they had 2 years to hit 50 so its not a valid excuse why they haven't completed the story by now.

im going to agree with everyone else and say no
its an mmo people the crafting/gathering in ffxiv may be more well developed than in almost any other mmo but thats all it is
a means to create items yourself
its not that hard to go do the bare minimum requirements for ishgard
For all the similarities between FFXI and FFXIV there is one thing they don't share.
FFXI is not a themepark MMO. Its has the light trappings of one but... it is not one. Its a Sandbox MMO. You can do whatever you want save for a few things that are locked by Level and what ever light story progress it had.
FFXIV is on the rails, a Themepark MMO. Everything is derived from the story line. Exploring and everything in it is limited to the boundaries it has set.
If you want to make comparisons use WoW. Its a Themepark, but its not on the rails like FFXIV is. Only thing limiting WoW expac content is level.
Also they said anyone who is doing the MSQ in 3.0 will have an even easier time doing it because it will give higher exp, give out more powerful gear and lower difficulty on some trails which should make it a breeze getting to 3.0 areas. So I don't see why anyone is complaining about having to do the MSQ.
Which still required you to be Rank 3 in your nation, unless you bought your Tenshodo invite. (Even if you did, it still required someone else to be rank 3 so they could quest it.)
Since you want to equate Aht Urhgan with Ishgard, let's also consider this. You STILL wouldn't want to go to AU as a new character since everything in that expansion is designed around a level 75 character. This trend continued with Wings of the Goddess and Seekers of Adoulin. You still need to be capped out in order to fully enjoy the expansion's missions and endgame. Yes, there may have been exp parties in those areas, but they weren't newbie friendly either.
Yes, it's an expansion. However, it's an expansion for a game based around being at the level cap.
I absolutely hope they require Main Story completion up to 3.0 for access to Heavensward. I'm confused by the hand wringing over new players not wanting to experience the entire first half of the game. If they're so put out by it, maybe this isn't the game for them?
