I do realize this, but it's my understanding that it's also a culture where if you make a promise you keep it. Anything less would be considered "dishonorable."
You know how I know they don't mean it in the business sense? Because other threads they've said "no" to, have been closed by a forum moderator shortly after the Dev response was given, no longer allowing feedback.
If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say they're riding this one out to see how much people care even after a Dev response has been given.
That JP thread which was posted as a direct link/explanation of this one fairly exploded with replies after the Dev response on it, with all of the ones I've read so far expressing their disappointment.
