Now your trying to turn the discussion specifically to me? People like you i would assume fear gear swaps because you didnt understand how to use them, those few that claim they "did fine" without them, simply did not, there is no way around it.
Atleast with comparing endgame with non-endgame people in 11, people using swaps and people not was very easy to tell, you would hit no stat caps, you would settle for a nobles body and light staff and have what... 28% cure potency or something? I had cure potency 50% (cap), -50% cure casting time (cap), as much fastcast equiped at the start of every single cast that could be found in the game, and as much mnd that could be added at the end of the cast without getting rid of cure potency, that is the difference between you and me, i knew my job, you believed you did.
But again, im assuming you did no endgame, or if you did... it wasnt "real" endgame. So you doing "well" would be fine for what you did.
But you didn't do fine without swapping. Difference in performance was very notable between someone who swapped and someone who didn't. Not to mention swaps led to stupid things like cure cheat macros, which I absolutely abhorred. It would be fine if there had been some passive buff that increased the effect gear had on you the longer you went without swapping, so that I could have bypassed the need to swap entirely. Alas, swappers won the game, people who didn't swap sucked and were gimp. All because the devs were too damn lazy to fix that oversight in design early on.
LOL oh wow did you really call me an RPer? That is rich... no really I love it... Also I have been using the cat line long before this game so it has nothing to do with my "character"... actually what it has to do with is the fact that after reading forums like these for so long I really really can't call my self a human... I don't fit in with the way you all think and I can actually think for myself where as you all follow a very nice script which I must as you are doing very well at.
Though I will say... nice sig :P
I would say something about something but meh I don't actually care all that much and I'm pretty sure gear swap will not be added in any time soon if ever... so I think I'll leave this thread before I lose braincells from the stupid it emits...
The cat is bemused =-.-=
I just dont see it as an oversight i guess, thats like compairing people that want to wear no gear to people that do, "why should i have to wear gear at all, the people that wear gear have an advantage and its obv. an oversight and should be fixed over all". You can trace that back asfar as you want, like "why should i have to log in, I pay for the game, i should just win".
Aye it really didn't take much to tell who was and wasn't utilizing swaps, and it really encouraged alot of script macros in order to optimally perform with gear, unless you happened to be very creative with macro setups (very few of which were).
To be perfectly honest even though the macro lists in FFXIV are much larger than in FFXI, I think script macros will still be created and abused like in FFXI once more situational gear becomes available. In my opinion it wouldn't be fair to implement a system that would eventually encourage cheating in order to compete in any environment, and at the same time we would actually have room in our inventories to carry gear for the other jobs we may use in a given situation instead of waiting 20 minutes for Jim to transfer 50 pieces of gear off his mule/retainer/storage so we could have a WHM for an event.
As the game is right now, yes it would take to long, and there is already gear lag when changing, but were not talking this second.
Saying scripting is an exploit/cheating... i guess in your terms your not wrong because it wasnt a default in the game, but SE added the gear into the game with no way to actually make use of it, without scripting you couldnt use 80% of the gear at any given time, it would be single sets of what is optimal at all times, cookie-cutter. kinda like pvp in 11, no gear swaps.
As i see it, the scripting made use of all that gear, SE just had a very very small macro system, it was what... 5 lines or something? Nobody ever got banned for using windower for the scripted macro's.
Why should they stress the ps2 anymore with something that the community already found a solution to on the comp (btw, the reason ff11 is the way it is now, with copied zone/gear and lack of new auto-translator and over-hauling of old events and basically turning them into abyssea is because the ps2 memory is full and they cant add new content) every single thing they added into the game as defaut stressed it more and would have to replace something else.
I've got gear macros now. Can't gear swap in active mode, but most mages don't play in active mode.
On my WHM, if I find its time to nuke, I often times get to cast several nukes, and its worth my time to put a +INT gear swap in all of them, because time to nuke once usually means time to nuke five or six times.
If I have to switch to start heal-dumping, I hit my macro for my +MND gear.
If I'm passing out buffs (usually only out of combat, to be honest) I have a gear swap macro for +VIT, too.
Gear swaps are already here - they're just not usable by everyone.
