Some of us can strategize while having a 1 second GCD and being able to use off the GCD abilities actually off of the GCD.

I, for one, actually enjoy the global cooldown and find it a lot of fun.
I believe it forces you to play smart and a step ahead, opposed to mindlessly mashing buttons without much consequence.
If you change the GCD you have to change everything else as well to balance it. Can't just turn down the GCD and leave everything else be. If you did that, monsters will be too easy to kill, there will be more complaining about make mobs harder. etc etc.

I miss the days of TP generation before the use of abilities. IMHO SE should flip it and start you with 0TP every time. As for sprint, tag a 30s cooldown on it. If you enter a battle while the cooldown is still active, halve TP generation until it finishes.
Generate 50+gear/stat modifier TP per auto-attack. Should work fine for the current ability costs. At that point you can easily reduce GCD to 1-1.5 seconds.
Seriously, let's slow things down... So sick of button-mashing.
A quick edit to add on to my point;
It will make party dynamics far more challenging and interesting. If you don't balance your TP usage as it is generated, and blow it all in one go, you may steal from the tank and wipe the party. Do too little, and you may not be doing your best for the party. As for limit breaks? Increase their potency and make them wipe your TP entirely, and as with sprint, halve your TP generation for 30 seconds. Limit breaks should be absolutely exhausting.
The new generation stole my fun in games. =[
Are you saying WoW HC raiding requires no strategy? Lmao. Are you saying WoW high rated arena requires no strategy? Both those things are way harder than anything in this game.
A long global CD and slow-paced combat just makes the game more dull and makes it feel less responsive. GCD needs a reduction indeed.
Sorry I'm not a huge fan of the GCD length but I can live with it.
This strategy talk is disheartening though. If you know the fight and you know what happens then how does a GCD change the strategy of the fight? "CHOOSE WISELY" ok, so I'm on paladin but because of the GCD if the monster uses his breath cast as I JUST used my Rage of Halone...I AM MISSING THAT STUN. I'm sorry but the alternative is for me to say to myself...he might breathe..now...maybe now..or now..can't use a skill cause I won't be able to stun...oh I used flash and NOW HE USES BREATH sweet jesus I wiped us because I couldn't play the waiting game. No strategy there folks.
Anyone know the NUMBERS at 50 for skill speed materia/gear that will allow GCD to come down to faster levels? Optimally I've read DPS classes shooting for main stat and have not seen a consensus on skill speed other than if its on the gear yay if not meh. No haste spell currently which is sad as Haste was so powerful if not broken in XI.
Please read till the end
What is this talk about strategy and choices? are you guys serious? Please, PLEASE don't believe this nonsense they are feeding you, and know this :
Longer global cool downs = less "abilities" sent to the servers per second, = LESS BANDWIDTH = CHEAPER COST
There is no way in hell that ANY gamer would take 2.5 seconds to decide what to do next with a class he spent months playing
This ridiculously long global cool down is a very common way for a company to lower bandwidth costs, its like when you go to a website and click refresh many times, some websites ask you to wait 15 seconds
of course, in a website its acceptable, but in a "fast paced mmorpg" its not.
If you want to be PRO long GCD, its your business, but DON'T repeat what the director said a while back " The long GCD is there because of strategy and decision making " because that excuse is just a lie to provide you with a low quality service..
Oh lawd I would love a snipped GCD..on anything except my WHM or BLM I feel like I'm just sitting there doing nothing 50% of the time..there is no reason to have a 2 sec CD regardless of what they feed you..
there's been several occasions where i don't need to use anything between gcds and have typed a whole sentence. well, you all are slow, i guess they won't speed up the game to cater to you. really a shame they will hold back the game for dumb, slow people.
i guess if they put the gcd to 5 seconds and cut the amount of utility abilities in half that would make the game even more "strategic" lol
I think the MMO you are looking for is TERA...
More to the point, if they sped it up any more people's TP/MP just wouldn't be able to keep up and hate would be all over the place.
Moronic OP.
I don't even want to think about how boring PvP is going to be with this GCD.
Combat is way too fast. Old FFXI had a great battle system. It had a great level of depth and complexity. It was slow but you had to keep on your toes and use the right stuff at the right time and work together with your teammates in order to complete your objectives. Otherwise you could die and fail. And there were actually consequences for that. This battle system makes for button spamming in the beginning and you don't learn your character until endgame.
these people are amazingly slow i think, if you need 2.5 seconds to decide on what to do in a video game you played for months... please... please, go play chess, checkers, monopoly, lots of other board games.
and btw, in FFXI, i fell asleep many MANY times while in a party, honestly....
the problem is, people like you said FFXIV 1.0 was a GREAT game , when we other beta testers said it was crap.
in the end, SE is a company that wants money, and as the game is doing right now (arr) it wont work, many have tried and failed miserably,
with the combat as slow as it is right now, only people like YOU would still play, which makes about .0001% of the gaming community,
PvP will fail, end game content will get boring very VERY quickly, even crafting is a joke right now.
there are alot of things wrong in this game, and GCD is on top of them.
and remember this... SE is like any other company , and they WILL do what WE want, because we are the majority of the gaming community, so there is nothing you can do. have fun with this slow game before its changed
I love it as a Dragoon. Always planning, always moving, always doing something.
Even though it won't happen...I say remove gcd and the whole tp system all together and let all weapon skills run off MP.Basically I'm saying turn ffxiv into tera...an action mmo.The combat is entirely too slow. Yesterday while I was playing I was watching a movie and not even paying to the game due to the slow repetitive combos you use over and over again with a 2.5 gcd. I see this game taking the combat to a whole new level if the gcd/tp system was removed.
That's not making the game into an action MMO. Tera is very different fundamentally; it's basically built for a controller, you mash one button, then combos follow up one after another if you chained them properly. On top of that, TERA has things like blocking, dodging, parrying, and aiming - all controlled by the player. FFXIV is tab-target. Drastically different systems.
Yea the GC is a little bit long and makes gameplay feel a little bit sluggish, but you get used to it in endgame.
But i wouldn't except any changes in the near future, the whole content is based on this combat. (Yoshida already said something about this)
But hey, i'm Monk so my GC is < 2.5 sec anyway :P
if GCD was any lower i wouldnt have enuff tp to do anything. Atm (without using invigorate) i run out of TP sometime during the final phase of titan (towards the start) as a monk. My GCD is 2.03 seconds. If gcd was lower even invigorate wouldnt be able to keep my tp up during long fights. The gcd is fine the way it is anyway. The game is ment to be slower paced and it feels kind of turn based, its nice.
I've had no issues at all with the GCD to be honest. In fact, it gives me a little extra time to think about my next move and to monitor my procs more closely. If everything is on a 1 second cooldown or less then it becomes a button mashing game.
The long GCD is at the same time horrendous and fun as a scholar.
Oh no, the boss used a big AOE with poison on the party, what should I do next ?
Should I cast Succor and pray that the tank won't go down ? Should I sacrifice one of the DPS and try to get the tank to a safe borderline ? Good thing I have a fairy that help me overcome the slow recast but a wrong move means a lot more than with faster pace. So hectic, so fun.
I guess a lot of DPS are doing the same. It's why they don't pay attention to the mob orders or move out of AOE.
If they lowered the GCD they would have to rebalance every single battle in the game as players would be able to chew through mobs at an alarming rate. I realize that recent MMOs have done little to counter the fostering of an "I want it now Mommy NOW!" generation of gamers who's patience can now be measured in halves of a second but slowing the content down does open the game up to a lot of older gamers to enjoy it as well as make decision more tactical rather than simply twitch based.
The GCD is fine the problem is the well documented lack of responsiveness and lag, e.g. when you interrupt a monster before its cast bar fills the ability should not go off and when you move out of a red zone you should not get hit with ability because the server isn't tracking your movement well enough.
GCD won't fix this:

It is also the main reason the combat can feel unresponsive and "sluggish". Instant cast spells should be instant cast. If you have 50 hp, use a self-heal (potion/second wind/etc.) and then get hit for 300 damage (according to combat log) then you shouldn't die and lose the item because the server registered the potion use after it registered the attack.
Every other MMO that had this issue fixed it, let's hope Yoshi and friends follow suit.
I think combat is too fast.
I would like turn based play please.
The reality is, what is fast for you is slow for others, and what is slow for others is fast for you. The true speed that should be set is based on market research on what would be an amiable attractive pace for the target of people that this game is trying to attract (which includes people new to MMO).
Would you like it so fast that those who like it fast are happy, but then there's only 10,000 people who play and the game get shut down?
Or would you prefer it to be slower but then 1million people play and the game persists.
I'd like it turn based, but I think me and the 7 others who would like it would not be enough to keep the game going ^.^;
Personally I love it now, it was a switch from Wow but once I leveled up a little it feels just right.
The combat is dull button spamming nonsense already. Slow it down, increase the complexity by a large degree, increase the variety of monsters (actual ability; not just model and animations), increase the difficulty and lower the exp gain by a dramatic amount across the board and we might have a combat system worthy of praise.

My thoughts when i read this. Except replace him with 10 yo kids.
Wow, do some players have the attention span of a Goldfish?
GCD is just fine.
