Viera Feet - Aren't they supposed to be digitigrade?

And if the dev-investment is to high for that, thats okay! So... I feel sorry for everyone who cant look at their character and be happy with what they've created...
I never really understood why people are requesting more and more races to be added to begin with - is adding a new race per expansion something WoW did and now people think of it as a standard for MMOs? To me it often feels like they just want options for options sake and will ignore 95% of them... a bit how I buy 5 different types of sweets only to have to throw half of them away in the end because they've gone bad (but I wanted the options at home!)

this is very much how I see it.

This is NOT the norm. There are 3 "big AF" MMOs on the market today. One of which is GW2, a B2P game that will NEVER add a new race ... and one of which is WoW, a game with graphics designed to run on a toaster.

And on top of that there are many smaller but successful MMOs out there that also don't bother with new races. Games like Tera and B&S actually have real "gender/ race lock" ... as in you can't play a job if you're not the allowed gender or race.

So yeah, it's not really reasonable to expect races added over and over.

Once the Expansion hits and we get to actually experience the world with these races I do plan to make a nice long post about the smart decisions in how these races are implemented. For example, the topic at hand. Yoshi expressed worry over adding in Viera because they have such a "high heel". Welp, the solution to that? Make a nice pair of HQ Fran shoes they can wear and leave it like that. You can either wear the Fran shoes (which can prob go with any glam, casual or not) if you want that look to your feet or wear some of the nice high heel options they added to the game OR just have flats.

If they were digitigrade they wouldn't wear heels since heels support the heel of a plantigrade foot.

Quick edit. Here is an image that helps illustrate where the mistake is being made. The request for digitigrade feet proposes they have feet and leg bones positioned like the dog and the high heel supports the end of the blue colored bone.

Its not that I dont get that, dont get me wrong! More options are always nice, but let me try to explain a bit better what I had in mind when writing that (this might go a bit pfftopic, apologies in advance!)

Your example (red nails) is a specific request, something you would consider a nice addition to your character and are therefor requesting (its also a rather small request, one that doesnt require several thousand gear-pieces to be adjusted, but thats not the mainpoint). You know what you want and you want that specific thing. Thats something that seems fair and reasonable to me.

The people I were thinking off are the type who just points out that we got less of something. The people who were upset that we got no new races with Stormblood - they didnt care that we didnt get Viera or any other specific race, they simply expressed an issue with no new race at all. Its the people who dig back into HW-patch-notes to point out that we got two new hairstyles with 3.X but only got one new one with 4.X! They dont request a specific hairstyle to be added, they just count how many we got.
Those complains that only look at the quantatiy but not the "quality" of something thats being added (or not added) are the ones I was thinking of when I said "options for options sake". They dont care what those options are, they just care that they're there.

Please, please note that I'm not saying that everyone is like that, by far not! And I'm not even saying that I dont understand them - its nice having this feeling that you could do so much (more) with your character. But at the same time I cant help but wonder: Is this really the big deal people make it out to be? Did you had less fun in Stormblood because you couldnt change to a newly introduced race on day one? Is the addition of only one instead of two hairstyles really what makes or breaks the game?
And I get that for someone people its stuff thats piling up and that getting only one hairstyle might be the straw that broke the camels back - but if you (hypothetical you) are one of those people: How happy were you in the game anyways?

Options are nice, playing with your characters look is a huge part of the game for many people, I'm not denying that. But if something like not having diditigrade feet or "just any new race I dont care which one" makes or breaks the game for you, I dont know what to say...

Viera feet are fine as is /end thread.

Oh, now I see what you mean. It's like when some people complain about the lack of male Viera or female Hrothgar when they have zero intention to play as one or even make a retainer like that. I get that people sympathize with other players but it often comes across as if they are personally impacted by these things.

Shadowbringers appears to have a lot of cosmetic features which I've seen requested over the years. A beast race, long straight hair which isn't tied up, sexy high heels, revealing armor, tall females with normal proportions, body tattoos, a race which is very easy to make look good with a dark skin (Rava is lovely) and also Ronso and Viera both have been specifically asked for. It makes me feel like the devs are paying attention and catering to many of our wishes.

Yeah, a bit like that - though I want to add that its not what they say, but how they say it sometimes (the simple difference between "I generally support adding male Viera and female Hrothgar, even though I'm not intrested in playing one but I can understand that others might want to" and "OMG we didnt even get two full races, the game is DEAD to me now!!!" - specially when the later comes from someone who apparently has no intention of race-changing anyways).

And I agree - and would like to add that no matter what they do, people will be upset. I feel so bad for Yoshi-P having to make that call...
Add no new race? Same outcry we had with Stormblood.
Add only Viera? People will complain that its another pretty/skinny/elegant/cute race thats basically humans with animal-parts glued on instead of adding a more unique or beastly race (not what I personally think Viera are, but what I've seen other people mention when argueing against adding Viera)
Add only Hrothgar? Look forward to the "WHERE ARE MY VIERA?!"-crowd
Add both new races with only one gender each? Pretty much what we've got right now...
Add both races with both genders? Watch how people STILL dont like what they've got. I've seen every request for male Viera-designs so far - from lalafell-tiny to elezen-tall, from skinny to muscular to outright beast-like... seriously, no matter what they do wether or not they add male Viera and how they add them... people will be upset that the Viera we get look the way they do...

All the devs can do is lose - or ignore 99% of whats being asked for and just pick the things they either had in mind already or really like.
Call me naive, but I trust them to make the right calls - specially when it comes to the (aesthic) design of the game. Please the crowd with every decision is something they can never achieve anyways...

The diagram is a great reference, but I don't think it's proof that Viera couldn't have been digitigrade because of the leg proportions.

Ultimately it just means they permanently walk on their toes with the heel off the ground, which is still possible with human-like leg proportions. The concept art for male Viera showed them in this position, not wearing heeled footwear but standing in a more natural digitigrade position. (As opposed to the females, who do stand like humans wearing high-heels.)

Like you can have your opinion about what you like ok. But the team worked extreme hard on this stuff. And I’m absolutely sick of hearing people complain to the dev team to do better when they are doing a very damn fine job.

Yea not everything is perfect. But this whole thread is complaining about a MYTH, the new races are incredibly accurate to their source material, and do them more justice then frankly we deserve. And yes it’s not perfect, and there are many improvements to be made

But calling the team LAZY, seriously learn some respect people. You have NO idea how much work goes into this just to make us happy. Then all people do is complain.

You can input your opinion but do it without mistaking your opinion for “facts”.
