PS. And as soon as there IS more content, and more places to go, and more reasons to move around, people will run out of anima even faster and be on foot way more often than they port.

[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.] At least require people to run from the middle of the zone instead of teleporting directly into town.. And again, like I said, i had enough friends to supply anima for me that I rarely got under 70 anima points... and i used to play every day. [Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.]
Funny that, I admittedly may have stopped playing for a while (explaining my low rank) but now I'm back and I log in every day and play. Oh look, I have 100 anima! because I log in where I logged out and theres no need for me to go anywhere just yet, but when I'm done here, I can teleport anywhere any time, stay there and do what I need to do, then look at that, 100 still!
"abusing"? So I run out and have to walk... But walking is what you WANT me to do. So its a problem for you that I end up having to do it?? Do I spy an oxymoronic argument here? You want me to have to walk, but you hate that I have to walk..... Yeah...
And you like walking rather than porting. Good for you! Then continue to walk instead of port! Is that so hard?? How is everyone ELSE porting or rushing through the game hurting you? If porting across the map is so damn stupid to you (nevermind every MMO have SOME form of teleport), just don't do it!!! What a crazy idea!!
Well I am a little late to the party here arent I? :P Anywho. Let me start by saying this is an MMORPG. Yeah that is right guys an MMO. Now if you have ever played an MMO before you know that they are time consuming and for the most part should be challenging. Now I am not saying this game should be like Kirin fights back in 2005 but there should be some challenge here. Now let me say I do love FFXIV. I think it is a game with much potential but SE is simply handing stuff over to us without making us work for it. On topic with the Anima... Personally from my point of view I dislike the whole anima system and would love to see it gone. Now before you flame me on this look at it like this. (I saw something similar to this earlier in the topic sorry forgot who posted it >_>) But in an MMO its all about accomplishments. XI for instance. Getting your sub job items was huge wasnt it? Getting your chocobo pass to get to places faster after that crazy walk through agro zones knowing you will be able to avoid that agro when your done questing your pass. Oh what about that time you got to level 30 and started questing those new jobs? Bringing back memories am I? lol sorry didnt mean to make you emotional haha. But come on guys when you were doing all those quests you all wanted to kill yourselfs because it was taking forever huh? But what about after? It felt damn good didnt it? "Dont have to do that again THANK GOD!" "Woot questing for this job was so worth it I love SAM!" In XIV I dont quite get that feeling I had in XI. Everything is just there... I do feel for you casual gamers because I am one myself. Now I am not saying this game should be for the extreme players only cause hell like I said I am a casual player too. To me they are making XIV too casual and forgetting about what people really enjoy in MMOs. Now before you say go back to XI blah blah blah. Believe me I would if it was how it was 2 years ago before abyssea. But what is killing XI? The fact it is too easy now. Everything is being handed to you on a silver platter. As a soon to be father, living on my own with my fiance and paying the bills I still like to come home and be able to "accomplish things" not log in and warp here do a silly leve iv been doing for a month and get bored. I like to play my 1-3 hours a night get some stuff done and cant wait for the next day or the weekend or whatever to continue my journey. This game is huge. Its beautiful. Not too much happening in the world but that will come eventually (hopefully) But for you people who enjoy it do you really see yourself playing it in a few years with it being as easy as it is now?
WALLOTEXT lol sorry but yeah these are just me feelings. Im not attacking anyone personally or agreeing or disagreeing but come on guys easy games are snore inducing lol. Hopefully we see the challenege in the future =(
I have to say this and if someone has im sorry but you all seem to have forgotten that you have to walk to a place before you can warp there so i dont see why we must always walk back to a place we have already been just saying if no one else has.
There are two types of people of the forum. The ones that hate or want to dictate how others play and the ones that don't care what others do once they are not subjected to changes that would affect their gaming.
Leaving anima in the game is not stupid or does not make the alternative methods of traveling useless. If you personally hate teleporting then simply STOP TELEPORTING. Its that simple. No one should dictate how or when someone should teleport because quite frankly that is none of your concern. If you feel that it would ruin the game because someone else is enjoying the luxury of teleporting then you need to re-evaluate yourself.
with that kind of thinking soon there will be less then 100k people playing that game.. because we will all be bored.
@akisato - most of us just want some work thrown in there at first instead of it just handed over.. to give us somthign to do and a sense of accomplishment. we dont all just want it GONE (although Ide be fine with it gone.. give the mages teleport scrolls)
I dont take sides but I agree with mort there. Yes you dont have to use anima if you dont want to but if everyones rushing through a game where will that game be in a few years? ._.;
If you are going to reply to anything I post please for the love of logic make sense. Besides I doubt very much that the population is even that high and it is a FACT whether you have come to accept it or not this game has been rejected by the majority of the gaming population. While I may not have exact or factual reasons as to why they have rejected the game I can say with certainty that its not because of the reasons you have pointed out.
Might be a better idea to fix the game as content is added before making it more difficult to carry out simple tasks.
Yes timesinks are the best way to make a game long but definitely not enjoyable. And lets be real people this game lacks content and making traveling easier only makes this more and more apparent. If someone wants to rush through the game, let them. Your logic is the core behind the foolishness of fatigue.
While I agree it's wrong to dictate what others do, I'm thinking more about the game it's self rather than myself. I make games for a living, so it's not like I'm completely clueless about how games work and what they should and should not have.
And while I wish you were right in saying that if you don't like teleporting, then don't use it, but this is not how the human mind works (unfortunately) so as logical as it may sound, it doesn't work that way. Teleporting is there, and knowing this makes walking travelling the old fashioned way seem less of an achievement.
Let me run this through you; you're meeting up with some friends in a land far away from you, to start an epic quest. You set out on your way, you run into some trouble, aggros and such that you fight off bravely, then you set out, you discover new scenery that you never knew about before, and it's something you'll have to come back to later to find out about, because your friends are awaiting your arrival. So you continue on down the path and eventually you get there. You say hello to your friends, then tell them about your adventure on the way, about how your fought off wild beasts with your might, and how you made pretty good time to get here so fast. At this point, one of your friends say to you "k, you shoulda teleported here, woulda been less hassle". How do you feel then? like all of what you just achieved is now pointless?
I had a lot of friends on this game. As the weeks go on a lot of them stopped playing. My linkshell went from having anywhere from 20-30 people online to 1 or 2. Now thats just 1 LS. Picture how many other ls's are going through it and those are your numbers for where this game is heading. Like I said. I do enjoy XIV. I believe and hope someday soon it will succeed but as days go on more and more are leaving. and its just not looking good. =(
I no longer wish to entertain your tomfoolery. You are a quest that cannot be completed. You are content that I wish was removed from this forum. You are simply the kind of person I do not like seeing in my entire life because you refuse to ahh forget it i don't even want to finish this sentence. I suggest you stop asking me questions or engaging me in conversation because I will no longer reply to your post, they are asinine.
Like I just wasted half of the game time they have to play on my solo adventuring after we all planned to adventure together on a specific quest.
So next time, I won't waste their game time after we plan to adventure together and go adventure with them instead of solo?
I first want to say: props to you for being able to disagree with someone without turning it into a battle of insults. I think we'd be more productive as a forum if we were able to discuss like this more often.
That being said I spend a lot of time running in this game and I have to say that awesomely poetic description of traveling is pretty far from a typical travel. There are some nice looking areas, but there is guaranteed to be nothing there. The world is empty. So It's usually just holding up on the control stick/arrow key for 10-15 minutes while genuinely not having fun. At least in all of my experiences it is.
I definitely agree that the game should have a sense of accomplishment, but I'm not sure that it should be coming from traveling, I'd much rather get that from completing certain quests, or getting special items.
First, if you enjoy the journey and had fun walking/running to location why does it matter what others think? I definitely wouldn't feel it was pointless if I had fun doing it.
Besides that, there is absolutely nothing worth looking forward to on your journeys in this game. Its the same boring desolate terrain each and everytime. Like I have mention before, things that you see on your journey in this game that is interesting all leads to nothing. But besides that, if gamers felt that they were missing out by not exploring, they would quickly gain an interest in exploring the world and see all of those sites (which doesn't exist in the game) that you talk about. In addition to that, the scenario that you mention would only occur once on that specific path and allowing gamers to teleport if they chose to after taking that wonderful journey is the joy of having options.
As a game maker you should understand that options are key to a game being successful especially in a genre like this.
You aren't seeing the potential of the game to come. FFXIV will have a lot more content in the future, things to see and to do, things to explore and discover, until then, this Anima system we have is fine because I agree, the world is crap with nothing in it. But when the time comes that there will be content like I mentioned above, the Anima system would have ruined that. That is to say, the current Anima system. I don't want to get rid of it but it needs to change
This is whats wrong, two type of people who are on this topic, people who only think about themself and other who would sacrifice a but to make the game better. NO ONE ENJOYS going on the same road to camp again and again, but if there is a instant teleport, everyone will use it because it human natures to take the easy road, but that will kill the game, thats why some people who hope this game goes on for awhile wanting to cut back on something that would kill the game.
This topic is about the future, who want to cut down on such things now, but once chocobo/airships and contents added, would you still want these handholding? what the point of implementing a chocobo/airship if no one gonna use it(people will always take the easy road")? Think about the furture when people gets soo attached to this easy life they wont wanna do anything worth trouble and will be even more against to change the system, they would want aethrtye everywhere, beside dungeons, beside a beastmen camp and this would sent the DEVs to a corner where they have to make content around this "DEV: should we make a aerthrye close to final boss in the dungeon? incase they wipe or its bed time?"
Edit: No one in this topic want the system eliminated that would be dumb incase you wanna travel long distances, they wanted it adjusted so it cant spammed.
In a casual game, I'm looking for a little less traveling. Especially when you're trying to get a group together and one or more people take forever running because they aren't conservative with their anima. When I want the traveling adventure, I just pick a direction and and start running. I find a cave, or whatever where there are NMs and I hunt them. I go get myself killed just for kicks. I understand the concept of feeling accomplished, but I would like to get the feeling of accomplishment in the quests/missions/storyline more than the everyday travel. I don't see why restrictions need to be put in place so some people can force a sense of accomplishment on themselves and others.
Let me see if I understand this. No one enjoys going back and fort between locations thus the reason folks teleport. You are saying that its better for people not to enjoy the game by going back and fort than allowing them to teleport and for some strange reason it would make the game better by forcing folks to do something they don't enjoy. Am I understanding you correctly?
10 pts to Dekken but, stop trying to hog all my points. Its like Anima, I only have a limited amount so stop making so much sensible points.
*points to post #277 for reference about future*
ok not sure what you mean by work i died like 4 times trying to get to nine ivies almost died trying to get to crimson bark but do you mean the anima? also "give the mages teleport" is all you guy thinking back to 11; so i have to ask did you do the quests to get the scrolls or did you just buy them?
This is a little over the top. I don't consider modes of transportation "handholding". This conversation has gone beyond what it should based on what we have now in the game. It is too early to tell how Chocobos, airships and whatnot will mix with the anima system. Why is it hard to believe just a little that what they implement will COMPLIMENT the existing transportation methods already in place? Its not hard to assume they will work around what already exists in the game without the devs personally wiping the tender crevasses of the "pampered" casuals. The ability to teleport I believe is an essential part of a game that is meant to include people who do not have a lot of time, but still wish to enjoy the content.
Nine Ives can be reached if someone else teleports there and your in the party, just like all the other camps. but the discussion is about having to travel anywhere, anytime. It gets boring after a while and will kill the game life quickly. The Teleport scroll in 11 i did them sold them to invest, bought myself a Haubergeon(2004), when i level'd WHM, i bought them back form AH.
Teleport-Holla please
