Thanks for the info! The numbers listed for "needed gathering stat" are either guessed at or what was previously reported by the pullers in this very thread. Other than catching multiples of a fish at lesser and lesser gathering stats, there's really no way to know what the threshold is, so it's very much a guess in most cases. They should be treated as a guide only. If you happen to catch any of them with a lesser gathering stat, please report it so I can edit the post :D.

At this point of course DoL.com has their fish tool fully updated, so this thread remains only as... Well, not entirely sure. But if people keep finding use here, then I'm glad for it!

More information on it makes me more confortable. Now woking on my new 5/5 melds on ILV 70 that I was not aware of to try to catch more of those big fishes. Thank you again o/

I doubt that's correct ... Gathering affects how big fish you can catch with in turn will be count as HQ or not based on size so being able to catch NQ does not imply being able to catch HQ with the same stats unfortunatelly.

Anyway - I've turned the bunch of NQ SSs to NPC for Stuffed Artichoke and used two so far (2 x 30 minutes) but so far still no luck with getting HQ. Anyone knows what's the size treshold for HQ here? The largest one I've got with the food buff was 169.6 ilms and I believe it's about 170? Got another bunch of NQs so will exchange those too and run marathon pulling to see if it's possible to pull the HQ ones with my current buffed stats (325 / 217). If not will go craft some +Gath HQ food later on. And - thanks god for Vita remote play on PS4 - I can keep pulling on my way to / from work as well ... ;)

My bad. I was referring to Perception which I think the original question was about. As for Gathering, you are absolutely correct.

Was trying to catch Old Softie today and it got away 5 times in a row, quite surprised by that and I am a little salty about it lol Got almost everysingle big fish one shotting and I was with 363 while trying to get him. Welp, looks like RNG was not by my side at the time :/

Finally got my rod a few days ago, and went on a fishing spree for all the other Big Fish, with food I have 348 gathering and I have so far caught almost all of them (missing 5 now).

I am going to go with the Japanese website on Jacques the Snipper. I have only been able to catch him between 9 pm and 3 am, any weather. Llem, what was your source on the All Day? As an FYI, I recently changed servers just to meet new folks. On the day I switched Sargatanas was the only Legacy server available, so I moved there. Wouldn't mind taking a fishing trip with yourself and the Huckster. I'm still working on catching all the HQ's. In La Noscea the only two I have left is Jacques the Snipper and the Faerie Queen. I've caught several NQ Faerie Queen, but I have a feeling the HQ is beyond my reach right now. She has broken my line and stole my spinner three times already. In the Shroud I still need Carp Diem, Ghost Carp, Dark Ambusher, Blue Widow and Judgeray. In Thanalan I still need Glimmerscale, Rivet Oyster, Slime King, Old Softie and Marrow Sucker.

Just caught Jacques the Snipper (HQ) 18.5 ilms (breaks the Japanese record)

6pm. 6am is officially "morning."

some say "Daytime" some say "all day" am I to assume they both mean hours between 6am - 6pm?

If I list it as "all day," I mean the 24 hour period. Daytime would be 6am to 6pm.

Dream Goby can be caught in a Dust Storm. Slime King HQ can be caught with 371 Gathering.

It was mentioned somewhere in this article about a Discipline of the Land website that had to do with fish. I want to advise everyone that this website is accurate, but only to a certain point. As an example, Old Softie. Nowhere on that page does it say that Old Softie can only be caught between 4 pm to 12 pm, which is leading some people to believe that you can catch it all day. In another case, High Perch, it says you can catch it at Night. Again, accurate to a certain point. It can be caught between 2 am to 8 am, with my greatest degree of success between 4 am to 8 am. It's an okay website, but not anywhere near the best. My personal favorite is http://ff14angler.com/fish . This is extremely accurate, and I have only found very minor discrepancies in terms of weather, for example, they like to say the word Sunny instead of Clear, or they might leave out Fair Weather, etc., and only the tiniest bit of discrepancies as far as times.

How high does my perception need to be in order to get hq silver Sovereign cuz right now mine is at 261 and my gathering is at 302 with out food I have gotten 8 nq ones and a crap load of nq mahi-mahi. My gear is almost fully melded with perception minus a few more points and I have used hq tomato pie and that does not seem to help much or at all.

You have enough. Fishing at night might be easier, as mahi-mahi's don't bite at night. Expect to catch maybe 3 to 4 a day.

Armorer is listed as "All Day" but on xidb there are two screen shots of it being caught at night. also one screen shot includes cloudy weather. Im still working on this fish. been at it "All Day" but no luck. will update when i catch this one.

update got my armorer at night 8:21 et. i had fished all day and nothing so i am convinced its night

It's your choice but like I said I had fished all day under weather conditions and did not catch it. I researched on xivdb.com and there are 2 screenshots of it being caught at night. I then finally caught it at night also. I think that is plenty of proof it should be changed. anyways thanks for the guide i'm 2 fish away from finishing and this guide has helped a lot.

Took me a lot longer than I had planned, but I finally caught every big fish! Thanks for this thread, couldn't have gotten them all without it. :)

The last fish I need is Dark Knight. I have fished for it many times during daytime during the weather listed and have not even gotten a bite. I see a post on xivdb.com says he caught this at night. I am going to try to catch this at night under weather. i will update you when I catch it.

well right after I wrote this I caught it. et was 5:53pm so it was daytime but the weather under dust storm. anyway i am done! ty

Perception is more than enough however the gathering is very low, I haven't managed to get any HQ ss with GA at 302 for full 3 (IRL) days, needed to pipmp it by food and GC bonus over 310 to start catching HQs.

I caught mine at night also. It was around midnight ~ 1:00AM. I caught it rather quickly with 337 gathering (was using a stuffed artichoke)

I've since noted that it's probably easier to catch at night. I'd be happy to change it to a night catch only, but unless Huckster was mistaken in when he caught his, I can't do that.

Ah ok well according to this site (which pulls data from people's fishing logs - though I think it only works on JP clients as I couldn't get it to work using an English one) most people have caught it at night as you have mentioned. The day thing coulda been a rare fluke maybe? Here's the direct link to the fish. That site now has an English version and I found it very helpful to use for all the big fish catching. I hope the guy makes an English version of the log reader so those of us using English interface can contribute our fishing results.

Hey everyone, just wanted to pop in here to give a big thanks to all of the fishers out there for gathering up all this great info. As of last night I finally caught the last big fish I needed, got my achievement, and finished my fishing log!

Am I missing out on something with my stats for fishing, how the hell do people get up into the 300's, what are they melding?
Anyone fancy linking me to somewhere explaining this cause for searching I can't find shit. . . . been after that titanic sawfish since 2.2 launched .. . . . . . . BALLACHE!!!

How are you getting 348 gathering from gear? Foragers rod+ hat, combined with max melded gear is only 339.

Has anyone had problems with the Great Gudgeon in middle La Noscea? I'm at 368 gathering and it keeps getting away every time I hook it. I've tried every weather and time of day, it's gotten away several dozen times now.

No issues, caught it last night with only 332 gathering (*´∀｀)

Also, that Japanese fishing site I linked to, I went ahead and manually made a spreadsheet for myself with best baits and exact hours based on the input of those using the site's app. (I even used it last night when fishing although I had to switch to Japanese interface for it to pick up my catches.) It was mostly so I could "cross off" which fish I caught.

Edit: Re-uploaded my image because I finally caught all the fish and I made some changes due to some of them requiring certain weather to catch.

As a note I have 332 gathering with Forager's rod/Forager's hat and not that perfect of a meld. Using HQ tomato pie is the best gathering I can get from my stats. Those who have the best meld or have more than 332 gathering you might want to try using an HQ Spinach Quiche instead. The Dream Goby I already had when making this so I didn't add any data on it sorry! Additionally Silver Sovereigns and Navigator's brand I already had after I had completed in getting my rod and Wawalago's quest fish so I didn't list them either. The fish with bold red/yellow highlight next to them were very tricky and got away a few times before I got them. Also the way you read the hours is ex: 9PM - 2AM - Start at 9PM - soon as 2AM hits no more fish are coming.

It's a royal pain, but you can get it. I was able to catch an HQ Great Gudgeon with 371 Gathering.

Armorer can be caught in any weather.
