Oh, so we're keeping the same shitty PS1 textures that we have right now. Great. So it's not a downgrade after all.

I had XIV running ok in beta and just after launch on my old system which was a dual core AMD and GTX 260sli..
I'll give that it wasn't 60fps+ all the time and UL it was laggy but it was still playable.
Any half decent Pc is going to match that spec really (2008 PC i think), i know people don't want to be spending cash every year, but if your going to game on a PC you do have to put a little money into it every now and then and keep it reasonably up to date. (an i3/5, budget mobo 4gb ram and gtx560 could play this game well)
But if people are struggling with this now, with all the options and need to turn the game down that much? Its almost like they are asking to play a PS3 game on a PS2.
I'm not saying they shouldn't get a helping hand and have a low res version made, but tech has moved on since the 1.0 launch, the hi end graphics should be getting better or at least as good, not just down grading the whole lot for the people with ancient PC's.
Also one of the biggest benefits of DX11 is having a low res version of something and just using tessellation to improve it with textures, it actually helps with development time as well.
(my working knowledge isn't amazing so my wording might not be 100% on that, but i remember an old thread on overclockers i may find to link.)
Edit: gona add in that I'm holding off if its a downgrade till I see benchmarks or beta..
I'm just joining in as i am concerned they are going to drop to much of what is an amazing looking game that tbh, is't that demanding any more.
Llighten up. Actually, cry it out. That's healthy.
But the point obviously remains that they downgraded things. Nobody's complaining about improvements to depth of field. If it took 2 years for them to improve that flaw, then well done. But if it takes them 2 years to improve that while making everything worse then they're obviously overpaid.
Aside from the actual characters' facial features, everything looks more or less the same, albeit washed out. There's not very much different at all, and they've already stated that the shaders/textures were still a WIP.
Foliage even looks somewhat better, if not more or less the same as it looks now. ARR, is an upgrade compared to the current game, overall. A few downgrade for a vast amount of upgrades is exactly what everyone was expecting, considering they want this to run on the PS3.
Lolforums...
i got your light right here.

I think that the graphics should be the least of everyone's concerns right now, Graphics are nothing without a solid game to back it up. Graphics can always be optimized down the road, but if the content isn't there to last us till next patch at launch , then there could be a problem.
We don't want another 1.0, Awesome graphics horrible game at launch. ------> Lets not make the same mistake twice<----

The assets used to create the trailer were actually older than what was shown during last week's Letter from the Producer Live. Also, depending on the area shown, the lighting, as well as hair, neck movement, and facial properties are still being adjusted.
