I've been through the ARR story on 4 characters and I still find it fun. >.>
I do support jump potions for those that don't enjoy it though.

But I don't wanna tank with a noob healer, I rather DPS instead and not get the blame. Even if the healer is bad, the tank gets the blame so no ty lol I rather go mnk. Another scenario, healer wants big pulls and keeps crying, tank says: yeah no u don't even give protection or proper heals when I pop big CD. As a dps I was like: poor tank :/
If they would simply remove sidequests and increase exp in the MSQ so you can simply "lvl through" without repairing earrings or mixing perfume or fetching fugly tea somewhere in the last corner of Coerthas, they would not need a jump potion and could still keep an immersive (not painful) MSQ path. Skippers will skip anyway.
You could level to 70 in one quest and you would still have to slog through the rest of the MSQ. Leveling is not the problem.
Its like this.
I saw a commercial for God of War 3. I saw all the cool new stuff for it. It got me hype. I knew of God of war before, but I wasn't interested until I saw God of War 3. Now I want to play it.
I just bought the game. I just got back home, and now I'm about to start playing.
a message appears on my screen.
"You must purchase and play through the other 2 console games, plus all the PSP games before you can play God of War 3"
The next day I returned God of War 3.
If SE doesn't find a way to get new players all the content they will be advertising in the coming months, and all the content all the current players are hype to play, it's going to isolate them.
If they are forced to play through loads of old content that may take more than a month or 2 to finish, just to get to the content that actually made them want to buy the game in the first place, they aren't going to stick around. Guaranteed.
Fixed, because this is what's actually happening.
As much as I don't seem to be, I'm actually neutral. If you play well, I won't even care if you used a jump potion or not. But the fact that one side of this argument is subscribing to asinine circle logic and completely inaccurate metaphors...
But this actually isn't the case.
All 3 discs of FF7 are advertised as one game. So when the game came out, all the content that was in the commercials, in the magazine articles, everything that would make them excited to play is all together. However in this case, the main thing that will be advertised to new players for the upcoming expansion is going to be solely about the expansion. The new level cap, the new jobs, the new areas and dungeons, it will all be about Stormblood. Its just like how Heavensward was introduced. Everything was centered around it.
So when we start to see commercials, when review videos and articles are posted, when they join the forums and the reddit pages, all they will see is stormblood. This will even be people who already knew the game existed, but was never intrigued to actually play. Stormblood just may be what they needed to give it a shot. But when they finally do....
They'll realize they'll have to play through all the old content that was NOT outright shown to them. They'll have to pay those subscription fees for those months it will take to get through it before they can even touch what was advertised to them on top of that. that's NOT the same thing, and it can most definitely be a deterrent from getting new players to try it out AND to stay.
I understand the game is all about story, story, the lore, and more story, and I'm proud of that. But if its going to a hindrance rather than a luxury, used as a large gate to keep from the content that they ACTUALLY are interested in for weeks, then why should any of these people even care about it? That's all i'm saying.
Dont let the traditions of this game become its downfall. As Yoshi-P said himself, if this game isn't able to attract new players, the player base will stabilize, and then start a decline. I don't want that. I don't know anyone who would.
Yeah I had a pally in Trial roulette think he was supposed to be a healer. And it was shiva story mode, so he didn't even have clemency.
Yeah, I'm totally against people who simply rush the whole game... But not everybody has time to lvl jobs from zero... so I understand why they buy it... And yeah, some are also too lazy, some prefer the end game asap, etc...
It's a trend to necro thread snow ?
There is also a thread for that kind of complaints.
I do think the Jump Potion is kind of a necessary evil... but could also be a WHOLE lot better.
Take Shadowbringers; those early dungeons were freaking RUTHLESS, and that's from a long-time player. Like, if you didn't already know mechanics were coming, they were eating groups alive. I can't imagine that being your first experience as a new player.
Another downside of the Jump Potion is that I do think the game's story could stand to be streamlined even more. Hell, I just did the Ivalice storyline, and one of the quests has you getting an Anniversary gift for one of the ACTORS aboard the airship?! The HELL does that have to do with anything?
In all honesty, I would consider having them offer a new "Starting Experience" entirely. Have the player start in Mor Dhona (maybe an instanced version, before it's all fixed up, with lower level enemies), have ALL of the class trainers present, and have a more expedited story. The story doesn't even really start to "get really good" until around the time you're going to confront Ifrit, anyways.
(Also; if I'm being honest, considering most New Jobs are still balanced to be scaled-down to low levels ANYWAYS, I might even let players unlock them sooner, as I imagine new jobs are a huge draw for new players)
Finally, I would incorporate the "link-pearl" to greater effect, so that turning-in quests could be minimized. Instead of CONSTANTLY going back to the Waking Sands and then right back out again, just have it send you on more of a constant circuit.
Just my take.
