Had this happen too, also in Sohm Al. I'm not gonna lie, it made me laugh pretty hard. She took *all* of it. TWO circles + the line AOE.

As a diurnal AST I fully use all of my toolkit to heal
And when I hear my co-heal WHM not wanting to use Medica II and regen because of too much enmity produced by those spell...
I just...
/fliptable
I'm not complaining because he do his job, but...
Damn i'm frustrated when you know how powerful SoS is... And how great medica II can be on massive aoe...
Ifrit ex last night in DF just cuz I was bored and love the fight. The other healer was new so I explain the healer debuff, tell him about placement, and all of that good stuff. Tank starts, all dps eat the first eruption while running straight into me as I have inferno howl or whatever it is. They die. We wipe. Start again. I explain to them to stay away from the rebuffed healer(who is marked and standing at a waypoint). Tank pulls and they eat eruption and run into healer. Wipe again. After a few of these wipes, they finally figure it out... Until the new healer gets the debuff and stands in the center of the arena, blowing everyone up. I tell everyone that they should watch a strat vid or read a guide on the fight then EVERYONE starts berating me. We try again and fail. We can't abandon... Nobody is learning... We don't ever get echo. Screw it. I leave duty take the penalty.
I got the same thing everytime i join an ifrit ex PF
And usually I just let him die and proceed to solo heal the fight..
Because it's easier to solo heal the fight than having additionnal damage to take care of...
Oh undergeared tank is one of the biggest challenge XD
Got one too which was trashing me because I was healing to much for him to keep aggro.
I didnt bother answer because one DPS just put him in his place by pointing that having a low-level weapon and not using shield oath was not the heal fault
And I was surprise to read him praise me for not letting the group wipe.
Please... I'm a healer... You will die only if I let you 8D
Even if I hate those tank... They are a great training in mana management and aggro control.
There were several cases where I refrained from using MDII because people weren't picking up adds and Shrouds won't do shit when I'm the only one with enmity on them.
Nothing is worse than Benediction firing off on a dead corpse though.
There's nothing wrong with cure for scholars. It has the same potency and MP cost as physic, and is purely a cosmetic choice. It'd be different if Physick caused some sort of proc, but it doesn't. Some argue that it's a waste of a cross class space, but after you take everything you actually need you have a couple spaces left.
Everything else that healer was doing was bad, but casting cure wasn't one of them.
I also choose Cure over Physick because the spell charge sound makes my ears bleed.
So how to you put up with the sound for SCH only abilities when a good bit of them make the same sound?
The first time I did Haukke Manor in this game, the gladiator refused to use a shield and a belt.
On top of that his gear was terrible so he took quite a bit of damage.
I think I nearly ran out of mana on some pulls.
Aggro management was equally exotic.
But we managed ...somehow...

And this is in A3! After THIS person wiped 4 people running into them with a tether. I just don't know what to say. But I feel like soon I will be able to make a collage of chat screenshots.
The Alex Normal Weekly Nightmare... You know what, I gave up on DPSing there (outside of A1) unless I have an awesome party. Most of my runs end up with 1-2 wipes because someone doesn't care about mechanics.
Yesterday my party had a Bard die 3 times to lasers in A4 because he moved. After the third time he got Nisi. Really, WHY bards and machinist always 'moonwalk' towards the healers? Stay in the center, damnit!
There is that one video on youtube, with a SCH solo-healing A4. As though this was not quite a hard task already, he saved one dps from death sentence in the last phase during the first healer-debuff thing. To make it worse, during the second debuff part, 3 of his peers ran by him and got touched by his own debuff, making 4 players to heal (of whom, he rescued 2 or 3 from death). They finally cleared it. This player has my utter admiration ^^

My own little horror story, not as bad as what most seem to experience, but still..xD
Daily expert roulette, got Fractal. PLD, BRD, BLM, no one was new, all adequately geared, basically one of the nicest setups ever to rush through :3
We got to the first room and I noticed...something was wrong. The tank only pulled the smallest amount possible yet it still took ages for anything to die. Even with the bigger groups no one EVER used AoEs...
But honestly, the worst part was that apart from those insanely small pulls, the tank was kind of..perfect x.x
He never got hurt a lot, perfectly used his cooldowns, never stood in any AoEs...I was in dps stance pretty much throughout the whole run. He wouldn't even let me do the container thingy on the 2nd miniboss.
The worst part was - I was dealing so much dmg that I was constantly close to being OoM. Because I had to keep a certain safety margin, I ended up just standing there...bored to death, staring at the dps who took ages to kill anything, no need to heal the tank, no MP to dps.
It was horrible ;_;
So I complained to the tank that he was too perfect, he switched to Sword Oath and STR accessories for platforms and final boss, and in combination with the dps' mess-ups, I finally got something to do :o
After the run finished and the dps had left, I went back and..ehm..uh..summed up the dmg numbers in the chatlog ...and realized a PLD had just out-dpsed the dps...by about 100% >_>
But yeah, summed up, this run taught me that there are few things more boring than being unable to do ANYTHING. I always say "healers could always dps if the tanks are good, don't be lazy, healers!" but once you reach the point where you can't even dps anymore...*sigh*
This happened about two weeks ago. I was ASTing A1 normal with two tanks in my FC to help someone get loot.
Just a brief synopsis on what happened:
- WAR tank was 2nd on the DPS chart
- PLD tank was 3rd on the DPS chart
- Three of the DPS were within +50 DPS of my AST who was doing 400 DPS
- At least one missile exploding on the second set and onward for the remainder of the fight
*Rubs temples*
Not sure if this would count but I once had a summoner who got really mad at me (after we had wiped one or two times) for not helping them kill the holy fireballs in The good ol' Vault.
This was a fair while into my healing career in the Vault Hell but I wasn't very confident in my ability to keep enough MP on me to heal and DPS from time to time, so whenever the fireballs would appear I would focus on putting Stoneskin and all the regens I had on everyone for the incoming hellish impact of fire and pain.
I honestly didn't mind them being angry at me over that because they might have actually been a little right.
But what bothered me the most was when they gunner in the party oh so kindly offered to use his skills to up my MP, the summoner snapped at them and told them that I could heal my MP by myself.
I can take people shitting on me for something but I WILL break someones neck if people start being an asshole to someone who honestly only wanted to be nice and help.
Not so much a healING horror story as much as a healER horror story:
Just finished Praetorium on my WHM and the other healer (another WHM) never cast any heals but Medica II.. which may be ok if he/she was dpsing but.. well... they were dpsing, but not in Cleric Stance and just spammed Stone II the whole dungeon. Just. Why? I am ok with co-healers that want to just heal or just dps... No issue at all doing the full work of the "other side" but to halfass both just... *throws hands up in the air*.
Today, I got Stone Vigil in leveling roulette as a White Mage. I'm fine with Stone Vigil. I was even fine with the slightly-crazy tank that dragged aevis into bigger pulls because he actually knew how to use cooldowns and I've been healing for a good while now so I know how to abuse Regen to sneak in some DPS too. What I wasn't fine with was the dragoon. From the very first pack of mobs, he was standing in every last floor AoE. Either he was doing it on purpose or for some unfathomable reason he thought he should be dps'ing the front sides of the mobs, because the first few AoEs in there are frontal cones from the drakes. He stood in the first one, I threw a Regen on him. He stood in the second one, I threw another Regen on him. He stood in the third while the Regen was still ticking from the second... yeah. I let him hit the floor on the fourth one, Raised him, then asked him politely not to stand in everything.
He stopped for awhile. Then, at the second boss while I was trying to get the cannons (a tornado parked right freaking on top of the one I needed so I couldn't get to it) he stood inside 2 tornados DPS'ing at the rear side of the boss when there was plenty of room on both flanks. I don't even. The worst part was, the Bard consistently outdamaged him through the entire dungeon (I didn't say anything about this to the party, it's more of a sad footnote than anything). All I can surmise is that he enjoys the taste of floor candy.
I don't get very many healing horror stories other than doing way outside my role in Alexander DF groups. Like in A4N, I take orbs, kill an add, heal tank through discoid while taking orbs, healing dps through nisi while healer is dead, healing raid through nisi while co-healer puts it on everyone in the raid (ok I'll be honest I love it when they do this lol), killing adds under lasers in A1N and so on lol.
I save assize there, wipes out about 1/3 hp of every single fireball there. I help dps afterwards but honestly you can stop there if you're worried about mp issues, if they still can't kill them in time then it's more their problem not yours. Also I'm assuming you're a whm in this vault since your main class is WHM =P
Alexander 4 is my bane. No one plays that thing right. The breaking point was a DPS dying while quaratined. WHY? Is this even possible?
If you worry about your MP you shouldn't use stoneskin, it's not really good now and not mana efficient. Even with 1 ball left, i find it's quite manageable if you just DS + Medica 2 right after that phase, then top up tank. If there are 2 balls left... well then it's your party's fault not you xD
PS: Just realized we have someone with the same character name on Odin, by any chance your alt? :P
I always wonder this when I am the last player alive in an encounter I am like how are you all dead? (I got my first levi ex clear this way) While trying to get a shaft last week before I went on vacation (unsuccessful) I encountered a player that died in quarantine…I'm not sure how it happened. Maybe the tank was AFK and they were just incompetent or something.
For vault unless your party is undergeared 2 balls should be fine in my experience, haven't ever had more than that I don't think…
Anyway my only real healer horror story was one of the first times I tried healing on scholar (admittedly before I had bothered to look up much into the abilities) and encountered a drk tank in stone vigil whose HP bar was like a vu meter at a rave lol.
I had 4 balls..didn't make my first vault run any easier.
Because it was an overgeared DRG and I hadn't hit it yet and for whatever reason couldn't get hate back, low hp when he went in, got two shot.
True story.
My healing horror stories are everything I've healed today, mostly because I'm bad at it.
Started healing in 2003 in Asheron's Call 2, you'd think I'd know how to frickin heal after 12 years of doing it but apparently no.
@RadiantRay & Normalizer, Well, I'm not worrying about my MP spending at the moment but back then I was really really worried. I probably wasn't the most MP-efficiant WHM but I prefered to focus on using my MP on healing/protecting rather on DPSing. So I always left the fireball killing to the DPSes and the Tank. (Though I can't believe I never thought of using Assize back then. But I might have gone into the "Can't switch into CS on this boss" mentality.)
I think we had 2~3 Fireballs left each wipe, though I'm not entierly sure.
Though I found it suprisingly easier to DPS as an AST, but that might be because I know the Vault like my own hand now and dare to do a lot more.
Sadly, it's not me. It WOULD have been if I had been fast enough but alas. But if you see someone named Microsoft Edge running around, it would be me.
Yesterday, having just reached 57 level on my WHM, I decided to queue for the Vault.
The tank was squishier than a wet paper bag full of soaked paper towels, the DPS were incredibly slow and failed constantly to avoid mechanics. When we made it to the last boss, we wiped twice. The first time because i was out of MP from the last pull and had asked the tank to wait for my MP, but they pulled anyway. The second time because the dps consistently failed to dodge mechanics, and both died near the end. I got off two raises which completely sapped whatever MP i had left. Neither of them timed their accepting of the raise, and both got up right before his big room wide aoe and were instantly shot back down.
At this point it was a war of attrition between me and the tank and the boss. I had blown both Shroud of Saints and Assize getting those raises off, and was down to the last 5% of my MP. I ran out and the tank was smacked to death, and so was I.
I didn't make it to the next attempt because they decided it was all my fault and booted me.
You just summed up the last vault run I did.. DPS can really REALLY make that harder than it should be.
How did I go from a nearly amazing Fractal run..to utter disastor against the last boss...?
Easy.. DRG dies, so there goes 2k+ of my precious MP and further more, the SMN just didn't bother with adds, and neither did the DRG when I got him up. So who has to take care of the adds? Me. Floor is lighting up because *gasp* I'm only one person and the poor tank is losing safe spots to park the boss in.. Maybe I was being trolled..
For me, on my server, it's been the healers who are horrible. When I was a tank it honestly too bad with healers. But now... OMG! It's like people who are wanting into dungeons quickly are saying "hey. I'm gonna try healer, even though I don't know what I'm doing!" I have seriously contemplated being a healer but now... I'll stick to Bard!
I have yet to run with a SMN that will raise someone. They're all too busy focusing on the boss's health.
So story about me being the horror, I suppose. Running Storyline Ravana as my Scholar and I'm we're doing well enough. Eventually though, the other healer dies. I quick cast Resurrection on them, or rather, I think I do (it's possible I misclicked), and continue the fight. They don't get up, so I figure they've gone off to make a sandwich or something. So I'm finishing the fight on my own, trying to keep up the group health/ keep up protections and also keep the tank alive, which doesn't quite work out in the end, as the main tank dies. By then, Quick cast is back and I Rez them. Next thing, in Chat I see the other Healer yelling at me to rez them, and let them rez the tank. I do so, once Quick cast comes back and I can pull it off without letting the group die, but by then we've a minute left till Ravana dies. I'm about to appologise and then explain, but as normal, everyone leaves.
Not complaining about how it went. We pulled it off despite my cockup. Just wanted to get my screwup off my chest.
Was questing on my alt today and got locked out from the next in the MSQ chain, so I decided to go for a leveling roulette to unlock the quest. I was a 37 WHM and a little undergeared (29 weapon, all NQ, ~35 white left side and 28-29 right side).
Of course, I got into qarn.. And since I had not yet gone on my alt, the new player message popped up. I didn't say anything other than a hi, though. Party was a 36 war, a synced nin, and a synced bard.
The war.. Pulled multiple groups. As in, 2-3, including multiple bees. I even had to pop PoM a few times to heal him fast enough, and had to use more cure 2s than I would have liked. He also did not pause for bosses, even though my MP was constantly low (and the bard never sang).
Somehow, the only time he died was to two bees (dps were killing the qarn facer), and I was able to sprint + swiftcast + raise + regen to prevent anyone else from dying. What a run..
