That said, dual shields (a la Rhitahtyn) specifically were mentioned as one of the weapon types (alongside Hammers, which seem a given at this point) they were considering pre-Dawntrail, and I'm not sure they'd do both, even as different Roles

I took the poll, so this is just to elaborate. I really want wands/scepters, either as options for existing casters or a new job way down the road… both WHM and BLM had them early on and then they just disappeared! But for weapons we haven’t really seen in-game yet, I’d like to see a whip; probably the upcoming BST would be the best choice. Also would like to see a morning star, puppets, and something for ranged that’s not just another gun (MCH), arrows (BRD) or variation of chakrams (DNC). Phys Ranged is probably the next dps role to get a new job and I’m not seeing anything suggested that really seems new and different from what we already have. Honestly has me just leaning towards Blitzball! lol but maybe some sort of explosive throwing weapon could be fun!

I debated putting Dueling/Thrusting Shields on the list but didn't know how well the idea would have been received or understood by those who haven't played Elden Ring. Plus they kind of competed with Dual-Shields, which has been on the poll since HW. ( っ´ω｀c)

Another kind of shield I had thought about was Lantern Shields but GLD/PLD already have them so they fall under the Preexisting Weapon's Subtype category.

I have been wanting some kind of Spell blade job in FFXIV for a while, something like Armamentalist from Dragon Quest

Where it is a sword-focused Melee Job that can cast Buffs and Debuffs but does not directly cast damaging spells.
Currently, MP in FFXIV is a severely underutilized mechanic and I think it would be cool to have a Melee DPS that uses MP somehow.
In my humble (correct) opinion its different enough from Red Mage to warrant its existence.

I agree nothing really fulfills the spellblade/mage knight fantasy quite yet, it's something I'd like myself. As for a weapon, a gauntlet sword was about the most distinct I could come up with that didn't step on anyone else's toes (except MNK, but there would be plenty of differences elsewhere)

The Only Sad Thing About this, is that there is already 6 Melee, and not everyone wants EVEN MORE melee.
[I for sure don't, but I won't tell you to not dream of such a class. It'd be a good one. but still too many melee.]

More so with other roles being kinda low in their numbers. Rn there's 4 tanks/healers/casters, and 3 ranged.

Would be nice to have a Dynamis Enhanced Melee or Caster tho. but still too many melee.

Personally, I think they could take the concept of Mystic Knight (i.e. imbuing elements and status effects spells onto weapons) and mix it with another weapon-based job, like Gunner for example.
Dual-pistols are popular after all, so just have the job use something like ammo to change the properties of some of their attacks. I may have an old job idea based on this concept sitting in my google docs started... °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°

As for gauntlet swords, we already have them in the forms of MNK's various Pata weapons and PLD's Lantern Shields. Granted, I think you could take those along with MNK's Katars and make them their own weapon-type. It was one of the reasons I created the Preexisting Weapon's Subtype category on the poll. (◍´͈ꈊ`͈◍)

I'm aware MNK has patas already, but I figure this hypothetical new Job would be distinct enough in that it 1) only uses one larger one, 2) uses it in a completely different fashion from MNK and, potentially, 3) might use a completely different gear type (Maiming, ideally? For the knight aesthetic) to further distinguish the two

2 handed giant shield for tank, Alchemist throwing healing bombs to allies for healer.

As for DPS, I'd like to see whips, dual guns (but like, proper guns, let MCH be the gadget job), dices, hammers and poles.
