I want to love the game because I like the final fantasy universe and I enjoy the story that the writers put out, but the game just doesn't justify a subscription fee. Honestly no current game, not even wow, justifies having a p2p model anymore. Why do you think they all fail or turn f2p in the first place?
For this particular game, It boils down to gameplay, which lets be real here.. Is just clunky and awkward due to some unwise game design choices.
2.5 gcd?? Game was simply catered for console gamers. and honestly isn't very entertaining to watch or back-seat game.
0.5 delay between every single damn action??? Just plain crappy game design.
Its an aesthetically pleasing game, but sadly there isn't anything new or innovative here. So i'll probably just be finishing the story since that's one of the only appealing parts of the game.
I will say the crafting is unique though, they feel like mini-games that actually have progression.
I'm surprised that after 21 pages only a few people have even mentioned the additional internal lag from the abysmal server tick rate in this game. That to me is the largest problem, and as I said earlier I simply won't subscribe as long as that is a thing. It's already bad enough trying to play an MMO from Australia without that additional lag. This is where that 0.3-0.5 second delay on all actions comes from, and the reason why so many people are having issues with avoiding AoE attacks even in the US (surely everyone has felt this, assuming this isn't their first MMO). EVE Online feels a bit better to me, and that game's servers are in London.
And don't tell me to play on a Japanese server either, I was on Tonberry during Beta Phase 4 and it was barely any better than it is now (and I'm sure as hell not paying to transfer back there even if we can transfer across datacenters, and my friends struggled to even get onto Behemoth as it is).
Sure it's 150ms to Tokyo vs 300ms to Montreal, but you have to take the 300ms internal lag into consideration as well. No matter where you live or which ISP you're through, you're suffering from that additional latency. How the hell do people not notice that? I would have thought US players would be a lot more sensitive to it seeing as they usually don't have to put up with anything above 100ms, let alone the 450-600ms effective latency we get here depending on which datacenter you're on. Even if you live in Montreal or Tokyo you still have an effective 300ms latency, think about that for a second. That would be purely unacceptable in any other MMO, why is this one different?
If you're expecting to get anything done in endgame or especially PvP (when that comes out) without them first addressing this, you're sorely mistaken. Frankly this is why most MMOs end up flopping (and by extension one of the largest reasons for why WoW is still so popular); they always fall flat when it comes to network performance or general responsiveness.
This is the single most important reason I haven't bothered leveling past 30 (as instances are a chore at best with this kind of delay and I've heard that they get significantly harder at about level 35, and playing as a Tank exacerbates the issue) and why I won't be resubscribing, at least until it's addressed. Hell I'd rather play TERA at the moment (and anyone that's ever played that game that lives in Australia or or such knows that the action-oriented combat system in that game combined with the fact that your attack speed is tied directly to your latency makes playing said game a joke). People might think I'm exaggerating but when you've played WoW for 6 years from Australia you tend to really pay attention to these things.
TL;DR: Bad netcode/server performance is bad, not resubscribing until it's fixed (assuming it even does get fixed, SE don't exactly have a great track record with that kind of thing).
My sub is on the fence, I have serious issues with this game and I try to figure out which way im gonna go every time i log in. That said heres my issues and resolutions list for whats wrong and how to fix it. things are bad in this game as it stands currently.
1.) The only thing this does better then any mmo is the crafting, not the system, just the actual act of crafting, its fun. The system sucks, theres no actual point to crafting anything, short of potions that have far to long a cooldown to be useful or food that doesnt last long enough or you lose on death. Everything else you craft is useless because you get fully geared through questing and end game content is better then what you can craft. So the best part of this game is gimped, I like to participate in it, its what I do mainly, but its gimped none the less.
1a.) To fix: Take away the gear rewards after level 10 for quests. Lower the cooldowns of potions dramatically. Increase duration of potions dramatically.
2.) Story line progression sucks. There I said it. I know everyone likes it and points to it as a great part of the game. Think about it. How many time have you gone to a new area, collected your quest and run off to pick up 3-5 things along some linear pathway with 2 or 3 mobs popping up on the way. Then return to the new city and talk to 3-4 npcs in random locations, fetch something somewhere, a mob pops up again somewhere else and then return to the original npc and now we are off to another new city to start all over again. This is batch questing pure and simple, someone recycled the same stuff repeatedly with a new skin and some new text but ultimately its the same set of 3-5 quest in each area that we are all repeating.
2a.) To fix: You cant, this game was built as a wow clone with much better graphics and as such its a grind fest of fetching things and going to kill mobs thinly disguised.
3.) Lack of foresight with the RMT's and continued lack of doing anything about it. The game is supposed to be an immersive experience, someone pulling me out of this to offer me in game currency for my real world money just pulls me back out to remind me that yes Im not in Square enix's world, im in my living room playing a game that has every intention of sucking every dollar i own out of my pocket. I'm here to have fun and escape my day to day life, not be reminded of it a dozen times every time i entered a new zone.
3a.) Do something about it and now, not at patch 2.1, not in batches of a thousand, do something now. Hire half a dozen people for every server, have them sit in every major city and start banning immediately and on the spot. This can be done and it should be done.
4.) Cheating/Hacking/Bots. I follow the rules, that bot over there teleporting from node to node obviously isnt. I report him. Days later, still teleporting from node to node. Not only does this follow the same reasons as above issue (taking us out of the experience of teh game) but also this issue directly impacts the market, destroying the economy which continues to further cause the real issue with problem number 1 which is a gimped crafting class, you simply cant make any gil because the economy is completely destroyed.
4a.) This issue cant be solved as quick as the above issue unfortunately but it needs to be resolved. Some kind of hook needs to be inserted to detect third party programs.
5.) Combat is awful. 2.5s gcd? ok i can get over this i guess, the monsters are balanced around it so even though its slow as hell I can ignore it. But its dreadfully slow.
5a.) Even if you lowered the gcd im sure the lag would be an issue, Id suggest to insert more instant cooldown skills for each class to make people feel they have more to do then hit a button every 3 seconds.
6.) Linear job/class progression. Hey look, theres a lvl 50 Paladdin. Oh hey look, theres a dozen more that look exactly the same and probably have the exact same hotbars setup too. Literally the only difference between one character and another is the skill they themselves bring to the game in the form of knowing which progression to run through with the skills they use. Short of that there is no difference between running a party between one person and another. Every single character uses the same gear and the same skills because there is a lack of choices. Jobs can cross class with 2 other classes besides their mains, oh but by the way those skills in those classes, yah theres only like 3-5 that can actually be used by the jobs, yah its not just any skill, its just the ones they feel are acceptable. You may as well just have given us the skills you wanted us to use as a level up reward because its bs that I can only have a couple skills from the sub classes.
6a.) If you say your going to have cross class stuff then go all in on it. Dont allow just a couple acceptable skills in. Balance all the skills under the assumption that they can and will be used by someone on another class even if its not optimum skill usage. You need to allow players to choose how they play, you can not dictate to someone which skills they have to use for the characters they play while at the same time touting multi-classing as a feature of the game.
7.) Character progression is pointless. 30 points of stats for 50 levels. And what do you get for those stats? 1% parry. 1% dmg increase. 500 hp. 30 mp. i could go on with meaningless amounts of stats. You could completely take this part of the game out and no one would notice on their parsers. Its frustrating to even get the reward at level up when you realize how useless of a reward it is.
7a.)Increase this to 3 points rewarded instead of 1 and this issue is resolved.
8.) Meaningless stats overall. I have 500 Parry, yay. I have 200 elemental resistance for ice, Yay. I have no idea what these stats actually mean, yay.
8a.) Simplify the stats on the character sheet. Replace the 500 parry with a % parry. Replace the number elemental resistances with a % stat, give people the exact effects of all these things, because most people that play this game are not going to spend hours parsing this data out and figuring out what it all means over dozens of hours of testing.

Apologies for some reason i can only post 1000 characters at a time.
I absolutely will sub.
Already subbed 3 months on one service account, and one month on a second service account. I'll start a third service account in a few weeks, and will sub it as well. Once I have everything the way I want it, I'll be charged once a month for a 90 day sub.
Why? Because I can see past all the little issues and look at the game as a whole - It is a great game that I love to watch and play. It is not a game for narrow-minded people, and I strongly suggest that anyone of narrow mind move on to something simpler.
I already subbed for 3 months (returning 1.0 player). If it still checks out after that, I'll continue to stick around. If there are greener pastures by that time(hello WildStar beta +_+), I'll probably pack it in and move on unless I really like what I see.
Don't know, planning to get Diablo 3 (console) and GTA5 next week, and since my subs ends october 12th, we'll see...
I will be subbing for sure.

Already subbed, and I don't care if PVP sucks, as I won't be PVP'ing.
I will
I'm a PS3 player and I unsubbed 2 weeks after launch and hitting 50, far to many technical issues with the PS3 client and large scale FATEs/Dungeons for me to play until the PS4 client is released. I am planning to reactivate my sub for one month when the PS4 version releases however, but if nothing is overall a massive improvement in both lack of level 50 starter content and technical issues my sub won't come or won't last past those 30 days.
The only endgame content atm is Coil.... And as far as I know the only people who have cleared it, cleared it because the boss on Turn 5 glitched out.
I actually read through it all up to what Im at in the story. Im at level 40 in the battlecrafts and I took a huge detour into crafting/gathering because it was significantly more rewarding then the storyline was (for being fun) because like I said it just recycled the same things over and over again with new text and new skins/mobs, but ultimately the same exact thing over again, go get item a/b/c and a mob pops up on item b/c, ok thanks now go talk to npc a/b/c/d and come back to me, ok thanks heres lvl 20/25/30 gear for you. Whenever i go back to the story line I just feel like its a burden. Actually if i skipped the text id probably be done with the game by now story wise, Ive been playing every day since pre-trial started and Im not even finished with the quest line yet.
Adventurers aren't welcome, or trusted, everywhere. even in the 3 cities with adventurer guild, in story there is a high turnover rate. Many of the clients you end up meeting have their own problems and misgivings to handle, they're not going to just hand the keys over to you; especially if they can do the ol' "Say, while you are here, why don't you do this?" routine to lessen their load.
What, you don't like it? It's tedious busywork? That's why your questgivers AREN'T doing it.
Already subscribed for 90 days because instead of only focusing on leveling my main class, I decided to just craft at the same time so I could craft new gear for myself as I level. (I prefer to craft the items rather than farm a dungeon for them or farm my level up via fates.) Due to this as you can see I've barely leveled up so I still have a while to go before I reach "end game". Hopefully by then I won't need too many dungeon runs and I can once again craft all my stuff for myself :D
Sure am, I don't have a good reason not to right now...a chunk of crysta is already prepped for when I gotta apply subs!
You're an adventurer, its what you do. Some of them might even explain why they are having you give the guards tea. They aren't all going to be "Do this now or the Nation is Doomed/War is lost!" the adventurer's guild makes a point of telling you this, its part of your job description.
Paid six month sub. I want more voice-overs. I get super bored doing quests with tons of monotonous reading.
Secondarily, I'd like to see primals that actually require OT's. Yoshi told us he needed more tanks... but honestly look at all the group calls and tank is about the last thing needed.
3 month sub already. Will do again in 3 months.
Im gonna be paying 2 subs!
End game i cant say much on, but for me to have to spam CM and Ifrit 200 times to get gear to be able to run some of the later dungeons (Coil, AK, etc.) is not a good way to get people to keep playing this game. Now if they introduced a hard mode for all existing dungeons to get tomes and better gear from that would make it alot better. My understanding is were getting a new dungeon and 2 dungeons getting hard mode in the next patch so thats a step in the right direction. But right now as it stands, spamming CM to get DL gear is not fun.
Resubbed after my 15 day welcome back period. Wish I hadn't set it on auto though as I would've liked the 3 month sub.
No, it's not what "you" do, it's what "adventurers" do. Kevin Spacey doesn't play back alley theatres; it's what actors do, but it's not what he does. When you've bested Ifrit, Titan and Garuda your time is too damn valuable to spend it on stuff any adventurer could do.
I love this game and I see huge potential in the future, between the vision for end game as well as extra features they are adding in. In our Mog News Broadcasting Ep #4 we talk about some additions coming in with just the first patch. Things that are still coming are things like "Golden Saucer", more story, dungeons, Chocobo raising, Chocobo racing, gardens, Housing Workshops, and so on.
I put crysta on my account during the beta and as soon as mog station was live, I set up an automatic 90 day renewal. I'm in this for the long haul so I'm taking my time. For me its not a race and I think that is the big difference between people having fun and being satisfied and those bored and frustrated with "nothing to do".
Just my 2gil.
