I like how my character looks and my viera looked pretty much the same before I changed to hrothgar. The graphics got a decent boost in textures and lighting but it also doesn't seem like a significant boost to what we had before.

Since I started playing this game 1 changed only 1 thing on my character, which was the color of the scales to dark blue. I have not changed anything since than, not even the hair style. Nothing. I saw the same character for years, I got to love her looks and mood which is completely ruined now.
I can't even get myself to start the MSQ because my character will not be in the cut scenes.

It is utterly baffling to me how people can look at comparisons like these and go "i DoNt SeE tHe DifFeReNcE". Why is her mouth like 30% shorter horizontally? Why did they upturn her nose? Where is her eyeliner?
I'm with you. I had to stop playing MSQ so that I wouldn't have to see my new face in cutscenes. Hope the devs are happy about all the players who feel the same way.

Did my forum profile picture get like three times as much lighting as everybody else?
The reason you don't see that is because, in the game and on other social media, the majority of the community is psychotically opposed to anything negative being said about the game. Players have learned this, and a lot of us keep our mouths shut outside of the forums so that we don't get dogpiled for suggesting things should improve.
This is one of those things that different people will just see differently. When I see these comparison pictures, I feel like I'm doing one of those newspaper cartoons of the "find 6 differences between the photos" because to my eyes, there's nothing immediately obvious. In the screenshots Avina linked, the only one I was able to spot was the lips, and that's only because I was looking for differences. The nose I would have never noticed if you didn't point it out, and even with you mentioning the eyeliner, I still don't see it.
I do remember when WoW did its own graphics update, and yes, I noticed the changes in my character's face and it was off-putting at first. Once I came to accept that it's a video game and that's the way of it, though, it was more just the "not liking change" that really meant anything, and I got used to the new look fairly quick. If things like this are "completely ruining" someone's experience playing a video game, maybe it is time to step back for a bit and take a breather.
I've said this before and I'll say it again: if many or even most players don't notice the differences, that's all the more reason for them to make changes that will bring the faces back in line with their previous appearances, for the benefit those of us who do and are unhappy.
I think more then anything else there needs to be a way to totally disable the improved lighting/shadows because at present, I have to turn things down so much that the game actually looks worse then it did before but still don't get consistent 60 FPS in low traffic areas anymore.
