Okay, you are right. The purpose of DPS is to consume lots of tinctures and food even when they do not have to in order to fuel the in-game behemoth that is alchemy drug trading.

There is just so many things that english can do well, naming Damage Dealers as DPS is not one of them.

No name is the thing it refers to; it simply refers to it.

Yes, DD would be a more intuitive name for what that role does and the term would less get in the way of talking about damage-per-second as a cross-role metric, but we've clearly been able to work around its flaws just fine when using it as the signifier.
