Thank you for your reply. I was somewhat aware of the Machinist class but I honestly don't know much about them. I appreciate that you took time to fill in some of these details. If Machinist is the class that fulfills the role of selfish ranged physical DPS then I believe you are correct in thinking that we probably don't need another one. However, I am curious to know as to why they do less DPS than Black Mages. Do they have more vitality, or damage mitigation or more mobility?

MCH has 1 party-wide damage mitigation ability and that's all they have for support unless you count peloton. But all ranged physical DPS have the exact same damage mitigation ability with a different name. Other than that, MCH is "more mobile" than BLM since it can move around while shooting and doesn't have cast times. And unlike Samurai it doesn't do most of its work in the Danger Zone. How much of a DPS loss mobility and ranged provide is a little controversial though.

BRD and DNC do so much more to help the party out that there's basically no specific reason to take a MCH unless you like it. BRD can buff the party with 3 different songs that do different effects, as well as esuna in a pinch or throw an incoming healing potency buff on the tank. DNC can boost the whole group's DPS as well as one specific targeted party member full time. MCH is supposed to be "selfish" so it just has the one shield and it supposed to outdamage the other two in theory.

Right now DNC does the least amount of damage of the ranged physical DPS on a personal level but has a lot of support, with BRD supposed to be in the middle since they can support but I'm not sure if it's worked out that way. If they were to add a new ranged physical DPS, I don't know how they would balance it or what it could do different that would be actually impactful in Savage without breaking it or becoming redundant. It seems like Savage is where SE balances their jobs so anything new or any changes need to make sense from that standpoint.

Fun fact: The artist for Vampire Hunter D is the same artist that does the artsy-art for the Final Fantasy games (the title cards, etc).

The Warrior of Light boss and Omega F/M are directly based on his style.

Not a far stretch to have a VHD-esque job.

I wouldn't mind a proper archer type class as a more mundane option. I really just want more mundane class fantasy options with less... extravagance. I will always go back to City of Heroes as a game that did "just archery" well because it had a nice blend of varied arrow types like Green Arrow had and also mixed bow attacks from quick shots to snipes. It all felt good because the animations and sound effects had proper weight to them and didn't make you feel like Legolas.

I think such a class could be replicated well enough maybe with the addition of some magical arrows or beast companion attacks, but it wouldn't need to go too overboard or lose the core of your Job which is that you shoot people with a bow very well.

Limsa seems like a suitable place to add the starter quest for another bow job.

Could see another job that uses crossbows. If they ever add vampires could see crossbow using job as a vampire hunter or call it monster hunter.
