Should i stop taking crap from people and just start reporting?

How is that even a question? Can I report someone for verbally abusing me? Yes, of course you can. I honestly don't understand why anyone would need to come to a form of any kind to ask whether they can report someone for that.

I don't think the whole holding a fate thing is irrelevant since it was that which precipitated the confrontation. Context is everything, without that context there would have been no verbal altercation.

Skyfall Book I, Quartz Coupling FATE in Eastern Thalanan. I stood at the spawn location in those annoying tunnels for close to two hours, specifically because I wanted to be sure I got that FATE done. Yes, people do in fact sit on top of a quest spawn and wait, sometimes for hours.

My 2nd MMO ever was EQ1...and anyone who played it knows waiting two hours for a spawn is small change, easy peezy.

Nobody is required to hold your spawn for you, and had you come at with me with that "why didn't you do my bidding" nonsense, chances are about 50-50 I'd have gotten salty with you as well. For all you know, they had camped it for two hours and weren't in the mood to wait or to share.

Report them. I get you don't have to wait for people but you also don't have to be a child about it.

Ok let me explain that a bit differently, maybe make it somewhat funny so we all can get on the same page.

Let's take a real life situation. Disclaimer: please I do not support violence, neither do I think it's funny, before that becomes a part of the discussion. I am using this example just as an reference on how in specific situations, people might believe they are right but they are not and how it would look to someone from the outside (3rd party).

You arguing with your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife in the bathroom (I am not going to write kitchen or bedroom because people might end up blaming me for being sexist or using stereotypical examples based on gender), the situation escalates and after your bf/gf/spouse said something hurtful, you snapped and slapped him/her in the face. He/She doesn't take that lightly and does the same to you.

Now you asking yourself, can or should I call the police, because in the state of mind you're in at that current time (not clearly thinking and frustrated) this would be the logical thing to do, correct?

Anyways, it occurs that a friend comes over and all of you want an neutral opinion on the situation itself, as well as a solution on how this should be handled.

Now the friend says, well the bathroom is for showering and taking a crap, y'll could have cleaned that room too because it's filthy.

You and your partner looking at the friend and say, you're missing the point here, it's not about the location (in this example the bathroom) it could have happen in any other room or even outside.

A neutral friend would have said something down the line, while you can call the police, there's is not much that can be done about that, because you both were wrong. He/She should have not hurt you, you should have not slapped him/her etc. The officer would probably give both of you a warning and tell you not to do that anymore, unless both of you want to file a report on assault. Which wouldn't apply in this case even so it was a physical encounter but on both sides. It would just clock up the juristic system but the outcome would be the same at the end, if it's even taken that far.

Now let's look at the game situation, and you're making a good point here, asking why would that even be a question. Well, because maybe in this situation the OP felt that he/she didn't do anything wrong, or might not know if he/she is interpreting the situation correctly, hence coming to the forum and asking, before filling an report.

But what everybody is pointing out is the wrong doing of the OP, siding with the other party in this case, basing it on the location which was a fate, and that's irrelevant.
Not the OP's and other parties behavior is irrelevant of course and I pointed that out prior, both parties were in the wrong, both need to learn to respect each other.

But would it be possible to report that person? Yes it would be, however a GM would look at that and based on the chat log give all parties involved a warning, or tell both sides to blacklist each other and move on (most likely the case). This case would not fall under the category of harassment and therefore it wouldn't be handled as that by a GM. It would be a whole different story if that would have been occurred.

Now this topic wasn't meant to side with either OP or the other party, just a question for whatever reason, made by the OP, with a little insight of the context, nobody ever mentioned that this won't matter, because clearly that's a part of the whole "do I have a leg to stand on?" discussion here.

But again the location where it took place (the fate) doesn't matter and is irrelevant because it could have happen in the middle of limsa, for all that matters. Both parties weren't respectful to each other (OP with confronting the person, other person snapping at him/her or other party snapping at OP prior and he/her responding in a none respectful way) Either way, that was the whole point and question of the topic nothing else.

The question was not, am I entitled to ask people to stop a fate and if not, can I go and yell at them or can I report them for not doing tho?

We also assuming that since the OP used the word "confronted" the other party, that this might have been the trigger of the rudeness. We all weren't there, maybe it was a misuse of the word or maybe it wasn't but regardless He/She wanted a neutral opinion or somebody pointing out the rules/tos of the game and how to handle this kind of situations in the near future.

And that's what some of us did, while others keep riding on the fate (location) that has nothing to do with the actual situation, it is still wrong on both sides regardless where this event occurred, but not something a GM needs to look at because it isn't a breach of ToS or whatever else was speculated, if it ended there.

Now if the other party or the OP would have followed that person around, making zone chats that's insulting to the other person involved, intentionally phrased sentences that avoid the triggering of the profanity filter (example: writing and calling the F/B word but all spaced out between letters), creating new characters or changing names of the current character to something insulting towards that person, railing up your friends and telling them to go and message the OP/or other party etc, that would fall under the category of harassment.

Again, while this topic might have been frustrating to the OP as well as maybe the other party, it can ruin peoples gaming time and some don't think about that, if you run into somebody that puts you into a bad mood, there's not much or nearly nothing that can be done. It would fall under the category of being "just" rude, and while that's wrong on a complete different aspect (manners, morale, misbehaving etc), it sadly doesn't fall under any category a GM would issue a perm ban, temp ban on, and even shouldn't.

I am sorry for the block of text, but some people constantly pull phrases out of context and argue about something that wasn't even mentioned once, or don't read the whole part, just for the sake of arguing, blaming others for their opinion that's different from the ones they are having, leading to a complete different argument/discussion, and I am tired of that.

All of these peoples saying OP shouldn't have confronted or is entitled, lol. Take a step back and breathe. Confronting has a somewhat negative stigma/connotation to this situation, but why? It's just a choice of diction. Calm down. Give OP benefit of the doubt maybe since he was only trying to inquire why person did what they did. As for what OP should do, if you're certain that you've been civilized then by all means report them. The button is there for a reason and no one should put up with toxicity like that for no apparent reason.

I do realize that the tone of how OP may have asked in may have offended the opposite party cuz interwebs, but there's no reason to throw out choice words like that.

You definitely can, but you asked us our opinion if you should, and I don't think you should if it's just one instance, exception being if it escalates to harassment.

This community has a petty obsession with punishing other players for every minimal thing when we already have ways to deal with single isolated cases. I don't think playing the chat police and actively trying to get people banned is going to improve your server community.

As far as I know, FATEs are first come, first served. If you can get get it, go grind it until you complete it or KO. If you run out of time, don't worry about it, make what you can. In the past, I did this for the GC seals, but with the disciples of the hand and land missions offering more, I don't do it as often since I am currently a Serpent Corporal and need to work more on my Log. But that's how I see it.

And YET another person who failed to

I don't worry about other gamers because I believe that if I treat someone like garbage, I should be treated the same. If I need to report, it is my choice and I don't make a fuss about it, I do it.

Thoughts;

Why weren't you just camping once FATE so you were guaranteed at least one especially when you hit over the one hour mark?
You know how many times that happened to me in 2.0 (where I was running to a fate and then it just started going down. I just moved on..)
I'm sure most have been called far worse in some way or another. Consider he may of just called you that because you kept poking him about it. I don't know his mindset and exactly what was said between you two. This is only one side to the story. Whether what he said was right or not; that's up to each individuals opinion.
I'm shocked at the lack of backbone. I would of just shrugged and moved on. Life is too short like Serilda said.
