My best advice ...
...stay off the forums. Game forums are little more than cesspools of whining and complaining.

A game where they've literally set it up where there's a multitude of 'shard' like worlds - which all have their own mess going on? Yeah, we got years buddy.
I'd say at least 5/6
it's just a shame this seems to be the place the devs listen to the most probably.
Also Yoshida mentioned he was working on a new project and has been mentioning about the current games limitations often, mayhap it's time for a new mmo in the next 2 years? That of course doesn't mean XIV will die, just will likely recieve love and support like XI still does and I imagine XI might get the axe depending, who knows I guess.
Just ignore almost every complaint thread you see in the forums people have a tendancy to nitpick thier way through every little thing they can. Bottom line is people arent happy unless they're unhappy and people in the forum tend be the most unhappy of the unhappy. as for how much longer... easily 8 more years at a reasonable estimate.
Ok since no one has said it.
Over 9000!
I say 5 years before it sees any real drastic fall off. But if they do a graphic update. It could easily go another 10 years.
If that's the lifeline to stretch the game...
Then best not look at the rate those shards have gone. With 7 of the 13 total shards having been rejoined and an additional one was engulfed by darkness and became the void.
Meaning, there's literally only 5 shards remaining. Sure, we fix one of them in ShB... But how long until the Ascians cause another Calamity and rejoin another world?
(Also, apparently ShB will be ending the 1.0 story. Whether or not this means like, Ascians and rejoinings, we'll soon find out I guess)
