Why don't Paladins have any unique "Cures"

Gonna quote this in hopes of helping people understand. Our PLD is not a D&D paladin thatb is devoted to a god and makes miracles happen through their faith. Our PLD is not a warcraft paladin that turns faith into holy light to heal wounds and turn undead to ashes while wielding a really big hammer. Our PLD is a knight that is conceived around the idea of an elite protector.

Nice job quoting me without the context. The key word there was "with current (FFXIV) content design", not other games. Tanks are assumed to participate in Raid DPS, you know, do damage. If they're healing, defending and so on, they're not doing DPS, and thus will be a liability for DPS checks. Someone has to make up the missing DPS. So either you drop one healer for another dps class to cover it, or the tank has to also buff up the party damage to make up for it.

This has been both mechanically and flavorfully true of "Paladin" characters in FF games in general. They have access to white magic but it's mostly for minor, out of combat utility and their true focus is on being damn good at melee combat, protection, and their class letting them use holy weapons that others can't (e.g., Excalibur).

Also, in basically most FF games that have been made "Knight" was typically localized to "Paladin". FF1 is a noteworthy exception, where Fighters get a job upgrade to the "Knight" class that gives them better stats, a very limited package of White Magic to help deal with random encounter attrition, access to Excalibur, and...yeah that's pretty much it.

If you read Ishgardian lore, you know that every house's Guard is made up of Knights. Even their shields have their house logo. The Coliseum is attached to the Gladiator's guild, where warriors from all over come to prove themselves.

Rage of Halone is a Gladiator Skill, not a PLD Job skill. It could have been adopted by the guild if it was proven and tested in the Coliseum. Where an Ishgardian is more than welcome to participate in and where the name most likely came from.

Also if I remember version 1.0's lore, Lulusu at the Colosseum during the original 1.0 GLA class quests stated that Rage of Halone was a special skill originally used by the infamous roegadyn GLA Greinfarr (which was also known as 'the lost blade technique') - it was his special move that became synonymous with him.

So the actual name doesn't need to have any connection to the Guild at all, it was simply a name a specific character gave to that attack, and it became known by that moniker from then on.

So you have an actual healer healing for over 1k, caster DPS healing for ~400 hp and PLD healing for 200-250 HP.

And you realize that a difference in 200 healing point is useless when both are really low, right? and mages are squishy unlike paladins. And still, it's useless trying to heal even with those 30% traits.

Well if they can adapt a technique named after a deity from another GLA then they can also adapt cures from the old THM guild or their travels to Gridania. Besides Paladins/Knights have always been able to use Cure and Cura since FF1.

Checkmate non Cureists.

Just because knights were able to use healing spells from previous games doesn't mean they were all good at it.

Beatrix from FF9 was a knight and a healer, but her MP was laughably low. Steiner can't even use magic but he's the strongest knight in the whole game.

The Paladin in FFXIV feels very close to what Knight/Paladin have always been in the Final Fantasy. A heavily armored defender with vestigial healing ability. You were never healing with a Knight/Paladin during a fight and getting ahead. Their spells were meant to be used to conserve White Mage magic slots or MP during dungeon crawls.

So no, this isn't a new thought or idea that was never asked. It was, reasons were posted.
