Ok, well if that is how you wanna look at it than how does it still have less cores? you could clarify the cell as 1 core and quad core as 1 core, which means they are both equal. don't stress out dude its a game.

3.2 GHZ one core but it has1 ppe and 7spe's (1 is reserved for the os) = official specs from sony, unless u think sony is wrong?

also i wouldn't recommend googling things, theres alot of crap out on the internet that is wrong.

Those plus 7 are the SPE's a cell has one processor if the cell has 1 + 7 that would make it an octo core.

SPEs are also processors. That's why they are called Synergistic Processing Elements. GPUs have many cores and modern CPUs have many cores. A Cell Processor is made of a main element (PPE) and seven sub elements (SPE). A quadcore A9 is instead made of 4 main elements. So yes the Cell is an octocore.

ok lets just go that way with it than i guess, it isn't actually 1+ 7 its 1+8 since the slim model came out which would make it 9 than.

Yet Sony do that to make more money and control memory card sales rather than "fight" piracy. If piracy is the issue, then they may to reconsider their stupid marketing strategy. Selling games like Lumines $40 on a handheld console nowadays is just retarded... When next to that, you get iOS offering you tons of similar fun puzzle game for less than $9.99 for 99% of them.

The average consumer is not willing to pay that much anymore for handheld gaming, unless it has a real added value compared to what you can play on your phone/iDevice.

Regarding PSP, it's just as easy to hack a PSP than jailbreak an iDevice. Yet tons of games are being sold on the appstore everyday. Why? Because consumers judge that prices asked for these games are fair. Paying $0.99~$9.99 is fine. Paying $40 isn't.

Some companies realized that, and rather than adding stupid DRMs and stuff in their game, they have been lowering their day one MSRP (SEGA sold Sonic Generations on PC at $20 on Steam, at launch...). Steam sales is the perfect example of what customers wants. Games, at lower price. And actually a LOT of people are willing to pay. Including those who could pirate these game easily (I'm one of them, got a 50mbps line, newsgroup access, I can literally get any PC game within minutes) yet I am still spending $ when I consider that the price is right (Sonic Generations, Dungeons Defender, etc.).

The gaming industry is just walking on the same path as the music industry. Blaming pirates for everything.

They disable the 8th though. And the 7th is used for copy protection I think. The Vita also can use only 3 cores for games. The 4th is for copy protection and the OS.

One is used for copyright, another for the OS and another for the Fan.

Thats the main difference between a spe and a cpu, a cpu can do anything if given the data and commanded to do it. a spe is specifically programed to handle just one task. like shadows. the ps3 has one processor core but 7 little friends and he needs to make a shadow for a character in game. but he gets it and goes "hey one of my friends specilizes in making shadows and hes not doing anything, plus theres something else after this i need to do so ill have him make the shadow while i do the next thing." The cpu can make a shadow but what if the thing after making a shadow is rendering something? than it will take twice as long cause the cpu can't pass it off to the spe because the only thing the spe can do is make shadows.

Very few PS3 games run at 60 FPS, most run at 30-40FPS. So it's actually possible that it could/can run at 60 FPS if they realistically optimize it enough to do so, but most companies opt against 60 FPS on the PS3 not out of laziness or lack of skill, you can make a damn good looking game run at 30 FPS, only shooters tbh need as many frames a possible.

I can see FFXI on Vita but not FFXIV, I think some people dream way to big -.- I don't care how amazing the vita is, it is still a portable gaming system, and not suitable hardware wise for a MMORPG (a "new" one at least) Besides even if FFXIV could be on Vita, it would be limiting the game even more then it just being PS3/PC -.-
