Healers contribute roughly 60% of the highest ranked DPS. That is hardly a small amount. In fact, back in Shadowbringers, it was statistically impossible to clear E8S and E12S without significant healer DPS for the first several weeks. Even E11S wouldn't be doable week 1.

Simply put, healers focus so much on DPS nowadays because there's literally nothing else for them to focus on. Outgoing damage is far too low, rendering a good portion of their kits as overkill. Healer mains have been asking for more damage or buffs/debuff management and have been told "no" due to it making things too difficult for casual players. Therefore, all they have is an incredibly dull DPS "rotation". Blame the dev team for this mindset not the players adapting to it.

I just don't see that. I see very few healers that only do one thing.

I do see a lot of healers who will let us wipe rather than use LB3, and I see healers that seem to never use their rez unless it's a hard cast.

But I see very few that only DPS or only heal.

Also worth noting that a lot of healers feel the need to heal stuff RIGHT NOW OMG GOTTA GET FULL HP EVERYONE IS DYING. They never give the cohealer time to leverage their hots, wait for a skill to come off CD, etc. etc.. Generally what happens is if a panicky "heal now" healer shows up, the co-healer might just let them solo heal everything since the panic healer is constantly overwriting their stuff or topping people up before their stuff comes off cd. I've honestly seen that scenario more often than the healer that doesn't heal (which I've only had one of so far this expansion). But I'm sure that if you're the panic healer in this scenario, you'll feel very lonely and your experience will pretty much be that of the OP

Then remove the healer jobs and add some NPC that can only cast ;

1) AOE heal
2) Single heal
3) Mana regen.

The NPC could be added as a 9th player.

Gambling with people's lives is literally part of the fun. It becomes a game of how low can I keep them without them dying and still dps? You learn that ok, no unavoidable damage is coming for a while so they don't need topped up, they can wait till my ogcd comes back off cd. If they mess up a mechanic and die that's on them, even then if I see the f up about to happen and KNOW they will die I will heal them to prevent the death as that is a loss of rdps for the party. The only hp that matters is the last one, knowing when we can ignore and keep spamming that dps is some of the little fun we healers have left.
Idc how my healer dmg matches up vs the other jobs, I care how I rate vs others in the same job that are also min maxing! As well as my past self ofc, always want to improve.

That's so true too. Especially as some of the shields like Sage's euk prog are 230% of the amount healed. If there is nothing to heal because of a panicky healer, then there is no real mitagation a SGE can apply when it's going to be needed.

50% is nice and comfortable for most people's HP as long as they avoid the bad stuff on the ground. 20% is about my minimum, 100% HP is less great.

The funny thing is that if they made healers have to heal more 90% of the playerbase couldn't do it.
