^Can you edit that into something halfway resembling English?
Aymeric would be a transguy actually, given everyone uses male pronouns for him.
I know I'm just piling fuel on this trainwreck here but, everyone's acting like an LGBT+ new npc would be unveiled with "HOLY SHIT!! LOOK AT THIS SUPER GAY NPC!!! We're so progressive u gaiz" but it's still entirely possible that, say, Hien will be gay (that's a bad example, since a lot of the promo stuff has been hinting him and Yugiri have a thing, but you know). Maybe Yotsuyu is a transwoman. Hell maybe Xenos is gay. FF14 has its problems but its inclusion of LBGT+ stuff naturally within the gameworld isn't one of them.
Also, it doesn't count as bi representation if all your bi characters are in straight relationships and never mention being with someone of the same gender. Where there's room to presume, most will presume "default" (straight/cis), and that's not representation at all.
I mean, if they make a well written character that just happens to be gay, lesbian or bisexual? Great. As a bisexual guy myself, though, I loathe the idea of diversity for the sake of diversity. A lot of recent games have fallen into the trap of making some very stereotypical LGBT characters. There's also not a small number of people getting a bit tired of them being written in such a way as to force biased political issues down people's throats.
The only qualifier I'd add is that I would like to see a fairly masculine pairing, like the two guys you meet in Bronze Lake. Not the usual fabulous, super-camp, boring gay stereotype the media pushes, which I find does more harm than good, other than in the minds of people who have a crusade to wage against "gender norms" etc.
Oh boy...
To conclude this thread we're actually around year 1600 in eorzea so we got still 400 year before the wave of gender issue. Give it some rest and come back around patch 42.0
Sure, create an LGBT character. I can see a lot of creative ways to explore gender. You can straight out make a character LGBT... or you can create a race of all males that copulate with one another... or females... or you can create a race that start off as males and then evolve into females as they age... or vice versa... or you can create an androgynous race that "choose" to be male or female once they reach maturity. In a game like this, you can do anything.
For all the people who are clinging to some sort of set of morals, religious or otherwise, I think you need to reevaluate the game you're playing. I know a lot of religious people who won't touch a game or even watch a movie because there's "magic" in it. Just playing this game is sacrilege.
I can't believe people take so much time arguing about this stuff. I. Don't. Care. We can be exploring space right now but instead people want to spend hours, weeks, months, years arguing about what bathroom people use. Dig a hole here... You guys pee here. Dig a hole here... You gals pee here... I. Don't. Care.
I understand this is a troll thread but...
"I'm okay with having gay characters in the game as long as I don't have to actually see them" - most of you all in this thread.
Surprisingly, writing and including an LGBT character is... -gasp- not that hard at all.
This thread needs to go.
It is just okay to create these characters as long as there's no agenda behind it to highlight some minorities who think they aren't mentioned enough. Imagine the following claims with more of the nonsense-topics like veganism / cruelty against sheeps you slaughter on your way from level 1 to 3.
Rectification, we don't want a gay character in the story for the sake of having a gay character in the story. If people want to fantasm over gay people there's plenty of fanart and fanfiction where you can make characters as gay as you want. But adding a gay character in the story with no reason would only harm the LGBT community more as it will probably be a big cliché for people to know at the first look "this one, he's gay.".
The matter here is that people want a gay character because they feel like they deserve it but nobody deserve anything, deep inside they just wan't a gay character gay af so that they can fantasm on it.
There have been homophobic comments in this thread, but a couple people have been stretching themselves thin to silence any who disagree by labeling them "homophobe" as well.
I'm bloody gay and I think this thread is DISGRACE specially to the gay community in-game.
To me it's insulting to allow the OP to get a way with it.
Yeah the OP clearly wanted to stir up civil unrest by using the problems that the LGBTQ community faces today. However, if Square-Enix deletes the thread, they're going to be labeled as homophobic because the outer world has no idea who Skyrior is. Media companies will take it and run with news lines such as "Square-Enix silencing the LGBTQ community".
If you want the thread to disappear, stop posting in it.
Went a bit too far with this one, Skyrior ;T
It's sad to see just how many people are willing to spout homo/transphobic stuff without stopping to think twice. Can we just get the thread deleted now?
glad (not really, quite disappointed actually) to see the typical vile homophobic attitude of the internet is not lost on these forums
Remember kids, disagreeing = being homo/transphobic.
And then the LGBT community wonders where the negative sentiment against them comes from.
There´s only so many "xxist" and "xxphobic" words (and related tantrums/accusations) one is willing to take before eyerolling even at the simple mention of any pertaining acronym.
Actually I almost have to agree with Saga. There's no point in adding an LGBT character just to have one. If one is included I'd rather it not be a huge deal™. Let Y'shtola kiss her girlfriend/partner and then have said partner be integral to the story. Otherwise, all you've done is say "Y''shtola has a partner. That's all there is to this character." And people who think that shouldn't be labeled as homophobic or transphobic just because they have that opinion.
Edited for privacy reasons.
Whoever needed to read it has already done so.
Not getting into the gender debate and people's personal preferences but what would having a character who is defined in this way have any impact on the story?
In my eyes. The story and it's characters are defined and played out by its creators. I don't think that outside influences should affect the stories direction or its characters no matter what the community may want. Purely from a story standpoint, it's up to Yoshi.
This topic may not be a proper place for the forums in that it generates controversy
The hilarity of the sentiment you just tried to push out and then telling him he's "barely bi" and then calling him an uncle tom.
Girl, sit down. You're being thrice as ignorant by preaching that kind of rubbish.
His concerns shouldn't be dismissed or eradicated because he prefers women.
The who suffered more game is tiresome.
Haurchefaunt is definitively bisexual. Aymeric is probably bisexual. We've only had men flirt with us in the story. Lesbians have had no equivalent. Straight guys have had no equivalent.
Neither have complained about that fact.
I was commenting on the fact that he was talking how about he had no issues with his sexuality, when he said he's primarily into girls. He's not going to face the issues that many LGBT people face. I'm not someone who gets involved in the oppression olympics. I'm just stating reality.
Mate, you were moping around claiming people were being homo/transphobic and acting like being LGBT was the harshest thing in the world.
I have my own set of difficulties that i will not parade because we all have our own crosses so do not assume that i have not been there and done that in a comparable level to those people you refer to.
The bottom line is, do not get your panties in a bunch and begin flingin xxxist and xxphobic when people disagree with you or your views (and while you are at it, stop assuming things)
It´s sad.
Congratulations, Skyrior.
If you consider a reply moping around, OK honey. I have interests, a life, hobbies. I don't complain about LGBT issues all day long.
And I don't call everyone who disagrees with me homophobic. I call them homophobic when they act homophobic. You can be homophobic without actually hating LGBT people. That's what most don't realize.
