Yeah the reason is because we dont care about 16 year old technologies, we have the 2011 technology and its better than the 16 year old technologies.
Wave race looks horrible, wow looks horrible even in "water".
Your point and thread still fails.

Meleena what is your age?
I am older than you.
Ok then let me respond to your prior post where you said, "we dont care about 16 year old technologies, we have the 2011 technology and its better than the 16 year old technologies."
Wave Race 64 has a graphical technology that makes the surface of a body of water reflect the environment around it. Am I correct in assessing your statement as meaning that removing that technology in 2011 makes water look better?
EDIT:::
Hmm... Let me make this easier for you.

Does the water look better in image #5, or Image #8?
It looks better in the last image.
OK, does the water in the last image look better than all the rest?
Yes far better.
Would you please explain what makes the water in the last picture look better than the others? The only reason I ask is because I truly believe you're just trolling; but am giving you the benefit of the doubt, so I'd like to hear your honest opinion as to what about the water in the last pic looks better than the rest.
Yeah, it looks realistic.Quote:

No I am not.Quote:

Why would you say something like that?
Ok, so you dig realistic looking graphics! Great - we both have the same taste! What about the last image, in your mind, makes it look more realistic than the others?
Yes thats the way it is.Quote:

Because they need to set a level of what a pc can run at high setting if that have that then you would need a better pc that i'm sure you don't have good enough pc to run it or the money for it. Wait 3-5years if it still the same then bitch about it too then it's the best looking mmo out there this is not a offline game where they can add all the stuff that there is out there.
So, Zenaku. You agree with SE's decision to put a very resource-demanding technology - ambient occlusion - into the game for people with High-end PCs, yes?

What is this i don't even?
I believe to have already explained to you that Ambient Occlusion didn't require pretty much any resource in SE's side to activate. Unlike the effects you're advocating it's a single engine toggle. It's of so simple implementation that your latest video cards can actually force it on even when the game doesn't natively support it.
Honestly I think the game looks great, there are small graphic details that could definitely have been better, but if I'm after nothing more than eye candy? I'll go pick up Crysis 2.
I can understand suggesting to SE for graphical improvements with later, much later updates as they definitely do not take priority over any of the other much needed changes / additions / improvements. But whining about it? Really? Have you guys SEEN other MMOs? Most of them look horrid by comparison.
And yes, I am running the game at max settings... I have not looked at it on lower settings, but if your complaint is due to your PC being unable to run it at max... That isn't SE's fault, the eye candy is there for people with the rig to handle it.
lol you like that set match statement but its still not true. you hang out haning on to your opinion instead of helping the game develop in some easy to fix manners that shouldn't even be problems. How did you talk about whole character you just showed 2 screenshots. the other things you talk about are also problems. However what you see as petty is not my concern nor is your opinion of what I feel are problems a concern to me. Please stop calling me you people also lol. Also in a few words I dont give two s***** what you want them to fix first I just want to play a game that hasn't got such obvious graphical problems. They could have a real character model standing under a roof getting rained on and itll kill the immersion just as bad as red agro dots, etc.
I just want to say the word lackluster if no one has yet.
To all those who think FFXIV's graphics are on par with TERA online ... you must be smoking some good stuff while playing FFXIV.... TERA's graphics are gorgeous... and while FFXIV could be just as pretty or even better, well currently they are not. It lacks the level of detail TERA has and which bring the whole world to life and make you say wow! FFXIV feels so like it was made in less then a yr period.... which makes one asks the question... wtf happened during these 5 yrs??!
the Rapture tech demo is not pre-rendered. It's a in Engine cut scene. Just like FFXIV's story cut scene when you start the game. The purpose of the tech demo was to showcase the future SE mmo and it's capabilities. Showing a pre-rendered demo goes against that and back then they could make much better pre-rendered video that was you saw.
This thread is full of hungry trolls, be careful.
A troll is someone who tells you that a game with a 49% meta score is actually a really good game and doesn't need to be changed.
This is very true. I am trying to point out a few issues that validate this thread and all we get in return is ppls opinion that its not so bad. I see ppl worried about in game immersion so much on here in the jumping and aggro icon thread. I feel some of these easy to fix issues also take away from the immersion.
BORING...............
I've been playing XI since 2004, and all the things that annoyed me about XI's graphics have been carried over to XIV (except one, self-shadowing):
Lighting/Shadows:
-Environment doesn't cast shadows. This such an obvious thing that I can only assume it is an artistic choice.
-Only one lightsource produces shadows
Physics/Water:
-When it rains, nothing looks wet
-Walls, floors, characters, etc. are not solid: Weapons and character appendages can be seen moving freely through the ground, or other characters. Hair on characters slides right inside shoulders, etc.
-weightlessness: characters float in midair when stopping on uneven surfaces, characters running along above ceilings in caves, and rubberbanding through midair when getting knocked back
Additionally, even though XIV's character animations are nice compared to XI's, There's no variation to account for the environment, such as standing on sloped ground or near obstacles. Transitions between the recorded (motion captured?) animations are glitchy.
To be fair, most of the above complaints are basically impossible to fix without adding 10X more processing power than what's available even at the top of the line at the moment. The problem is, if you go by XI's track record, Square will not make any significant upgrades to the engine.
It would be nice to imagine that they will add DX11 (or beyond) features to the engine years from now, but it's been about 10 years since they finished development on XI's engine, and so far all they added was a windowed mode, even though the game runs increasingly poorly as new graphics cards/drivers/operating systems are released.
It is my opinion that maxing out polygons should not be a priority when trying to attain realistic looking graphics. Proper shading and lighting will drassssssstically improve the realism of the game, regardless of how many polygons are used.
Perfect games will never exist, but I'd rather have a game that compromise a little on graphics and creates a world that I can actually interact with rather than just a blue screen that goes on in the background as I run past.

The graphics are amazing, if you say other wise then you are in denial. The only problem we have is copy paste. Give this game until 2012 and it will be playable yet bearable.
lol I can do it too...
You are in denial.
Because the Crystal Tools engine doesn't have game world streaming technology, it has to load in the zones all at once, this limits their ability to create truly seamless zones. Limsa Lominsa isn't really an island surrounded by water, it's an island surrounded by a flat panel representing water.
That true gifthorse... FFXIV isn't a seamless world. The engine isn't sophisticated enough to perform such tasks.
They really should have just used a different engine.
How does this game not have amazing graphics? Even on extremely low settings this game looks much better than the majority of MMOs out there. On max settings, this game is by far the best graphical MMO out there. Surpassing WoW by far, and even Aion. The only games that can surpass this are ones that aren't out yet, such as Blade and Soul and possibly TERA. Aion might look better when it has the new graphic engine that's supposed to be released in their 2.5 patch. Other than those few games, all of which aren't out yet ('cept Aion, but the new engine isn't out yet), this game easily has the best graphics of any MMO. Not to mention it's one of the few games in the world, not even just one of the few MMOs, but overall few GAMES that has dynamic lighting.
