I think the tempo is perfectly fine. My favourite battle system of any FF game was FFX, turn based. Don't get me wrong I love fast paced sometimes but I think the game is good right now.

^This. If anything it's too fast. FFXIV is not a button-mash-fest, nor will it ever be. For those expecting this, then FFXIV is not for you I'm sorry to say.
Of course the battle system can use some little tweaking (mostly to do with the reliance on avoiding AoE and giving a more random scripting of enemy abilities), but it's nowhere the snooze fest that it's made out to be.
Incidentally it's clear that whoever said FFXIV is 'too slow' has never played FFXI - that literally was so slow you could put your character on autoattack and walk away (in fact, there was some content that literally favoured this, such as wallbashing fortresses in Campaign). FFXIV is an autobahn compared to FFXI's slow dirt road by comparison.
GCD could be a little faster.. but more importantly, make off the GCD skills more responsive.. really feels clunky to mash off-the gcd skills just to make them work
i Read a lot of complaning on 2.5 second GCD. The fact remains, we're level 50. we havnt even hit the first expansion, let alone the first level cap increase, we will see more Skill speed, in greater amounts from more gear as we level up, our GCD will drop slowly as we level up.
Expecting this game to be 100% Battle capped at level 50 is a bit redicuklous, espesially with SE, they have proven in their MMO's that they do increase the Cap >..> So before you go all Psycho ranting about GCD this and GCD that, just..wait, youll get your cap increase, youll start seeing Faster actions.
And like stated before, espesially MNK, with 1.98 Sec GCD, i run outta TP, every encounter with Bosses in Coil, invigorate lets me get 400 TP back, which lasts all of like, 2 minutes without a BRD. And i dont stack up Skill speed.
In the end, we need to just Wait, see what happens, wait for the First expansion.
Changing the gameplay style doesn't necessarily mean it's "destroying the origins". It means the gameplay is evolving and adapting to new standards. Many long running franchises evolved and kept their roots, but many went through structural changes to the gameplay, and FF's is going towards action RPG. While I'd prefer if XV kept an ATB system, the shift to action was inevitable and I'm excited to see more of the game.
Gameplay is one thing, but as long as it sticks to it's roots in storytelling, character development/interaction, style, polish, etc. it will be a Final Fantasy. At least in my opinion. (Yes yes, FF1-3 didn't have a big complex stories [well 2 did to my understanding, especially for it's time], but no game did in that time period and FF was probably the biggest pioneer in making story important in RPGs and games in general).
And as for the gameplay in XIV, it's fun, but not great. I also think it's got the right speed; non-trash mob battles are slow enough to be satisfying, but quick enough not to be a bore and very time consuming. I miss the variety of jobs though... I'm not a big fan of the "holy trinity", but it works fine. The class/job system is interesting, but I'm curious as to how they'll implement other jobs for some of the current classes. It doesn't seem suitable for introducing many FF jobs, still crossing my fingers for RDM though. This is coming from an FFXI vet lol.
To me it's too fast. I hope we won't be getting so much spell speed that the game turns into a mash-fest like WoW.
I understand the point you are making. BUT
What difficulty are you talking about?
AK? WP? CT? Praetorium? Castrum? hard primals? compared to low level dungeons?
you can faceroll any of these because they are not level cap.
Yoda would say to yo
this game, Hard it is not.
ohh extreme primals are not hard.
Battle speed is fine. Right now it's too fast for the lag.
However NPC characters do load unacceptably slow.
For gameplay purposes NPC characters should absolutely take priority over drawin other players warping around.
I have waited hours for chocobo porter/shop owner/levemete/guild npc to show up meanwhile the screen shows an army of bunnyhopping online players. Sometimes while this is happening ps3 still hasn't processed half of the architecture surfaces and the textures are still in the low LOD form.
Fix it now please.
