another mentor offering "their suggestion" and the two mentors are back at it like chihuahuas.

I've rarely ever come across something like that. If anything, I jump in and tell them to stop their crap, because there are players asking questions that may go unanswered because of them acting a mess.

Much as it stinks, I think the one real way to handle this situation properly is to prevent free trials from using the novice network.

At MINIMUM, it would then require he spend $20 per time he's doing this, which'll eventually dry him out of money. As a bonus, it'll allow deter (some of) the rmt bots, who get invited to NN to spam in NN with their website until kicked.

Downside is newbies get screwed, but hey, Square's done it before instead of fixing the hack in PvP, so...

I'm inclined to believe that the people doing this sort of thing with such commitment don't view money as an obstacle, though.

Imagine how bad someone has it at real life to drive them to do shit like this. For me that would be funny and perfectly normal to see for once or twice in online but spamming that for months? What a sad life.

Still i would not remove NN nor change the way it works. The good outweighs the bad, in most cases

that dudes life must suck.

Honestly the only change I'd make is that people who were kicked from NN by GMs should be banned from rejoining it. 30 days to start for first offense, 60 days for the next, third and last offense bans the offender from NN entirely.

Getting kicked by a GM is rough especially in this cause since the person keeps leaving NN and probably just creates new account. So will not solve anything. Granted I guess that would be a nice feature to have in other cases though.

Granted it is starting to bleed into other servers, I hope SE does something about this soon cause it is starting to get annoying and I have a high threshold as to what I find annoying.

This person has now resorted to sending me personal tells to directly harass me.

How sad.

Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. Hopefully someone at SE sees this. I'm all for keeping up the pressure even though it hasn't affected me. No one should have to put up with this crap.

Meh maybe I am just a cold person but I do wish this was localized on one server instead of our entire DC. It is what it is, hopefully SE does something about it.

How many times does it need repeating in this thread that blacklisting and reporting does NOT work because the person comes back with different free trial sprout accounts? Blacklisting does nothing to combat that. Reports only affect the one account in question. We can't even kick the person from novice network when it happens because they have the leave command at the end of their spam macro. And as much as we'd all love to ignore it like the mature adults we are, there are many people in novice network who are still getting exposed to it for the first time and react accordingly to the walls and walls of racial, homophobic, and transphobic slurs suddenly on their screen. Many of us who know it's been happening ignore it and try to tell others to, but it's hard when there are also people who have no clue why their chat just got filled with hate speech. Also, it probably spread to other servers in the DC because the guy realized he's been able to get away with it for so long without consequence! :)

I mean the comments are aimed towards the OP, so my guess is the OP has ignored them and this person also knows that it does bother the OP as for the thread and the updates so it fuels them. Thankfully they only happen in short bursts. Though in the end given how they are doing this I am not even sure how SE will go about combating this without throwing genuine players under the bus.

It works to blacklist them on a personal level, even if it must be several times a day. I'm not saying this is the best solution. If fact, making a forum about it is the right thing to do.

I'm saying don't let them win by letting them torment you about this.

If you've done all you can, let SE know and posted a forum psa, then you should focus on educating the NN on how to respond in a way that won't get THEM banned.

Tolerance and pity are faster methods of fighting this than going to war with someone looking for a fight.

SE should, and hopefully will handle this eventually. Until then warn and guide your community.
