The fact that they did a hotfix twice just proves they didn't care about the gil situation for a week. If they cared about people doing it they would have made this change when they took out the extra clusters. It's not like they didn't know it was going on. They did nothing at all to stop the exchange of seals for gil until now and that is only because it was "more than they expected."

What else were you expecting? Generating millions of gil out of thin air is bad for the economy. SE let this go for a week and look how bad it is now.

Thats not because they wanted it that way. Obviously they didnt. Do you see their solution? Change the gil making items to 1 gil.

They are just being slow and or ineffective about exploits.

That doesn't make any sense.

They immediately fixed the cluster problem. If this was such an exploit, such a no-no that they in no way intended, they could have immediately dealt with it then. They didn't because it was ok with them.

Now they see it was getting out of hand and had to flip the switch. Doesn't mean its an exploit and also doesn't mean they didn't feel it was ok at the beginning for people to do it.

This is going to be one of those infinite agree to disgree things.

I dont feel like its fair to other players. I have made money off of the event - because I dont want to be left (entirely) behind. However I still think they should take all the money made off it away - making sure to give the seals earned back.

My bottom line is they allowed a system that printed too much money into circulation too quickly - I dont want to see economic problems in 1.0 or 2.0 (economic problems are retarded... because its supposed to be a video game not economics class).

It's impossible to do that without a large scale rollback. And seeing how SE fails at manipulating character data due to the current version of the game being poorly coded, that will never happen.

Taken money back at a large scale without a rollback is not possible for a simple reason. That money may be already traded or spent. What if I made 10 millions and purchased materia with the money from the wards and melded it into a my weapon? Cannot undo that.

I'll take this argument. I was thinking about how they had to take down the server just to modify item data.

Its possible they dont even have the proper tools to do any sort of large scale modification. A shame, but quite possible. (Its fairly complex but not impossible to have a program follow the chains of action and revert each action, gil spent here return item - its more computer time consuming (takes a long time to process so much data even though its a program), but you'd only have to write the program once)

I really hope they build the tools in 2.0.

Try to imagine how long it would take to reverse all actions. Even within hours, changes are massive. Plus you would penalize players who never did anything wrong.

Stupid example:

I get 10M, I spend them at wards. About 20 sellers receive some money from these 10M because I spent cash at their retainers. All these 20 sellers used the cash to go do some synthesis! Because they ran out of cash before and needed cash to craft again.

Are you going to rollback the synthesis progress these players made because the cash they obtained was coming from a player who didn't obtain it "legitimately" ? What about these 20 innocent player's efforts? They did spent time to level their crafts with that money, can you refund them the time they wasted? But on the other hand, if you leave the EXP they earned you don't rollback everything and it wouldn't be really fair either.

Oh yeah also, to craft again, these 20 sellers spend the cash at more retainers and then sold items they crafted... *infinite loop*

So server-wide rollback is the only viable and fair option.
