Actually I want battle system changed and I'm glad they knocked down the party size to 8 players because the battle system sucks and there is no strategy whatsoever in 3/4 the things we kill, just mash one button over and over and the mob will go down.
Another thing I would like to see is redrawing all the maps. Its a stupid thing for me to even mention because they would never do it, but the game is so ugly and one dimensional...I want different areas like *every other MMO* has, zone to zone, different looks, different music, different mobs. Don't make me rank up from 1 to 50 in one freakin zone.
While most of your concerns are some I can agree with - you're in the wrong thread buddy. This one is clearly about Triple Triad.
There is a good point in the opening movie where they all dump their guildleves on the table and start shuffling through them. It would be so cool to have a Triple Triad table where the cards are 'leves' made from colored class and metal.

Thanks, Rentahamster! Yes, this is pretty accurate. I know that this news can be kind of a bummer, but I'm sure you understand where the development priorities are at the moment. I want to point out that when we say things like "keep those ideas coming!" we do mean it.
The ideas presented thus far are pretty interesting and I have been reading this thread for awhile ;) So to keep up with the norm... keep those ideas coming!
I think Triple Triad, as far as I noticed, got the most feedback as far as the mini-games aspect goes. I agree it should be done after all the fixes are done, but I think it'd be a great addition! I loved the system in Final Fantasy 8, it was simple yet complex at the same time, and I think it'd be awesome to be able to farm cards from monsters. I actually had an idea in how you could receive certain cards.
Kind of like in other games where you get "Titles" for killing a mob a certain amount of times, in FFXIV perhaps you could just receive a certain mob-type's card?
Example:
0/100 [Spriggans]
100/100 [This one type of Coblyn] - You recieve This Coblyn's Card
34/100 [Another type of Coblyn]
12/100 [Peist]
100/100 [Foot-soldiers] - You receive the Footsoldier card.
And for really really difficult monsters, you would have to kill them 10 times instead of 100, but 10 is still enough for it to be difficult to get!

Think for a game like FFXIV, where the Leves look like cards, the devs could certainly get pretty creative with the monster cards you recieve.
and since I said it, that means I hold the key >=D I am the keymaster!
+1 to all the ideas raised around how the cards are obtained (grinding mobs, NPC, tournaments, PVP)
+1 to PVP with the abilities to do ranked and friendly matches with the ability to bet (gil, items, your cards)
-1 to a remake of the exact same game, do something fresh. It can be inspired by mini-games that have gone before it or be an evolved form of a previous but not exactly the same. The reason being a player's previous experience in the old game. A new game provides an even playing field at the point it is implemented. Not only from a collection point of view but also in terms of game knowledge and understanding.
As long as the mini games have specific themes (yes i'm a really big fan of JRPG soundtracks and Uematsu in general).
I vote for tripple triad. I would like to see other mini games as well, but having a card game in game would be excellent. From collecting, trading, winning and losing, playing the card game would add more things to do in game.
I am also interested in a casanio in game, and would like some mini games that tie into the lore and world, but I vote for triple triad first and this after they fix the games issues.
The card game from FFVIII, I loved that!!!! The second time I played the game through I just had to collect them all!

I liked TetraMaster but I never played it on POL, i would have played it much more if it were in game.
I like Triple Triad better though, I played it constantly in FFVIII! If this was in game and NPCs had a little Card Icon to indicate they want to play, that would be just awesome!

Id like an ORIGINAL mini game, preferably one that doesnt involve pokemon of some kind. Yes im saying it, those cards are basically pokemon and they were just following the Japanese trend of making everything into a card game in the last decade. I feel this would turn out the same way chocobo racing and pankration did on ffxi, those zones were empty most of the time.
I'm also surprised so many seem to want triple triad, I've never seen so many people compliment it. It's usually another reason to hate on FF8.
Parley is original, no one liked it.
The parley from Vanguard is what should have been copied, it's a card game AND parley. I think it's actually called diplomacy and it was one of my favorite things in that game.
Triple Triad! Would definetly love to see that ingame, best FF mini-game hands down. Keep everything the same but put XIV monsters/people/whatnot on the cards. Scrap parley
For FF14, I'd like something new. We're long overdue for a new card game in the Final Fantasy series.
I'd like to see monsters, NPCs & Other Players drop Cards that go into your Card Collection (separate space, so it doesn't take up inventory).
As with Tetra Master, i would like cards to level up the more we use them, along with elemental/physical properties & weaknesses.
In the event a player loses to another player, i would like the option to pay them a set amount of Gil (based on the card's rarity they chose) instead of losing that card (If the rules to losing/winning were to work in this manner in the first place).
The Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon pop-up card game was also pretty fun.

If the PS3 launch is a success i could see SE being able to market their own card game (in real life) in the same manner that Blizzard did as well.

FFXIV already has a minigame. It's not Triple Triad (And I really don't udnerstand why people love that so much) or Tetra Master, but it would suffice if you could at least challenge other players to it.
They should come up with new minigames, not recycle old ones. That's what they've done already and what they should continue to do.
Parley isnt in anyway fun and its slow as hell.

I don't care what it is, just give us a card game. Original, Triple Triad or Tetra Master I just want something. Keep it card based, please nothing like Sphere Break or Parley, those aren't fun at all.
A card Game using the Elements of Eorzea, Umbral and Astral being the rare cards. :) I have more mechanics for this, but I'm not sure just how much I should go into detail right now. I'm heading to bed. :P
Ideally sure, a new game would be nice, but there's a few problems with that.
The devs are short on time. According to the dev post, they're so overwhelmingly busy with other stuff, they don't even have time to do minigames right now.
Sure, they could spend the time to create an all new game, with all new gameplay and all new rules.
But....that takes time. Time they don't have.
Triple Triad is already established. The rules are set already. They could even just copy the NPC AI routines from the FF8 source code. The work on Triple Triad is already done. The only thing the FF14 dev team would need to do is program it into the game and make the card graphics.
Triple Triad is one of the most favorite of Final Fantasy minigames, according to fans. Why not take advantage of that?

I would recommend have instead of have one single chat that has all chats but being able to seperate chats so having multiple chats on screen its a bit of a pain having to scroll everytime just in case i missed a message
all speed up mining its so slow lol
also if no one has notice this if u sit down and use a buff skill you dont have a timer its instant but the second skill you will use will have a time
Honestly, if you were to implement Triple Triad INGAME (and not how it was in FFXI as a standalone), allowing players to farm cards as rare drops from mobs, craft them, quest for them and such, leading to simply offering people ingame a game of cards, without any need for logging out to a separate client, and no silliness like Pankration, or that kind of thing, just simply Triple Triad, well, you would have a lifetime sub out of me in the drop of a hat.
Seriously, there are no words to describe how much I love Triple Triad and collecting the cards in FF8. I can't continue typing about this though, as the more I type, the more I realise it isn't in the game, and it makes me sad.
