That makes no sense. Kain used spears, all named Spear or Lance, and Kain was the third dragoon to make an appearance -- FF2's Ricard Highwind and FF3's Dragoon both wielded spears as well. Moreover, while we call the class Lancer in FFXIV for whatever reason, lances are a mounted weapon and lancers are cavalry. Chalk it up to translators taking excess liberties with naming, as the Japanese name apparently amounts to spear specialist.

Except it didn't have any additional effect as a Paladin. Cecil never had any abilities at all related to the shield, and there has never been a shield in his animations whether Dark Knight or Paladin. The shield was always a stat stick in FF4, and shields didn't even display in any capacity.

There is a lot from the trailers not realized ingame, you know. That aside, having a two-handed sword job does not mean Dark Knight, especially when Dark Knight does not traditionally use said weapons. If you're going by appearances, then Red Mage from FF12 International could wield greatswords, and Knight/Paladin has the most appearances with the weapon (11-12i-TA-TA2).

Players seem to care so much about being true to classic ff games yet they just like FFXIV because it plays more like some other popular mmo I shall not name, with just FFXI graphics.

My point is that Kain also had access to shields. It is rather convenient to say that Dark Knight should use a sword and shield based off of Cecil, but leave out that Dragoon should also be using a shield and a lance.

Tell me if im wrong, but wasn't the skill Cover not affected by shield strength in FF4?

I will give you that alot of stuff in the trailers has yet to be realised. But one thing alot of people forget is that we need more classes. A Greatsword wielding, Dark Knight becoming class/job would be welcome. The last thing we need is a sword and shield using class/job like gladiator or paladin as I don't think many would like it if they already had Dark Knight to 50.

I would rather not use a farmer's tool as my main weapon as a Dark Knight.

Why not have Dark Knight use both 2H swords AND Scythes?

I prefer 2H swords myself, I also prefer if it were a tanking class akin to a Blood Death Knight in WoW utilizing diseases, etc to debuff targets and AOE tank....

IT would be nice if this game had "minimal" customizing with respects to your character development and have a reason to have stats differ on say a Scythe to a 2H sword for a single class.

My brother and I agree with you Tanama. Since the very first trailer of XIV he has been wanting his Dark Knight. I very much want him to be able to play alongside me as a job he enjoys with the weapon he loves.

I'm sorry but this statement is not true. Its ok if you dont like the fact it has support stuff, but
the job has had support stuff since FF1. nulspells, protect, silence, focus, confuse, haste, hold
sleep, sleepra, slow, slowra, temper ..... come on, the first FF game, and you want to tell me
it never had support stuff.

Like I said, RDM has a polarizing effect, and you obviously want to hold onto a rdm that might
be different than what others want. We will ALL want different things out of red mage, SE
will not be able to please everyone.

EDIT: and a class/job can have support without it having to be the defining feature.

EDIT2: and I hope people read this - the reason SE won't be able to please everyone is because
it has to fit into a role of healer or DD. There is no support,mix, or choice roles atm.

im voting greatsword because Scythe's are overrated and also only used in 1 instance of darkknights, all other versions used a type of sword and possible shield.

this game is NOT final fantasy 11, everything does not need to be 100% copypasted.
