I'd make Ranger a separate class from Archer altogether. There's no reason to fix what isn't broken.

I think nin(possibly nin->assassin or the other way around) guild will be in Mor Dhona and I'm guessing samurai(it will be either nin/mrd or nin/pld) will be the same building really. They will be with their own people in Mor Dhona. THF will be Thancred but I'm guessing Thugs or Rogues will be in Limsa as the fraternity/brotherhood(as the CS implies). I'm still expecting another healing job in Mor Dhona based on this to even all the cities.
Then in Coerthas expecting Ranger job to become available and possibly beastmaster(hey you have behe and dragons there so why not).
I agree, Bards may be support but they have such decent aoe and damage that a Ranger class would just seem superfluous. I'm expecting that the Archer secondary job is likely to be Beastmaster as the bowman with a beast companion is such a staple. Of course, they could buck the trend and give Beastmaster to the axe wielding marauder to shake things up a little. Would be cool. :P
Without having much of a clue about how the job system could change in the future, I personally see the classes playing out a bit like this:
Thief --> Ninja/Blue Mage
Musketeer --> Corsair/Machinist?
Lancer --> Dragoon/Dark Knight
Archer --> Bard/Beastmaster
Gladiator --> Paladin/Red Mage
Marauder --> Warrior/Rune Fencer?
Pugilist --> Monk/Dancer
Conjuror --> White Mage/Geomancer
Thaumaturge --> Black Mage/Time Mage?
I keep reading about Ehrmahgerd GEOMANCER. Why is everyone so stuck on it?
