Lol, and the point of a forum is to discuss stuff... Presumably when you're either bored or concerned about a topic. Here, most of us are probably bored, though the OP seems pretty concerned.

Did this thread really happen?
@ OP: sounds like you think raiding isnt possible with just 1 party, wich is complete bull.
Raiding can be done even with 2 people minimum, it's still a party. (even thou now it's possible to do BC heroics as Solo)
Raiding a dungeon only with 1 or 2 people is still a "Raid" in my book.
Anywayz, FFXIV "Raid" or whatever the endresult will be called is
to define a type of game-mechanic, nothing else.
Just like when some of us saying we want MH, instead of using the proper word "Housing".
BOTH dnugeons/raids got their own specific name...
Not to mention that you have to finish a quest(questline maybe, not just one) to be able to enter those dungeons/raids...so my guess is, there is a really high chance there is some kind of lore, or story involved...
But I guess your lil rant completely ignored the actual information we got so far...ever heard of "The thousand maws of Toto-Rak", or "The Dzemael Darkhold"?? Prolly not, since you don't know those are the names of the 2 dungeons/raids...but whatever...
ridiculous
Thats right this isn't wow, but terms like dungeons and raids are mmo terms not wow terms. What the poster is trying to say is 8 man dungeons is cool, but it isn't a raid. If yoshi expects 8man dungeons to be the end game of xiv then he should just be warned he'll lose all of his western players. Meaning the game will only have Japanese players. Meaning the game will die faster then someone can say lik a somboody.
Impossible. Everyone else has to be wrong. Raid means 7,280,200 people only. When you raid your pantry for snacks you must bring 80 other people with you. When you raid the fridge you ABSOLUTELY have to have 910 people including 2 tanks.
I will NOT stand for SE misusing the word!!!
>.>
Really though, it's damn silly a word that has multiple ways of being used is a debate. It's why English being a "universal" language is silly because a lot of other languages have only 1 meaning for words or more straightfoward.
I agree with NoMX, I'm gonna go to a computer nerd and ask "hey want a cookie?" Guarantee I'll get the response "YOU DON'T EAT COOKIES THEY'RE A FILE THAT STORES YOUR SETTINGS *adjust glasses*."
The reason these don't have "specific" names, is because they aren't part of a lore, they're generic underground dungeons (what real dungeons are, you know, holes in the wall/ground/under a castle? lol.) If it was tied too "A time rip caused a portal that allowed you entrance to the alternate reality of current (area) and said reality is known as Abyssea." Then you can bet it would be called something other than "dungeon".

It's being nitpicky and WOW-phobic to the extreme. Seriously, what's next? Not going to call the future mail system, "mail system" because that's what WOW uses? Not calling quests, "quest" because WOW uses that term too?
The irony, too, is that FFXI had several activities that had very generic names and nobody was bothered by it. Assault? Generic. Missions? Generic. Campaign? Generic.
theyre trying to seem hip but they're just squares.
