I wasn't aware of this, thanks for the tip, pretty flawed system tbh.^^

Well, seeing this and finding it amusing but not 250 pages worth of reading amusing, I'm not sure if there have been any stories outside of specifically healers, but here's mine. I was a lvl 40 some paladin at the time (which got sync'd to w/e level). I went into tam-tara dungeon with a friend to lvl up her new mage class. The conjurer on the team however, kept randomly leaving his keyboard (or something, because he wasn't doing anything but standing nearby the fights). So guess who had to do the heals instead? Yup. The tank was the healer for half the dungeon. I literally sat in one spot doing flash, fast blade, riot blade, rinse and repeat. 2 dps would attack the enemies surrounding me (unfortunately, not very coordinated there either, so overall, everything took a long time...). Tanks should never be the healer T_T my cruddy +70 heals were barely keeping me alive. Especially since interrupts.
As a side note, the healer did do his job for the boss at the end (thank god).
That Derp Knight should be considering dropping their sword. It's about as blunt as I can be because if they can't manage Darkside at level 60 they don't belong in an "Expert" dungeon.
By not managing Darkside, they are gimping their self-healing abilities that also come with their MP gain Syphon Strike/Souleater combo, that they are likely not using actively in the first place to get into that situation, so they run out of MP often, and probably are not using Blood Price on cooldown while they are getting hit to get free MP either. No access to Dark Dance parry cooldown, then not enough MP to access Dark Arts for Abysal Drain AoE and self-heal too, all these add-up making them seem more "squish" to healers. Basically they are locking out almost half of their toolkit without Darkside. Totally easy tell the Derp Knights from the real Dark Knights.
It seems I finally got a horror story to share. I queue'd up for Brayflox hard mode the other day and got a warrior and 2 ninjas. I was happy because i like brayflox for it's large pulls or so I thought I did.
Being a new player to the game and all I had no idea what a large pull was until I met this tank who started pulling the adds....and more....and more.......and mooore. I was like when is he going to stop? He kept going until I saw the purple line for the first boss. In my head I was like "omg I must find a way to holy spam as soon as I can" knowing I can't let these things live very long but I"m not level 60 and I don't have Tetragammaton to use as I come out of cleric stance. So going into the pull he's already taking very heavy dmg and I don't think all the adds are even hitting him yet. I cast 3 Cure IIs and they didn't do squat...panicking I cleric stanced and swiftcasted Holy. I did about 3 of them until the tank's hp got too low for comfort, so benediction it is followed by divine seal Cure II....after the second cure II I realize it wasn't fast enough so I popped Presence of mind and that was just enough to keep him alive...just barely. Well I guess you know what's coming next? The cds wear off and shortly after the tank dies followed by me and the two ninjas. I felt like I could've done better there idk.
I felt like I let down the party and i never felt so bad as a healer before and to my surprise he did a similar pull right after 2nd boss. Once again the same scenario leading to a wipe except I was the one to die first since i think the adds have a skill tha ttargets a random player, and since I had to had to focus all heals on tank I had no time for myself so I died. Looking back at it now I should've casted cure III since i was standing next to tank, but not everyone's perfect. You have no idea how happy I was to see gates stopping the group after each pull after the 2nd boss was down. I still got a commendation though, I wonder who it was from? xD
I had a similar party to this immediately after in Hatali Hard mode where the tank pulled everything to first boss. I never done pulls like this before so once again it caught me by surprise. This time it was different though since we had a black mage with us and the "vulnerability up" debuff help with killing them faster and there were much less mobs than Brayflox.
I swear ever since I got my A1S bracelet tanks been going crazy in DF lately with these crazy pulls. It happens a lot in HWs dungeons but it's much easier to deal with there since WHM has a lot more utility at those levels.
For pulls like this, when I'm not confident I can heal enough, as in when I'm sync'ed, or when I'm uncertain the tank is a master at using his CDs, I don't mind casting eye for an eye during the running. I'm fine with having a couple of mobs jump at me, if that allows me more time to heal the tank.
Otherwise, I run, precast divine seal, and as soon as he flashed > Cure 2 and then Cure/Cure 2 > Regen/E4E > CS > swiftcast Holy, Presence of mind > Holy Holy, and then back to healing. If the party is fine, mobs should be almost dead by then and you should not have to use benediction.
A good tank will always stop pulling when he reaches 40/50% hp.
I am not surprised... I was once doing an expert with my boyfriend (he is scholar). We get into Fractal, he usually can DPS and heal the big group in the first room no problem.
He does the usual, but the tank drops dead. He saw that the paladin wasn't using cooldowns and questions him. His reply? "I never had to use cooldowns on big pulls :D".
After that, tank started to use cooldowns and the rest of the run went fine.
It's not your bracelet. Those big pulls have been the norm even when the level cap was at 50. ;-;
If I can get off Medica II before tank dies faster than Usain Bolt can run, we're good.
I pretty much do this: Medica II > Regen > Divine Seal > Cure II spam > Holy(about 3) > Shroud of Saints/Presence of Mind(depends) > Cure II spam(depends)*
This is not enough to heal stupid though or heal paper tanks through big texas size pulls.
You don't have to do all that to heal a tank through a very large pull. All you need is to make sure you get a holy in, even if you have to use swiftcast and you don't have cleric stance up. Once you get that holy in, the stun on all the mobs gives a much larger damage mitigation than any other healing spell you have. After that, you just need to spam your holy (with cleric stance if it wasn't up before) and assize as needed. On your 3rd or 4th holy, the mobs will be immune to stun, so at that moment, turn off cleric stance and use tetragramaton and cure 2 as needed. That will be more than sufficient and you can continue with your holy spam again.
Remember! Holy is the best "healing" spell a WHM has to heal through a large pull. Get that first holy through and healing will be a breeze.
I don't see this rotation as optimal, to be honest. First of all, why Medica and Regen before DS? Iirc everything applied before DS won't get a DS buff, so there is that. As for DPS rotation, putting Aero 3 on mobs is essential (it's a huge dps +). I personally use something like this: Asylum (if available)>DS>Regen>1 or two cures if needed>CS>(Swiftcast)>Aero3>(swiftcast)>Holy>Assize>Holy spam till tank is like 20-10% hp>CSoff>Tetra>Cure2>Regen(if it expired)>CS>Holy etc. That's of course for pulls of 3 or more. If there are only two mobs (or even 3, when mana probs), then it's just Aero3>aero2 and rocks all the way. Bosses are the same, except I save PoM for them.
Couldn't agree more. I wish it wasn't so expensive on MP tho xD
I'm still 50WHM and playing around with rotations. :o There is no assize yet or any other goodies and all my law gear is 10 levels away hehe..
For DPS, I always use Aero II and Aero. Because, no Aero III. :)
Not really sure I wanna risk tanks life dropping that low. My own threshold is around 50% of their HP.
Oh, sorry, lol.
Still, my poing with DS stands) Use it before applying HoTs and you'll see the difference :)
I wouldn't start with medica II /regen myself, they are really aggro-triggering...
Had one not too long ago....
I was on an alt, leveling a 46? 45? o_Oa whm on it... DFed into Stone Vigil and.....
the tank was apparently spirit bonding all his gear.... and it just kept getting lower in level, as he stopped often to turn everything into materia, till he was bonding roughly level 38 +/- DPS gear. o_o; Our tank was reduced to a DPS-grade defense with constant, lengthy pausing. and then proceeding to pull big as if he were TRYING to die.
I get that some of these dungeons are easy, and it may be a quick way to spirit bond some old junk, but... at least adjust accordingly to the less and less defense of the gear when it's obviously not an overgeared healer (I was in the taffeta? top and bottoms.. one I got from a dungeon, the other I got off the marketboard >.> namely because I'd forgotten where I'd gotten the first piece and was lazy). They're lucky I'm not actually new. x_x I felt like I somehow went into a EX roul with a regular big pull - but with an extra squishy tank and undergeared healer.
The NIN didn't seem to react much to anything about this, but the BLM and I sorta quietly huddled together in an, "oh gad why, why is our tank doing this to us ;~;" way. >_>
Tank went AFK in the hall just in front of the first set of windows, right after killing the first set of ice sprites. Soooo, BLM and I just sat in the window, looking out and derped a lil.
After a number of minutes of just staring and looking at the rest of the party from my char's window perch, I picked up my mug, took a swig of coffee, put it down and- the pieste harness-wearing tank was gone. Just.... gone.
He was there before I picked up my mug. Gone when I put it back down.
Like magic.
I think I drank our tank.
No "back" in chat, no nothing - he apparently just began running down the hall to the next pull, ready or not. He must have had a death wish.... seriously.
It took me a second to realize he didn't get AFK-booted and looked down the hall.... yyyeeeap.
Sprinted down that hall as he pulls the next batch of ice sprites + Aevis + everyting else that had been in range to be pulled to very end of the hall without us.
Ended up divine seal + SC Cure II just in time x____x I swear he must have been at 50 HP when the Cure II took effect - his HP bar was completely black right before.
After that it was a slap to PoM and barely keeping up. OTL I didn't dare put Regen up, no matter how much I wanted, till it felt a little stabilized where I had 2 seconds GCD that he'd survive, for the next Cure.
Even after Shroud woven in there somewhere, I was out of mp...OTL My only savior was that he stopped to - you guessed it.......... turn gear into Materia.
The last boss... the frost breath (I think thats the name?) took such a chunk of his HP, every time.....
I don't know how we didn't wipe, anywhere....
*Rocks in a corner and clings to the BLM for safety and AoEing*
Another one... last night - but not realy a horror in the same sense.... more like, "wat".
On my main char/Saseal... went on AST, DFed into Hest roul... got the Turtle. Okay, easy peasy.
One of the DPS was new. /shrug No problem.
Right out of the gate, the tank runs over to one of the DPS and starts repeatedly petting them, after I buff.
Oh, they must know each other/friends/FC mates/etc.
DPS doesn't react.
./shrug maybe they're not very outward showing or emot-y with others around.
Tank: Nice! I've got a harem of catgirls! (this is my first indication that they're all strangers)
Me: ..... Cat-boy. (I can take a joke, but this rubbed me the wrong way, as I'm already starting to get a little skeeved out for the poor DPS)
Other DPS: Dragon-girl...
Tank: Don't worry Korei, we'll get you a dress
Tank proceeded to pull....... without flashing (was GLAD, so low level was no excuse), leaving some things untagged to run amuck. Well, at least he's got the turtle, right?
Not for long.
The DPS and I are kiting, healing and DPSing - I end up with the turtle, so meh, whatevs, I'll pull it to the bag spot and tank it myself, not like it hits hard.
In the mean time, the tank is just happily derping and talking that same way while we're trying to deal with chaos of things bouncing around.
"Less chatting, more tanking" (*claps for the DPS who said it*)
Turtle ended up bouncing back to the DPS and then all over the small map x.x
For such a super easy hest, this was a crazy scene >.> I don't even know what the tank was even doing, during all of that o_O
Once that was over, we ended up back at the hest guy.... in which the tank ran around petting the other two DPS again... saw the guy turn to me and nope. Nopenopenope. Keep yer skeezy mitts off :|
I ran away. >_>
Tank: "Aww you don't want to be petted Saseal?"
Me: "Nope."
*twitch*
Only friends and, if DFed, non-creepy, already established as 'friendly' peeps can /pet me :|
If that could have turned PVP, I probably would have malefic'd him to death, after the end/second attempt to pet the DPS --- it was obviously unwanted by all three of us. >_>
Pretty sure the machinist would have joined me...
I felt bad for the new player, if they really were new and not just an alt >_>;
The tank in wanderers palace normal tried to pull everything to the first boss. I could have hhandled a half pull but she wouldnt stop and died when she finally did. That was just..way too many. She tired twice. Guess she was in a hurry. I gotta stop running to heal so..
Had the exact same thing happen. First time I tried to run along and wait until the tank stopped...they died. 2nd time I attempted to put dots on but that caused mobs (obviously) to peel off to me and even once they stopped running the tank never took them back. At which point I died and we wiped again. Thankfully when they then got an attitude about how 'everyone' who healed should be able to handle that much of a pull, the DPS took my side. She went dead quiet and pulled more reasonably throughout from then on. And low and behold, we didn't wipe again. Funny how that works huh? XD
Yesterday my healer friend had a very tiring day but we still ventured for Ex roulette.
I went Tank so that way we just skipped the wait time :v!!
Holy molly, despite the good start, she kept falling asleep. It kept me on my toes, and I kind of feel a bit proud of the Holmgang shenanigans I pulled off on both bosses and pulls. But hell if it wasn't scary D:
No one died tho.
Wait, no, I stand corrected, the MNK died at some point in one of the pulls in the last room, I think it was the Colossus one. My friend was all "uh? why did he -mumblemumble- take so much damage -mumble-".
It was cute...
No one important died, tho.
She went to bed right after the dun.
Leveling AST in Halatali. When we got to the Thunderclap Guivre, everyone stood in the electrified water the whole time. I don't know what I did to make them hate me so much in the little time we had together.
Funny thing is, that's actually doable on SCH on low level stuff. Just put yourself on autofollow of some other group member, and let fairy heal. And no, I wouldn't do this in DF group out of respect but I did it couple times when running with friends and I wanted to go grab a coffee. Not like I was away more than couple groups but when I said "back" it got good laughs :)
Sounds like one hell of a Dark Knight.

So I queued for Aurum Vale because as much as I hate this place, the xp is nice. The tank was a little undergeared for the dungeon but healing her was not difficult. The BLM was new to the area, so I expected some mistakes. The problem with this group however made itself apparent on the first wipe. The GOT DAMN MONK KEPT AGGROING THE WANDERERS. Fine then, I can keep us through this mess. Until he starts pulling aggro, and THEN we wipe(this is all after holys and such). Three wipes. And he's like "why am Im being pulled into the mobs?" I silently say "Why are you not paying attention to your surroundings?"
OK we get to the first boss. I tell the BLM to eat fruit at 2 stacks. She gets up to 3 for but managed to get to the fruit. THE PROBLEM HERE IS THE MONK HAS FIVE STACKS. So guess what? I'm dumping cure IIs on HIM. But it is not enough, and he drops, the BLM shortly after.
So now I need to work in some MP to raise them both. I start with the monk first. He does not wise up and keeps building stacks. We wiped because I didn't have enough MP and the boss was 50% HP...
So he decides to play the "It's the healer's fault" game and says "I've had healers keep me alive with 3/4 stacks and not use much MP.." Let that sink in for a second.
I know that's bullshit but he just wouldn't shut up after that. Ya ok, raise is 700+ mp at 49. I blew through 1400+mp and I did not have shroud of saints ready because healing Mister 5 stacks hogged everything. Final attempt, this guy is riding 3 stacks. The odd thing is, instead of eating the fruit, he is running back and forth from it. At this point I feel trolled and I'm going to let him die. He then runs towards me(I'm not freaking healing him.. he's been trouble for this group since the very start) and dies. So now he's like "do you have regen". Don't see you me using it on the tank? I'm just wasting MORE MP placing regen on you PLUS Cures, since the stack damage is too much for regen. Tank left first, and I left but after I gave the monk a piece of my mind.
I run AV often, this was the first time I could not get past the first boss. This is also the first time I've had to be verbal with anyone in DF on a negative level IN A LONG TIME. And is it a coincidence that the last time was also in AV?? I was BLM though..
Edit: Let me just say I consider myself to be a good healer, but not good enough to carry bad players. I don't want to be, and I never will be.
I do fear the aurum val for that kind of player...
I dont care about the second boss and his insane big club he scared me at first but not anymore
I dont care about tank with death wish to skip monstres...
I do fear bad player who forgot the very basic mecanics !!!
AV tale sounds horrible, I feel for you :(
My own recent endeavor including a company of a monk. Went to ex roulette to get eso before chaos migration on Sunday. We start by pulling the first island, like always. And I see that everything is dying very slowly even with me dpsing hard. I had to use shroud even to keep tank alive on a first pull because of oom. Dps are above mentioned monk and a summoner. Summoner had a low ilvl and monk...just didn't do any rotations. It was a struggle never seen before in NR. 40 minutes instead of 20 without a single wipe I mind you! It was just that bad. I ended up a top dps as a whm. I stoicly struggled through this and didn't say a word to the monk who was apparently bashing her keyboard randomly. Now I think I shouldve said something, maybe this person was just unaware of the class, but then, if they don't bother researching then it's their choice I guess.
I had a monk (yes, another monk) like this in Aurum Vale when me and my SCH friend (queued as SMN) were heping our tank friend level.
The monk was so obviously trolling that we decided to play along: 3 brazilian players, talking in portuguese on party chat, messing up everything we could with extra big pulls and playing ping-pong aggro with him. He left before the first boss, cursing us.
It pretty much ruined my mood for the rest of the day.

And they still complain about lack of heals!
*Sobs*
I'm looking at the fact that you did not only way more healing than the rest, but more damage as well.
To be fair, AV is quite confusing to newer players at first. I tanked for it (and even said first time) and the healer gave me all sorts of crap through the entire thing until the end boss when she said "Is this your 1st time?" (to which I said, for the 2nd time, yes). Prior to that, i kept getting snide remarks of "what kind of a bad tanks uses sword oath" (only used it on giant boss with club as i can get plenty of aggro as nearly all stats are in strength), "Stop running around so much" and "You must really hate healers". Had to tell her to chill out. End boss, I finally learned that eating fruits were the solution as the healer finally told me.
Granted, your scenario seems like it was just a stubborn experienced player. But funny side note. The healer that was giving me crap told me that I could allow 3-5 stacks before I needed to get a fruit. Until I read this, I thought that was what the norm was xD (because I dislike AV from that experience, I never went back).
Heaven's no.. anything more than 2 and the poison damage cranks up(in addition to the unavoidable AOE that adds the stacks to behind with, plus that attack that gives you a stack). At 5 stacks, you're wasting a cure II at that point. Also the BLM(new to AV) didn't give me any trouble, though I feel a little bad her first time experience ended up a terrible one.
Well, aggro isn't always the only reason to use shield oath; it does provide you with a generous defensive buff, and it's difficult to be overgeared when levelling (or synched down to level 49). On the other hand, if said healer says you can have 3-5 stacks on the last boss, I don't think they had that many issues with healing whatever damage you took on the cyclops boss even without said buff.
Yes, fully understand that shield oath has it's advantages aside from keeping better aggro. 20% dmg reduction is nothing to laugh at. But the only time I died was when I screwed up my timing to shield bash the cyclops during one of those 100 ton swings or w/e it's called. Added with the stacks, too much hp was lost. I honestly have no clue how many stacks I had when I died there
Yeah I've moved ds to the front now. Even on small packs of 4 I'll ds+regen.
