There will be additional rancor over the fact that the regular fenrir is so hard to get and therefore it cheapens it, etc.

But the argument of myself and of many others in this thread is that all items should be obtainable via an in-game method due to the fact we pay a monthly subscription. I would be perfectly fine with these things being a limited-time only event, and THEN moving to the cash shop, but we don't even have that option.
For those who are OK with our current cash shop - is it just that you've never experienced any alternative? As mentioned earlier, my first MMO was XI and I didn't know what cash shops were until I branched out to F2P games (yeaaaars down the road). I suppose if this is your first MMO, or you've only played newer games, you would know no better. This obviously won't be the case for everyone. Just a shower thought.
For me, that's not it. I came over from WoW which had a cash shop, but also had a very active anti-cash shop population. Quick caveat with WoW. I left during Mists right before the introduction of the pay for level option.
I have a different viewpoint of what I expect in my subscription. My viewpoint isn't right or wrong, but it is mine. As long as the vast majority of mounts, minions, vanity items, and clothing are available in game and the cash shop isn't being used to gate content or levels, I'm okay with it.
The moment that the company starts shifting large efforts into pay-for materials or does pay for housing or pay for leveling or pay for current content, I stop being okay with it.
Am I the only one who thinks this mount is disgusting and very exxagerated to the point where I don't even wanna look at it.
Glad you all are enjoying it, though.. and Idc how many ppl it can hold, $30 is crossing the line for me and I refuse to support these prices.
Only it doesn`t. Is actually the only way this cash shop would be "justified". As it stands now, it only reduces the worth of your subscription game.
And at every step of the way in this long process till level boosting and later stat boosting stuff gets into the Cash Shop.
There is many of us that have ranted before there was even a Cash Shop, and when it was announced, and with its every update, and we will continue to do so.
LOL, way to come out of left-field with that comment. Did I strike a nerve or something? I've not been attacking anyone in this thread. Simply explaining/defending my viewpoint.
And fair enough :) Again, I get we all have our opinions on the matter, no one is right or wrong. Just trying to understand the other side a bit more.
Yep, some people just aren't happy unless they are complaining about something.
Though, I will say, I too would voice a complaint if they put items in that, you know, actually give your character an advantage - such as level skipping potions, weapons with actual stats, etc.
Read latter half of the thread and gotta parrot what a lot of other people are saying.
I don't like the cash shop. The fact of it is that time and effort put into developing the cash shop items could have been put into content obtainable within the game. Cash shop items is not an extra bonus that just popped into existence that you have the option of buying; the existence of them takes away potential content for game. I don't think that's okay, and it's not a practice I want to support. I want the option of having developer competence put into in-game rewards.
The most I can stretch to paying for is a name change and a server transfer. Those are things that would require some extra work for the SE staff, on a true on-demand basis, on top of what the typical service we pay for would entail. I'm even having a hard time justifying paying for fantasias, since using one is instant and requires no additional input from the staff whatsoever.
Definitely too ugly for me. Maybe one day I'll buy it for pure collecting purposes.
This is making me wonder though if there will ever be an easy-and-free-to-obtain two-seater mounts. All the ones out there right now require either RL money (ceremony chocobo, fat moogle, draught/amber chocobos (though they don't require YOUR money, they still require your friend's subscription money)), or 2000 mentor roulettes.
I had hopes that Midgardsorm's mount would be made a two/three-seater mount like in that Heavensward Artwork they made, but I don't see it happening now, because then less people would put in the money for those other ones.
I support the cash shop, but I think the game should offer close alternatives that aren't a royal pain in the butt to obtain.
if it wasnt in cash-shop it would have needed a very long grind that relies on rng
and no one is going to be happy either way
Did you miss this part? Do you know what a shower thought is? I was genuinely looking for insight, but obviously you're just on a rampage.
Grow some thicker skin if you think that's an attack. This may be viewed as a slight diss. I am OK with that.
how do you know that? i'm perfectly happy with the Moogle tribe mount requirements. i'm perfectly happy with the Deep Dungeon mount requirements. i would've been happy with an Aquapolis mount that's either dropped from the last chest or tied to the 20 full clear achievement or maybe a 100-200 entry achievement.
I really resent FtP for all the reasons: horrible community, bot infested, gold spam, and pay for anything worth while.
I take pride and find most fun, working for my achievements IN game, be it kills, mounts, outfits etc.
Add to that, paying a sub, they should at least make it obtainable in game as well.
A vocal few have been complaining about the cash shop since its introduction, but it seems it's gonna be here to stay.
That's the rub though. You can say these things all you want but the trend has been pushing even further and further towards the future you don't want to happen.
If the pay to receive market continues to grow it wont be long until they start to sell the most lucrative candy available (Power). This isn't even a new concept in the traditional games market buying power is a pretty common practice even in multiplayer games. Hell MMO's often offer instant leveling options and I can guarantee that if the moaning about length of time it takes to get from a new account to heavensward (Or whatever the new expansion is called) continues they will offer the option to pay to skip that "Hassle" as well.
Some people act like these types of fears are unfounded when it's happened time and time again in the market. Just because SE hasn't done it to FFXIV yet doesn't mean they don't want to, any company would seeing how quickly it can wring cash from consumers. These practices make games less of an experience and more of a commodity where you wring it for all the cash it's worth and leave it to rot pouring your newfound funds into something else you can wring for cash quickly instead of a long term investment (Such as a subscription model)
I don't see what your point is. As long as they can goad anyone into using the service of course they will keep it around. That doesn't mean we should just be cool about every little thing they put into it.
Look at it this way, the metallic dyes were a bust because beyond the few people hilariously gullible to purchase a temporary item like dye in the cash shop. What did they do with it after sales flagged and interest in it waned. They put the dyes in the game and even expanded the available dyes, sure the option to buy them still exists but it is also additional game content now instead of a separated thing.
After the xp got increased by a lot, we would not even need that. I just made an alt, to see how long it takes before commenting on one of the other forum posts. Now granted this is not meant for new players since they read the dialogs etc.
But if you skip everything lore related and don't unlock most of the dungeons besides the ones that you actually need, then it takes from 1-50 a day and 14 hours. However the story line from 2.1 - 2.55 takes nearly 2 days and that's with skipping every pop up and cut scenes, but you gain so much experience during that time, that I found myself being nearly lvl 55 before even entering Ishgard.
Now the story line 50-60 plus doing your daily roulette's, unlocking the HW dungeons and some of the side quests you need anyways for the aether currents, get you to lvl 60 before even unlocking the dravarian hinterlands and azys la. If you even want to skip that, you could run palace of the dead and do the full expansion as level 60 already.
My conclusion is, that it takes around 4 -6 days getting your character from 1-60 without any hassle, and you have plenty of quests/dungeons/trials left to level another character since you skipped it prior, we do not need leveling potions. But then again, if some people would love to skip the 2 days it takes to finish msq 2.1-2.55 I am fine with that as well. Everybody can decide how to spend their money.
Bought and love the mount. :)
Thank you SE and Yoshi for this adorable mount.
Kupo!
Can we have 1.x back please?
There was no cash shop!
"I want a broken, incomplete game back... because there's a cash shop filled with OPTIONAL stuff I DON'T have to pay for."

Mount is amazing. The cost is offensive. I'm very disappointed with this outrageous decision.
Damn, I kind of want that, but not enough to pay that much for it. I'd rather spend the $30 on game time.
Maybe if they have a big sale... but otherwise? nope nope nope...
Mount looks to be of good quality (time spent on it), but just like the EB one, not my cup of tea in design.
You mean the retextured flying fat chocobo with bomb palanquin chains(also retextured)? or the (Allready ingame) Odin mount?
Sure they really broke their backs on those...
On the upside we know they aren't wasting too many resources on these things using existing assets and just morphing them into ungodly apperations looking at you PLD War"Lion" mount.
Your hate is by comparison of what? There's only a few "unique" mounts in this game, and even then, the assets already exist (like the Gobwalker) or are reused over and over (like the primal mounts). When you compare it to what's available now, it's fairly up there in quality. I'm assuming the mogs on the side do something as well. Something tells me you're just needlessly spiteful.
There's actually an instant 100 now, in prep for Legion I guess. Not really a big deal though for that game.
Just to emphasize why I said it's not a big deal. I recently subbed again. I went from 90-100 in 3 or 4 hours with upgraded heirlooms (which means around 5 or so hours without). Going from 1-90 takes about that same span of time as well. So uhmm... what part of that makes the instant 100 a big deal? With a game that you can just solo quest all the way to max level.
As for this game, do you really think the leveling process is mandatory at this point? At least for people who already leveled to max on one job, that is. You don't really learn a whole lot while you level, and if you have the drive to learn, you'd do it anyway regardless of taking the slow approach or jumping ahead. Do we magically not have bad players now or something? Those guys were forced to group up too to get to the HW areas. While I don't really see a point to having the instant boost option here, I'm not so ignorant as to just automatically state it'll be the destruction of the game, which is exactly what it seems you're implying. Correct me if I'm wrong about that. We are talking about a game that lets you level up solo, aren't we? One that even in groups, lets you be carried too. Maybe if this game were very strict about its leveling process, the argument against an instant boost would have significant merit, but where we are now... it's just pointless defense.
Oh sorry I didn't know you are unable to notice the re textures.
Hell even the side moogles are existing assets none of it is new it's all re purposed artwork, well besides the actual re texturing of the model skeletons for the main mount. I'm not saying it took no work I'm just pointing out it's evident where the corners were cut on a premium $30.00 product that costs more than the game itself <_<.
