Dragoons: A Rotation Reborn

Everything on the 1st page is what you should be following if you're still beginning to learn the Job.

At level 32, your rotation is nothing more than H P TTT on repeat. If you have Fracture (from MRD), it'll be H P F TTT. Once you reach 50, then give fracture the boot, and use everything posted on the OP.

According to stats weight, yes, the Wyrm Mail it's definitely more dps. We should say, as well, that Gae Bolg Animus which is my actual weapon (I'm still in T6 by the way) gives enough accuracy. The only scenario, in this moment, that would let me consider the purchase of Astrum Mail is switching weapon from Gae Bolg Animus to Liberator but for me it's still a long way to go. On the otherside we should always take in account the amount of soldiery needed for Liberator, so in the long run get the Astrum Mail and be prepeared eventually to a weapon change, sounds reasonable.

I could have used the the hq version of the i90 crafted body but... if for some reason I get a free sand at some point before the t9 body then well hooray i guess XD

Ya i'm at a point where if I get the soldiery legs, I won't meet accuracy cap unless I get more high allagan drops.

I technically have all the soldiery for the 493 bis since I haven't seen my self miss at t8 or t9 at the flank or back with that accuracy yet. Now if I can only actually get drops from coil ;-;, I'm at 6 weeks of t6-8 and 1 week of t9 with only 1 bracelet.

An update in my progress in T8. After I've started using X-Potions, my DPS seems to have went up a consistent 20 DPS(if it seems high maybe I just refined my rotation a bit) bringing me at around 340 DPS for T8 as the brain-jack/homing missile target. Just curious but when are you all making your BRD play Army's Peon in T8? I start to run dry around the time the first brain jack goes out so I've been telling ours to start playing a little bit before that.

Been running 484 ACC in T8 so far and I would sometimes get 3 misses which I assume was me attacking the front of the boss during a wipe or bad dreadnought placement.

Usually I call for paeon after every invigorate, the BRD lets it run for a few ticks and that keeps me topped. If I think I wont make it to my next invigorate I just tell him my TP is bottoming out and he plays for longer. They really ought to add a TP/MP display toggle...

I believe 484 is a little low, I seem to recall having flank misses at 488. I normally run 492 for T8.

I'm actually looking to purchase the Astrum mail and drop my wyrms mail. I have the upgraded liberator and have the soldiery hands, so I am very accuracy starved. I have the high allagan boots but can't use them cause I'll never hit accuracy cap, instead I've had to craft and meld the waist, the pants, and the feet until I have enough soldiery to buy the Astrum body. I'm finding the sweet spot for the first two phases on t9 is just around 491.

Speaking of turn 8, it's rather sickening how much dps my group's summoners are doing. Neither have above the allagan book but hitting 400 dps. The monk and I are more geared. He's around 377 dps and I'm around 350 dps. I do run out for mines and brain jack.

Meh I got my Liberator and my det is goin so much downhill :( Im not entirely convinced that weapon damage is really the way to go to do more damage, with ilvl95 weapon I was hittin like 1630 full thrust and now its more about 1550 big maximum ...

Is 400 for the entire fight? that seems really inflated for allagan book smn. Do you have 2 bards with perma foe up lol? 350 for drg, 380 for monk seem like ok numbers for a first time clear with i100 weapons.

Yeah its that +69% crit damage roll happenin once in a blue moon but still

i95 weapon, rest in i90 gear, you could break 1650 full thrust with x pot yes.
with Lib, you can break 1725 in i90 gear. i100 gear you can break 1825+ ( highest I have hit )

We have only one bard. He does use foe req, but not very long. I don't parse the fight. But those that do in the group all have very similiar figures using ACT for us all. We've not cleared it yet, but getting pretty close. Outside of food buffs, I don't believe any of us have used other consumables to boost dps. I'm just amazed at how high their dps is, that's all. I could probably squeeze out a little more if I didn't chase down mines or deal with brain jack, but I doubt I'd be matching the summoners. Just curious if other groups are noticing the same thing.

It really depend of your amount of Determination here, I cant have more than 355 with food atm while usin Wave harpoon, with the liberator it went down so cant reach these high numbers for now, way too low det.

With Lib at i100 gear level that I currently at breaking 1800 on full thrust ( with X potion ) I am at 333 Det w/ HQ Buttons.
Yes, prior to using Lib and a lot of the other gear I am using now, I was a ton higher in Det.

Damage will go up once you upgrade it to i110.

7 det can't compare to 5 str and 4 weapon damage.

Between the weathered liberator and the TIDAL wave harpoon, the harpoon will be your best bet. But once you upgrade to the i110 liberator that will be your bis until your t9 weapon. The WD grossly outweighs any loss in det. I currently have the upgraded liberator, 495 acc and am sitting at 366 det, so I don't know what y'all are complaining about.

Exactly. What Sygmaelle is experiencing, is RNGesus. 1 WD = approx 29 DET.

I hate the RNG. Most of the time my buffed FT (no X-pot) is between 1330 and 1400. I cry everytime it goes under 1300...had it happen a bunch last night too :(

Get my Weathered Liberator this week and hopefully will get my boots and an accessory from T6/7 this week too...watch more healer gear drops (our heals are our most-geared people too...so lucky with Coil2 loots)

We started T8 last night, kept getting to the second Brainjack before wiping (we had the Dread pop around the same time, which is what's probably causing the wipes. We're changing that this week)

There is that thing about dots not being 100% accurate.. I have both SMN and DRG, and while DRG def feels like I'm doing more damage, things just melt for my SMN. It's a tough call to be honest.

for the 2nd dread in T8, (one with brain Jak) I put 3 ppl in Dread Tower, and the dread will spawn when Brainjack got like 4 sec left, which is perfect for my group. then you can burn the dread w/o worry about BrainJack

I've not played a summoner yet. I know foe req helps the summoners when it's being played. Would the dots spreading between dreads and the avatar be that extra boost over the monk in my group that's just pounding away at him? I'm just confused how neither summoner is as geared as the monk or myself but parsing nearly 20 dps higher than him, nearly 50 higher than myself. I'm not trying to call foul or anything.


I try to keep phlebotomize up on the avatar while a dreadnaught is up. I have a disembowl ready as well for the dreadnaught and save DFD to hit both. The only time I'm not on on the Avatar is when chasing down mines. Based on other posts on here, I'm doing comparable dps to other dragoons. I've got the accuracy covered, so I know I'm not missing attacks. I just can't think of anything that would improve my overall dps to narrow the gap between myself and the summoners. I'm content lagging behind the monk in my group. For all intents and purposes I'm within that 7-8% threshold that monks have over dragoons (posted some time ago by EasymodeX I think) when they're in situations that greased lightning never falls off.

So if anyone else has any tips, I would appreciate it. It's just me...I just hate losing to ranged dps in this game where fights are melee friendly like this one.

Yea if they are using Bane and spreading dots, etc I could see that.. Bio I/II, Miasma I/II, Shadow Flare add up to like 1400 potency after all ticked out (did the math a while back cant remember exactly but it was equivalent to around 5-6 flares)

I can't help anyone with t8, as I'm still working on Twin (I know dragoons are awesome, but I can't carry 7 people alone.. XD).. But I can tell you as far as SMN goes, if they dot up and contagion + bane then all those dots are ticking on both the boss and dread, those are more potent then just CT and Phleb, probably where you are noticing the difference.

Not sure about your team, but we have it timed ( think one person for dread tower ) so that it is coming up right before Brain Jack hits. There is about two secs after the tank gets the Dread on top of Avatar before Brain Jack hits, and they are both just melted down in the center.
Dread dies about two secs before homing missiles go out, so for us at least, it is timed well.

Are the numbers for the summoner they giving you with pet ? or with out ?
I have seen some great numbers for both Summoner and Black Mage for this fight, mostly depends on how the group handles mechanics.
Your numbers do not seem far off, for your gear, same with the Monk if he is equally geared, both will probably come up with time and experience on the fight.
When the bard is cycling Foes does make a huge impact on the summoner btw. Our's, will pulse it even at times, just to help the summoner

A parse doesn't tell a whole story though. You see, you may not do as much damage over the course of a large fight like a smn would, but drg is there to help destroy something quickly. Setting up a piercing debuff for your bard and being there to do the big hits is invaluable. If everyone just used dots certain mechanics would be much more annoying to deal with.

Now is it fair that drg gets the short end of the stick? Not really but right now in my group pre-mega flare on T9 I do the most damage. The summoner is up there with me, but his dots don't tick during dives. Giving me the advantage.... look forward to future fights where a boss will cleanse themselves or become immune to dots for a short time.

The numbers are with the pet included (garuda used by both). Maybe it's just the use of foe req while dreadnaughts are up and as Whiskeybravo said, the potency of all the dots being spread. Like I said, I'm not familiar with the summoner. I just thought it odd how the two are lesser geared but doing more dps.

Been noticing the same thing. Summoners seem to get hit pretty hard up to megaflare in that fight.
Equally though, I hear the do very well in the end phases of the fight

if you average the fight out, the bard and summoner will do more damage than you. We lose so much damage in the last phase.

Ya i know, that why in the first part I said , "you may not do as much over the course of a large fight." Essentially the longer the fight draws out the more your dps will end up dropping :/

Got my Liberator last week and I'd be really interested to know how high can go a DRG with it in a fight like T8. Anybody got numbers to share ?

Dont have melded gear, dont have ilvl 110 weapon too. Was just sayin that its weird Im dpsin actually a bit less with the normal liberator

How long DRG dots need to be up that they beat other abilities in damage? (How many seconds) . Would nice to know if someone can answer as sometimes I am torn between dots or burst combo when enemy is almost dead, but not yet, so if someone knows the exact seconds please tell me.

1 tick = 3 seconds

Chaos Thrust + 1 Tick (230 Potency) > TT, VP, ID, DI
Chaos Thrust + 5 ticks (350 Potency) > Everything

Plebotomise + 0 Ticks (170 Potency) > TT
Plebotomise + 1 Tick (195 Potency) > TT, ID
Plebotomise + 2 Ticks (220 Potency) > TT, VP, ID & Equal to DI
FT > Plebotomise + 6 Ticks (Maximum, 320 Potency) > TT, VP, ID, ID

In other words, don't bother with DoTs when an add is about to die.
