Your wrong on the RGB scale but right on the CMYK. RGB is based on light so the less light you have the darker no light is black (Or at least how our eyes perceive it) CMYK would be inks (more in line with physical art) so the more you add the deeper the color but if you add everything you get black as it is the deepest (Most absorbing of light). The running assumption is RGB scale for the choco which is why the semantic of lighten and deepen are part of the argument because it really changes how you look at the numerical value.
From what I've observed, for white, I would expect something like this:
20 Plums, 15 Valfruits would get close
30 Plums, 20 Valfruits, 10 Pineapples might be closer to what you need
From what I've seen reported, "lightens" means "increases the RGB values of the OTHER two colors while keeping this color fairly steady (or reducing it slightly)" and "darkens" means "reduce the RGB values of the OTHER two colors while slightly increasing this color's RGB value." So, since you start with tons of red, slightly less green, and low blue, pumping plums first will shoot the blue up, increase the green slightly, and reduce the red a bit. This gives too much green relative to the other colors. Throwing in Valfruits next will push the red value back up while mitigating the high green value a bit. Blue will be the highest after that, so some Pineapples should equalize the colors a bit. That should be close to white, but my numbers are obviously randomly chosen. Not enough data to get actual values yet.
This means, for black, if I'm right, you want tons of darkens. First, you want to darken blue, but if you just darken blue, you'll get tons more blue mixed in. So, to compensate, you need to darken the other two colors as well. The darkest color we've found so far here is Royal Purple, obtained by darkening red and blue and lightening green. If you'll notice, this resulted in massively decreased red and green, but with blue not really moving. If my theory is right, then if the Valfruits were left out, it would have wound up with a much lower value for blue and red and be closer to black.
So, for black, perhaps something like this:
20 Berries, 10 Apples, 10 Pears should get you in the right direction
30 Berries, 15 Apples, 15 Pears might be closer to what you need
These are just guesses, obviously.
Question though, when people are saying they fed them 30x one fruit + more, is that within the 1 6hr wait time?

What you are remembering is perhaps the combos with paint.
However, our chocobo dyes is not based on that, but on the theory of Light itself, which is different from mixing with paint.
You understand that the Rainbow is from light right? That's because, light (white) is a combo of all the colors of the rainbow.
Thus white is actually all the colors combined, while Black is the lack of color.

Fed mine a lot of lighten blue and red, and 6 darken greens. So mine will probably turn out some shade of blue or green? Will see in about 5 hours.
FCmate fed 21 O'ghomoro Berries, got Raptor Blue. Didn't take a screenshot, but I can confirm. Saw in person.
If I'm right in how this works, you start out with a bunch of red and green and little blue. Lots of lighten blue and red will max out green while keeping blue and red kinda average (much more red than blue though). Then, darkening the green a bit will cut a chunk out of the blue and red, resulting in very high green, very low blue, and fairly low red. I'd expect the result, therefore, to be something like Apple Green, Cactaur Green, or Meadow Green. Let's see what the results are! :D
Apparently 2 apples + 12 Doman Plums + 1 mamook pear = sylph green chocobo

Coral Pink: x4 Deepen Red / x4 Deepen Blue / x4 Lighthen Green
Someone posted their Othard Blue bird with the light:

Quite beautiful.
7 pears + 2 berries gave me a lime green mintcobo

we are doing several tests in this picture below is
10 red increase = million corn yellow (right side)
10 blue reduction = honey yellow (left side)
the miniature lala chocobo is the standard un-dyed color
still waiting for results from and will post screen shots later only used red increase 50 x and one with only red increase with 5x

I was expecting a bit more of a drastic change when you fed it... I gave my bird one O'ghomoro Berry earlier and it hasn't changed at all... Still the default yellow. Is this normal?
What did you feed to get that? It looks amazing! Not far off the shade I'm going for myself.
Is it just me, or are the green birds just not very obviously green like the blues and reds posted thus far?
OK, I want a Rolanberry Red. Any Idea how to get it or something close.
That hasn't been figured out yet. I'm waiting for that as well! Someone is making a google doc of the combinations reported so far:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...view?sle=true#
I'm hoping that MikuHatsune can share the food she fed her bird to get "Blood Red" as a result as well, that's still missing from the spreadsheet
So I was going for Celeste green, and I ended up with apple green... Still pretty!
I'm not sure what the actual names of the fruits were, but I know it was 10 darken blue, 5 darken green, and 3 lighten red.

^ that green look gorgeous... are you gonna mess it to get the actuall green you wanted?
my results:
My first 6hrs finished.. ended up with millicorn color, after feeding it 10 apples 3 pineapples 3 Berries.
Starting next feeding. Starting from millicorn color. Fed 6 Pears then saw the message " "name" is beginning to grow new feathers!" Im going to leave it there and not touch it. As I agree. once u see that message I think it locks in a color choice, which color... idk. will do some math when this feeding finishes.
I got Cream Yellow with only 4 pineapples, and 3 plums. No valfruit.
So if I'm reading this right to try to get Ink blue I'd need to use upwards of 28ish of "lighten hue" ones to get it there?
Starting to think mine will be moss green. I hope not. That's the least attractive green to me. Lol
Just did 12 +green, heres to hoping it looks cool!
I wish we could do the highlights at their feather tips! Imagine how much prettier that could be
OK, above somewhere is a post with a screenshot of 3 birds ... the one on the left is mine, and it's honey yellow ... this tells us TWO things:
1) Only one food is affecting the bird (Mine was only fed pineapples)
2) Feeding them beyond the "starts to grow new feathers" announcement either has absolutely NO effect, or is capped at some point ( I fed mine 10 pineapples). we will know in a few hours as one of our guys has fed the pineapples and stopped at the first "new feathers" announcement.
The "above somewhere" bit is here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...here%21/page26
The question then remains, did you feed pineapples first or last (actually a moot question, the pineapples were the only thing that affected your bird)
