I was terrible in my leveling roulette and A8 weekly attempt yesterday. I was the DF horror story. Sorry to those I was grouped up with.
I was terrible in my leveling roulette and A8 weekly attempt yesterday. I was the DF horror story. Sorry to those I was grouped up with.
other day in A5 for drops had a SCh co healer who
well idk what they were doing
nothing apparantly
didnt heal, didnt dps, when i decided to try dps for 2 seconds tank nearly died and they didnt react; and each time didnt do the boost bit and died.
tbqh they were literally useless to me as i just solo'd the entire thing after that near tank death experience :U
You would be surprised the amount of DF white mages I go in with as SCH only to find myself main healing. And it's SCH who people bitch about endlessly...
A DF tank reminded me on Midas floor one this morning why I prefer to go in on any job but tank unless I'm queuing with a tank I trust. Queued as PLD with a healer friend because my static is having me switch to MT so i figured I'd start running PLD and practicing MT more often. We got to the double fausts and I said I'd take East Faust. The DRK said "I'll take both" and without waiting for a response, pulled. They grabbed Hummelfaust too and by that point I was feeling pretty superfluous. So when we got to the floor of the Clevering and they asked MT/OT, I was honestly pretty checked out, like, really, now you want to ask? So I said it didn't matter and of course they chose to MT. Despite me feeling pretty bitter the run went decently well aside from a misplaced glopgloop until the DRK failed to see a Boost and got 4 stacks of vulnerability. "Take him," they said, so I did, saying in aside to my WHM, "NOW they want me to mt?"
On the bright side, I did the other three floors with some very cooperative DRKs and we shared tanking responsibilities, communicated briefly but clearly, and pretty sure we gave mutual comms - at least, I gave them mine and got at least one in turn for each run.
I wasn't there to "sword oath and enjoy."
Pretty much every week since Midas release I've gone in with a co-tank and we each take a Faust. It would have been better, in my eyes, if the other tank had said "I'll take both, okay?" Then waited for confirmation before pulling. The way they did it completely disengaged me. Also, being on PLD and them on DRK, I'm pretty sure it would have been more damage for them to go dps stance, not me, if they wanted one tank to do all the tanking.
It was the whole epeen mentality from the 24-man raids and I'm not there for that.
Actually DRK yields the highest MT DPS because they can proc Low Blow and Reprisal. Honestly, there's no reason whatsoever to tank them separately. If you're that intent on it, you're going to have to queue with a co-tank as DF generally seems to solo tank it. Even then, if you don't stack them you may get bitched at. It has nothing to do with epeen and everything to do with your wanting to go against what's become a generally accepted strat. It's like how some data centers used to pull Bone Dragon all the way North in LotA while others tanked him in the center; both are viable but trying the alternate one on a data center that didn't generally do it that way led to a lot of drama because that wasn't what the vast majority of people were going into that encounter expecting.
In any case, MT isn't some position of glory; it's just another job in the raid and from one PLD main to another, you can't always expect to MT even if you are a paladin. There are always going to be portions of encounters (or entire encounters, for that matter) that you don't even need a second tank for, especially once you overgear the content. Ratfinx himself can be solo tanked if your healers are on top of things and your tank is sufficiently geared, though I generally only do that in a premade because if the healers are asleep at the wheel it's a very fast way to wipe as you then have an embiggened boss punching your DPS in the face.
On my 41 NIN with a 38 AST friend last night. He wanted to do a quick leveling roulette before he crashed for the night. Much to my surprise, instant queue. Even more to my surprise, it's Cutter's Cry. I haven't been in Cutter's Cry in almost two years (took a 1.5 year break).
DRK tank, with MCH and NIN for DPS and AST healer. I main WAR and AST buddy mains SCH. First pull, DRK just runs in (no Unmend) but quickly uses Unleash. He manages to snag all the mobs, but....there's no Grit. So a few hits from me, a heal or two from my buddy and some shots from the MCH and aggro is everywhere.
Second pull, same deal. I type (Grit) into chat and, to my surprise, the DRK obliges, and activates Grit. Ok, whatever, we all forget sometimes. Well, things went rough to put it nicely; the DRK was having mana issues, and the positioning of mobs, especially before the first boss, is key, and he was not positioning them well. Thanks to sand pillars and Shrapnel explosions, we actually wiped right before the first boss.
Friend and I are understandably frustrated, but also morbidly entertained by how unequivocally bad things are going. To be fair though, we cleared first boss w/o too much trouble, as the DRK was able to hold single target aggro no problem, and the MCH and I handled the adds w/o incident.
Shortly after boss is done, the MCH asks everyone what their mains are. We all reply, with the DRK saying that he is a DRG main. "Oh" I think to myself, "that kinda explains it." It's a bit rough up until the second boss, but no more wipes and we manage to take down the second boss w/o too much difficulty, just the MCH dying once to some errant aoe.
All along this time, I notice that the DRK is more or less Provoking on cooldown, even if he currently has aggro on that mob, so after we clear the next pull after the second boss, I ask if the DRK wouldn't mind a tip on using Provoke. He responds with something along the lines of "this is my first tank and I have no idea what I'm doing so any help is welcome."
Huh. Never heard that before.
Ok, so I oblige. I explain to him how Provoke works and the best way to utilize it (gives aggro equivalent to current max aggro on mob +1, so follow it up with a threat move asap), the general rule of thumb for opening on a pack of mobs (Flash/Overpower/Unleash equal to the number of mobs in the pack) as well as when to renew it (you'll get a "feel" for it after some practice, but Unleash every 2-3 WS combo chains is a safe bet for starters) and, in general, marking targets that use AoE attacks as a priority makes for a much easier/smoother time while tanking. The DRK quite eagerly lapped it all up, and expressed his gratitude for the tips.
By. The. Twelve. The entire rest of those trash packs prior to the final boss were like butter. He would go in, shoot an Unmend, then follow right into 2-3 Unleashes. He'd do an aggro combo, top off his mana a bit with Syphon Strike, then Unleash again, until we were down to one mob, then he'd just aggro/SS them.
We get to the final boss and I ask him if he's ever done a relic for a job at level 50. He says no, I explain the basics as a tank for him (lots of weird angled aoe, and if you see "Ram's voice" or "eyes turn blue" then gtfo of melee range) and we go in and one-shot it. The MCH and DRK both thank me and my buddy for our patience and for my advice, and I got the warm fuzzy feeling of seeing someone openly admit they had no idea what they were doing and then showing a willingness and ability to learn, and then going and putting new knowledge to use almost instantly.
After seeing all that I just logged off for the night, because there was simply nothing better that could happen.
So did my a5n run today, on faust only myself and one other dps 4 digits, our sch pulled 600 and he had 2 dps below him >.> far below..
Really surprised the main boss didn't reach enrage, like is that even possible?
Had an awesome ST today. :D Loaded in to this madness:

All the BLMs. \o/
We were joking around a lot the party was totally awesome. We were on the 2nd or 3rd boss? (I forget which exactly) and my boyfriend comes over and he just starts laughing. I gave him a really weird look and he was just like, "HEAL-ARY CLINTON! AHAHA!" And the party had basically the same reaction when I told them while on the way to the next boss:
http://i.imgur.com/zAKVmgs.png
Best ST ever. :') Still laughing.
I jumped into Trial Roulette, ended up getting a 0 minute in progress. I was like 'okay so a healer ditched a party, no big deal.'
I load into the instance to find out it's Bismarck story mode, and half the party is already gone. Amazing amounts of 'what the flying [censored] happened here' entered my mind, although it was more of a rhetorical thing as I knew people are jerks. Especially considering one of the people remaining was new. I tried calling in my friends but it turns out that the appointed party leaders weren't turning on recruitment, thus constantly sending my friends to parties that weren't already in progress. Everyone eventually left until it was just the newbie and myself, and he turned on recruitment, letting everyone come in.
We proceeded to destroy Bismarck for him, but seriously, people are such jerks. Bismarck story mode isn't even hard.
Bonus: One of my friends DID get into another 0 minute in-progress party while attempting to find mine, where he found the entire party randomly suiciding off of the platform.
WoD weekly.
DRGs and Mentors dying to almost all mechanics.
Stereotypes exist for a reason.
LOLMent.
Frontlines Routlette. I and just one other healer (scholar) are in the party. One tank, rest are DPS.
I'm thinking, this is going to be a pretty good group. Seems balanced. I see some familiar faces.
But when we get attacked, I notice that the only people's health increasing are the one's I'm healing. But the scholar is right there! (Marked with "Bind Target" for easy identification)
I'm trying desperately to keep the entire group alive. I get slept. I didn't want to use purify right away, especially since the other healer is right next to me. No Leeches. After a few seconds which seem like an eternity of watching my teammates's health go down, I use purify. Of course, get slept again immediately. Scholar is doing nothing. This happens again several times. Absolutely no removal of negative effects even once.
We came in second place, with me doing over 650000 healing and the scholar doing less than 150000. I still have no idea what that scholar was doing.
Leveling roulette as a machinist (level 43), I get Stone Vigil.
Party composition: DRK, WHM, DRG and MCH.
The first pull at the start seems to go smooth.
Second pull, tank pulls the 2 sentinels and the small group. Wipe.
Tank and healer starts angrily accusing each other for the wipe; tank saying that he never had problems while doing the pull and telling the healer to git gud, while healer was accusing lack of cooldowns.
Dragoon and I stay silent (because I honestly was too focused on trying to burn down the pack to check what other people were doing).
Vote kick for the healer starts, I vote no but it goes through anyway.
So we are twirling our thumbs in wait for another healer, after a bit a WHM joins and we can continue.
Tank dies again at the first pack after the first boss because, I assume, he los the healer with walls.
I was expecting a storm again, but nothing happens and we continue the run.
Still doing big pulls, I see tank's hp running up and down the whole time.
In the last corridor, he grabs all the sprites and sentinels. I use LB, and then we kill everything.
Last boss! Finally!
Healer starts to throw snowballs at everyone (/throw emote while being on snow).
Tank actually died at some point because of that, but never said anything. So at this point I thought that they knew each other.
Boss dead, I am level 44 and confused about the whole run.

Mentor roulette tossed me into Thornmarch EX today. I was pretty pleasantly surprised that we cleared in one shot. (And 6 people got their clear achievement!)
It's great when people do their homework. lol
The only thing I explained was what the tanks had to do, when one of the tanks asked prior to starting.
Went to WoD yesterday as a DRG and managed to die twice to the first mobs. :( I was too slow getting out of ice since no one stunned cast / I had jump lock, and I didn't get healed, so popsicle me dropped to DoT damage. Got back up, into it, things seemed fine.. then I just randomly died again. Still no idea what killed me (no AoE at my feet), and made a healer go "Oh god."
The rest actually went fine. Our SMN was a badass, and LB3'd the sectioned off adds on Queen - managed to kill all 3 group's adds at once. Only other mishap was people got lax on the meteors, which took out half of my group and I think almost all of C. We scraped through the next cloud add phase, and managed to kill Queen without a wipe.
Everyone jokes that healing will make you bitter, but I've never felt more misanthropic than when I've been tanking.
I got put in the Aery with a really bad SCH and two level 55 DPS. The DPS was slow, and the SCH didn't know what he was doing - wouldn't heal me until my HP dropped to <30%, had Selene all over the place, kept letting the DRG die, was trying to throw up DoTs without Cleric Stance while my HP was plummeting, really weak cures etc. I had to throw up all my cooldowns on mobs of three monsters just to stay alive. I nearly left, but decided to stick it out since it was late and they might struggle finding someone else. In the end I should have just gone, because I got kicked after the second boss anyway.
No idea why. Never lost aggro, used my CDs, didn't overpull; we beat the boss, moved onto a mob, and once they were down - "you have been dismissed!"
I swear that's the last time I try to help terrible players.
Just a sneak-peak of the free rage of a Lala DRK that tried to rush M8 with one DC'ed healer (in fact she was harrassed to the point she left). OT was a first timer, healer was not well geared but no one said a word, but "Let's wait for another healer, I don't think I can solo heal this fight in my current gear."
OT agreed, Lala tank pulled, wipe. He then asked a friend of his to enter the duty as a healer and during the whole fight he raged with people that wasn't on his "premade" of 3 people, specially the poor OT that haven't done anything wrong, he was just bringing the first time bonus and slighty undergeared to MT it.
I didn't got rage about my rotations or something like that, but it made me so uncomfortable to see this kind of behavior that I felt sorry for the OT.
http://i.imgur.com/ORadvdM.png
I would've told that prick to shove it. Ya know with the term "Lala" and "DRK", I think I might've grouped up with him at one point on A1 when Gordias was still newish. He was a complete ass that wanted me to do this overly complicated Provoke on the boss he was tanking and then have him take the other add. Of course we whiped, though for other reasons cause the group was newish, didn't matter they got it the "third" time, I say "third" because the second time I suggested doing the better idea of voking the 2nd boss as it came out, ya know, like not a total idiot. He decided to wipe the party because I had the gall to advise some sense into the little dipshit.
Anyway, he rage quit. We got a Warrior right away, and the rest of it went smoothly.
Aside from that I've getting into some terrible Expert roulettes. Yesterday it took almost an hour to get through Ampador hard because both the bards where doing such minimal damage, I swear it was just one person multi boxing, couldn't prove it though, so I just complained to my FC.
Today, I got grouped with a DRG would only attack the boss, wouldn't attack any adds, making the fights harder on everyone else. Couldn't kick him either since you can't kick anyone while loots still being rolled. At the final boss he pulls it and I stay outside cause I ain't having his BS (call me an entitled baby or whatever, but I expect everyone to do their best atleast when it comes to boss mechanics.) Long story short I get kicked, group stays with terrible player, I group up in a new roulette and clear with flying colors.
Honestly, if this string of bad players keeps going I might as well just start grouping up with FC mates. Less stressful and I know they are good.
Did DD today on my dps....
Tank pulls 2 waves which is expected.
Healer gets aggro of ONE mob along the way, and starts spamming heal there and not following the group. I shit you not.
And lets tank die when tank stops after 3 waves of mobs.
Then he comes along and swift raises tank.
Then... instead of healing me with aggro (I can live for quite a bit cos I'm also on the purple stuff)
He starts casting raise again even though tank is in animation for taking raise.
So I die too then everyone dies.
Tried to explain concept of healer needing to follow the group and purple stuff reducing damage but healer rq.
Like seriously, even if the tank wasn't supposed to do a super pull (for example if its AV instead of DD), you don't just stop and only heal yourself from one mob...
Got into Sastasha, normal mode.
I see one green leaf (DPS). But the other DPS has some level 60 jobs and the tank, although his highest job was only level 22, was well-geared.
There is no first time bonus notification.
I knew something was wrong, when green-leaf rushes forward and immediately begins pulling the mobs. The tank runs over to "help" him by hitting the mobs, no flash (that I could see). The level 60 DPS begins hitting the mobs the tank is NOT hitting.
Wait, am I SURE there was no first time bonus? Better check again. Nope, no bonus.
So the 60 DPS tells the tank "Use flash". Tank said "I did". The 60 DPS says "more".
But it seemed more like the DPS's fault. Green-leaf's fault for attacking first. Other DPS's fault for not even attacking the same mobs as the tank.
Green leaf continues to pull before the tank and other DPS continues to attack wrong targets. Tank runs in, DPS runs away, tank's flash misses. Repeats throughout the entire dungeon.
We get to the part with the clams, miraculously, as now I am trying to heal all three of them because they are all attacking other mobs.
I tell green-leaf to attack the tank's target and to attack only after the tank uses flash. The green leaf does change his habits a little, but it doesn't help so much. (by the way, green leaf never said a single word the entire time)
The level 60 DPS continues to attack first, ignoring the tank's target and taking all the hate on herself. So green leaf decides to attack that target too. Tank is alone fighting another target, trying to use flash to save the DPS, but DPS are running all over the place.
I can understand a beginner making mistakes, and a beginner tank still not used to the pace of the dungeon (that the level 60 DPS appeared to want to move at).
But the 60 DPS was awful. Giving no advice except "Use flash more", but then charging in before the tank and then running away from the tank with the mobs.
We finally get to the final boss without any deaths (amazingly). The DPS and tank completely ignore the bubbles.
Hold on a second? Really? No first time bonus? Maybe the game is broken...
I manage to stop the bubbles 4 times, but adds got through and begin pummeling everyone.
We beat the boss by the skin of our teeth with no deaths.
And no commendations.
Remembered another interesting group from last night.
Snowcloak. One person around 50.
No first time bonus message.
The tank is going very slowly, not pulling more than 1 group at a time. But I don't really care as long as we finish the dungeon on a good note.
I figure the tank might be a first timer. Oh, that's right. No first time bonus...
Get to the second boss, and the tank AND one of the DPS begin to mark and kill ALL of the spriggans.
I figured they must be first-time...oh, right.
So I figure the tank OR DPS will remember the mechanics after the big AoE. Nope.
Then by chance the boss snowballs some of the spriggans. Surely this will jog the tank's memory.
Nope. Tank proceeds to knock ALL the snowballs away from the boss.
I send a message "Please don't kill the spriggans".
Second big AoE. Sent the message again. No response again.
I send it again with a sound effect.
No response.
Okay, well...it looks like we are doing this the hard way.
And so we killed the boss without using any snowballs or stopping a single AoE.
After the fight the tank and one DPS both say "I forgot".
Friend asks if I mind helping his friend on seph ex, we get in and in on drg (not done this fight as a melee) everything is going well as we move into p3. Orbs and what not done we now reach the wind add, we kill adds stack up for jump and as we land I turn round Elusive jump! to the boss.
However it appears I had not turnt round :(
Last night my BF and I were running through Haukke Manor. He has been leveling WAR for cross class skills, and to see if he enjoys tanking. I was on my SCH. He pulls the first group and loses one to the BLM. BLM emotes disgust. I ask if they have a problem, and they reply that they don't want to be the tank. I tell them he is just learning, I promise nobody will die. He tells me to go F*CK myself and "even if he is learning he shouldn't suck that bad." At this point we are 3 minutes into the dungeon, but I let him know he will be dismissed shortly and that there's no reason to be rude. He says "I enjoy being an A$$hole to randoms that are garbage to me."
Seriously? Recently I am encountering lots of attitudes like this guy, and I have no patience for it. I will dismiss someone without hesitation if they are being rude to other party members. Anyways, we instantly got new dps my bf didn't lose a single mob after that initial pull, and both dps praised him for a smooth run at the end.
Sastasha NM, I was tanking. Party of French newbies. Healer was level 15, wearing crafting gear, and at the start of the dungeon decided to turn on Cleric Stance. And never, ever turned it off.
...it was a long run.
Whoa! That's terrible. Playing on a Japanese data center (and on a server with almost no English speaking population), I have only encountered people like this twice.
And they were both English speakers from the server with high E population. (And that's exactly why I did not choose that server).
Not saying all English speakers are bad, but I have never encountered a Japanese player who acts like this.
Me as offtank in Titan Hard LOL
http://i.imgur.com/gSVnRN2.jpg
I even got two comms for tanking the ground.
Had a similar leveling roulette run with a friend in Brayflox the other day.
War tank immediately pulls the whole first area, no cd, before the healer can even protect. We all die. He immediately runs off again, doing the same, but even running to spots you don't have to, like hes lost.
I check him out, Green leaf, partial 45 class quest gear, the rest level 30 nq crafted gear, strange.... It wasn't even all of the pieces from the 45 quest either. So I start thinking, "Yay! Troll tank.", also his name was a jab at the game sucking.
I was all for kicking, but we were bored and decided to see how it plays out.
First boss: Points the boss at the group and stays there, not getting the adds. Then immediately pulls multiple packs after, healer is doing quite well to keep him up.
He finally says something "I don't play well unless people hate me."
I respond, "No body hates you, they pity you."
Him "I am evil while leveling."
Me "Not evil, just sad."
Anyway, his tanking is just bad, but he knows enough not to roll on second boss loot and go straight to last boss before it times out. I had asked my friend if he wanted to kick him right before last boss... Looks like it wasn't this tanks first rodeo.
He stands in the bosses line AOE everytime, the healer does pretty well to keep him up for awhile, but has forgotten about Esuna there. Myself (Nin) and Bard friend take turns tanking him until the thank is up later, just as the LB is ready to kill him.
Should have reported, but was tired and went to bed instead. Trolls don't really make me angry, but it must make them a little upset inside when they get banned and have their toy taken away.
Other story: I've been getting a lot of WARs lately who have no idea what cooldowns are. One of them even ran off immediately with no stance in neverreap the other day.
Just now, level 50 roulette, Amdapor normal.
Should be easy right.
Nope, WAR runs off and looks like they are trying to pull everything to the first boss. But they facepull, and healer has to try to top them up on the way. Healer aggros most of the mobs obviously. Tank decides to ignore the aggroed mobs as they kill the healer, and continues running even though he is at 1/3 health.
Healer dies.
Tank dies.
We(dps) die.
Now I'm fairly tired of bad WAR tanks this week, all but two have been horrible and the sterotype of the DPS who picked up WAR and fate leveled it.
I say "(tanks name), you may want to pay attention to your healer"
They respond "Me? A healer has to heal during a pull stupid!"
Now I've had it. Apparently the healer too, since they leave.
Me: "Yes you, most of the adds were aggroed on the healer"
He had written that last comment as I typed the one above.
Me: "If your healer is dying you should probably go back and get aggro rather than keep running. Honestly that is probably the worst big pulls I have ever seen in here... Obviously from a WAR."
I notice they are a mentor too.
Me: "Oh, and a mentor too... Typical."
Make a disgusted emote and leave.
I was harsh on them, but a Mentor WAR, who has been through Seph EX, doing that pull... and that attitude after.
