The old music is still there, but in different areas. There are new tracks in all three starter regions; only Thanalan's original theme remained in it's new place. La Noscea's old theme plays in the higher level areas; same with The Black Shroud's. The new theme for Thanalan plays in the higher level areas. Otherwise, the lower-level areas play Thanalan's main theme and La Noscea's and The Black Shroud's new theme.

It sounds to me like they were in a rush to get it out, not like some of the event music in the past.

It's not rushed at all. This was part of the original soundtrack that was present in the game ever since launch, and was used as part of the Ul'dah opening scene. I, for one, think it's wonderful that they're actually USING some of the tracks that were present for like....what, 10 seconds of the opening scene?...and putting them in-game for us to enjoy.

Different tastes, different opinions. I think it's rather bombastic (pun intended), but it fits well with the event and festive feeling. Certainly, watching the fireworks go off in Limsa Lominsa fits well with the music.
