Here I thought SE liked making money. I've tried all 3 of my cards, paypal with all 3 cards, bank transfer, ultimatepay w/ all 3 cards. Nothing works at all. Proceed to amazon and bought a game or two just to see if the cards even work, payment processed successfully no problem. What gives?
Just got off the phone with customer support. No help whatsoever.
The representative said he "thinks" 401 is due to a credit card being used to many times and/or flagged for suspicious use -- I use my credit card frequently and have no issues with any other vendors or services, including FINAL FANTASY XI! -- and I got this on my first try, so that doesn't make sense. He also "thinks" 601 is due to errors on the bank's side, i.e. rejecting the transaction for some reason. Again, this makes no sense and I use the same card for XI.
According to him, either or both of these errors can place a block for as long as 24 hours. Repeated tries -- which, admittedly, I did -- can prolong the block. He doesn't know for how long.
He suggested I try again in "a few hours," which, if the block is for 24 hours or more, also makes no sense.
I'm not trying to bash this representative, but he definitely either 1) did not know how to resolve this issue, or 2) did not have the authority to do so.
I asked whether the block(s) can be lifted, and he said no.
He also suggested I try Crysta. I'll try that now, and post a follow-up.
For what it's worth, I was able to bypass this (Paypal with Ultimate Pay, Or regular CC/DC didn't work) by buying Crysta with an Ultimate Game Card. The UGC has authorized online resellers listed at the following page: http://www.ultimategamecard.com/buyonline.html - I used Offgamers, but you can use whichever you wish. They'll provide you with a PIN code after you pay for the card. After you login to secure.square-enix.com , you can choose "add crysta" on the left side, then choose the amount you wish to add. You'll be provided Payment options, choose UltimatePay. One of the tabs at the top should be Ultimate Game Card, and you enter the PIN you were provided when you paid for the online Ultimate Game Card. It should then work. This was the ONLY option I was able to get to work for me.
So weird we still didn't get any please be patient message
SUCCESS!!! (No thanks to SE)
OK so Crysta is the only way.
I had to go buy an Ultimate Gamer Card, got it from Offgamers
I went and tried to apply it to UltimatePay Point, but no go, cause if you try too many times through them it ALSO locks you out.
I called their Customer service number (877)-703-6339 (Which was a pain to find). They pushed through the application of the game card to my Ultimate play account AND that pushed through the Crysta points onto my account.
I updated my payment method and payed with Crysta points, and now I have access. 5 hours later, and SE didn't solve it, UltimatePay customer service did.
Way to get completely outclassed in Customer service AGAIN Square-Enix.
You'll notice every time that you tried to pay with a card you'll have a -$1 on your bank statement or whichever carrier you're using. As of now mine is at three -$1 so I stopped and called in. It's been well over an hour and 30 minutes of waiting...and based on the responses on this thread it seems as if this is just a plain joke. They can not make payments at all.
But I guess I can give it a try. Was going to pay for 180 days since I really liked the game...guess Square Enix hates us all haha.
I just purchased Crysta but it isn't showing up at all on my account page. Does it take long for it to show on the page? because I see Paypal already took the money
Reposting! SUCCESS!!! (No thanks to SE)

ok been on the phone for more than 2 hours and when they answer they just hang up the call!!!! assholes!
tried twice and the same problem
Tried to use 4 diferent credit cards and nothing:mad: all my credit cards are working perfectly and even took a dollar (1) from them! I hate them so much
tried to use Paypal and it get rejected:mad:
tried to buy crysta and same damn problem!
I hate you SE so much! they don't answer my tickets, no chat! no phone support!
worst Customer Support ever! SE should win the worst company of the year and not EA:mad:
Ohhh well its their loss, they will loose a Customer and I will loose a game.
Good luck people.
I'm getting this error, tried 2 credit cards, 1 debit card, each on subscription and Crysta, both failed.
Credit/Debit card resulted in 401 originally until now its giving me 601 on anything i attempt for subscription.
Crysta is just a flat 401 error which i don't want to even attempt PayPal as i hear some people had that go through but never received the Crysta, it just took their money and ran.
stop spamming. Maybe people would like SE to fix their problems and not have to go and buy a gamecard.
Had a payment go through on globalcollect via PayPal, $100 for 10000 crysta. My credit card was charged, but no crysta whatsoever. Feel so cheated.
That doesn't justify posting the same thing 6 times, some back to back.
Hey guys! Both my husband and I are having the same issue. I am not a legacy player, but my husband is, and neither of us can get play time to work (so it isn't just legacy people).
We have submitted 2 tickets (one from each account reffing the other's ticket existence) and my husband has received a reply, I have not. He got the standard "your bank's the problem" response, but I was even on the phone with my bank when we tried a payment and he said there was nothing even coming through. Nothing had before and nothing was now. So it isn't even reaching my bank in order for them to try and deny it! I am currently on hold with them (been nearly an hour and a half) and this is not looking well... I gotsta eat Enix!!! Geeze.
Anyway, Firefox is not the issue, our bank is not the issue, crysta hates us, nothing has worked. We have gotten a bit further with enix to the point of them asking our card stuff and how many times attempted and such, but no reply since. My hubby is now out of time and mine will run out in 14 days..... Please don't take the game away from me. :(
Also, we are mil serving abroad, but this is happening everywhere so I doubt this is the issue. How many mil peeps are on here? Because as we all know... the mil NEVER plays MMOs...... right?! /Sarcasm -_-
Just got off the phone with the rep from Square Enix...I would say everyone to save the trouble and DO NOT call because they really don't know what the issue is. They rep told me that he would think that it's because too many people waited until the trial period ended (which is today) to pay that the system had an overload and stopped taking payments altogether. Which...seems like it is possible. But first the log in and now the payments? Square Enix really didn't have any expectations for this game did they lol.
So yea, do bother calling them it's a waste of time and will get you very frustrated. Either go buy a game card and solve it that way, or just wait until Square Enix issues a statement (probably going to give more free playing time...)
I'm back in the game!
Okay, I concur with AmmaUltman: Crysta works for me. My path was the following:
1. Log into Square Enix Account Management at https://secure.square-enix.com/accou...n?cont=account . Under Payments and Service Fees, click Add Crysta. (Or, in Mog Station, under Square Enix Account Settings, click Add Crysta).
2. I just wanted enough for one month (I plan on trying regular credit card again next month), so I chose "Specify amount of Crysta to add to your account" and put 1500. (Note, you actually only need 1499).
3. On the next screen, you can choose either Credit/Debit card or UltimatePay. Credit/Debit card simply spits out the same old 401 we've come to know and hate. UltimatePay worked for me!
4. Within UltimatePay, you have several options. I went with the plain credit card option, and used the same credit card which SQEX/Mog Station keeps rejecting with 401/601. Guess what, UltimatePay accepted it.
5. Back in Mog Station, the 1500 Crysta I bought showed up immediately. I was able to subscribe for 30 days of standard service.
Oh one more thing... I have only tried putting credit onto my account once, even though my husband has tried multiple times. So my fail isn't being locked out due to too many attempts.
Also, my hubby has been trying to get this resolved for two weeks, so I doubt it is the payment system being overloaded that early on... I dunno. I wish they would just take my cash already! :(
Best of luck to you all who are still struggling.
Final note: For me, I don't think my browsers or credit card were the issue. I had the same problem with Chrome, Firefox, and IE. I do not use any adblock (e.g. NoScript) addons or software. My credit card works fine for FINAL FANTASY XI (to which I still have an active subscription, last charged on Aug. 30, 2013) as well as for UltimatePay.
I still don't know what caused this issue to begin with.
well I think we will have to wait at least a week for SE to fix the subscription problem
on the good side, the servers will run much better without thousand of players
cheers for SE
Error 601 and 401. Same problem. Had CE from 1.0, but registered in Australia. I'm not in Australia anymore, so I figured it was a region conflict with my card. Bought the CE AGAIN, went through the headache of making a new account. Applied the game, everything worked. Went to subscribe, error 401 and 601. I even tried to buy Crysta, but no matter what amount I choose, I get error 11000. So I literally have no options.
At this point, after all the games Squeenix has made, after having an MMO fail more miserably than any other in history, after countless complaints about bad customer service, I am convinced nothing short of bankruptcy or physical violence is going to get through to them.
I've dumped over $150 dollars into this game. I could hire someone for a wild night for that much, but to Square Enix that doesn't even add up to answering my support tickets.
Want to send them a message? Find another game. Because they don't care enough to keep you here.
I just did that, the only difference is that i used Paypal instead of card in Ultimate pay.I got a receipt from both Square and Paypal for the purchase but no crystals... i am getting tired of this company.
EDIT!!!!! - I just got the Crysta and it worked. I am in!!!!
If you have an APO Address tied to your CC/Debit card, you can't use it. If you're in a country that your card isn't from (I'm stationed in Germany, my card is US based obviously), you'll be declined by both UltimatePay and Global Collect. I used OffGamers to buy my ultimate game card, but they are also a Gold Seller website so if you don't trust them, there are other options at http://www.ultimategamecard.com/buyonline.html . Through them after you've put the required money on the Ultimate Game Card, you'll receive a 20 digit PIN either on the website itself (in the case of offgamers) or through the mail (If you use WalMart, for example). You can then use this to add Crysta using the UltimatePay option through https://secure.square-enix.com .
Anyone noticed this statement issued by Square Enix September 3rd?
So it HAS been a problem...but now its a big deal since today was the day most trials expired. Oh boy.Quote:

See the fun of this is i only ran into this because the automatic renewal failed. A friend of mine was given an email saying it failed. He went through and set it back up. This was at 6 AM central time though. I got the same thing but i didn't get to it until 9 AM central time.
So really it doesn't help that there seems to have been an hiccup on their end for the automatic renewal process.
When I checked my email this morning I saw a message from Square-Enix stating that an error had occured with my credit card payment. I had set up my card previously, and my game time just ran out last night. So I hit the Mog Station and tried the put the payment through again, I got 401 error. So I found this forum and found others having trouble as well. So I waited till 9am PDT and call support. I finally get a hold of someone and he tells me that they can not take care of the account payment and my best bet is to try to use a different browser or pay using Crysta. I tried Internet Explorer and I got 601 and 401 errors. I then tried buying Crysta through UltimatePay using PayPal, but it said PayPal Express rejected my payment. But I was finally able to buy Crysta through UltimatePay using my credit/debit card.
1) Log into the Mog Station. https://secure.square-enix.com/accou...est=mogstation
2) Click on "Account Services" in the top menu.
3) Click on "Subscription Services" in the middle of the page.
4) Choose the subscription type, subscription period, and crysta. Then click Next.
5) Make note of how much Crysta is needed to purchase this subscription.
6) Hover your mouse over "Square Enix Account Settings" then click on "Add Crysta". You may need to log into the Square-Enix Account page.
7) From the Crysta purchase options, select "Specify amount of Crysta to add to your account".
8) Enter the amount of Crysta from step four(4) above. Then click Next.
9) Select UltimatePay. The click Next.
10) Enter in your credit/debit card information. Then click Continue.
11) Enter in your information associated with that card. Then click Confirm Payment.
*NOTE: I got a message that my card was decline. I just clicked ok and went through steps 9 and 10 again. I had to do this a couple times and it eventually accepted my card.
12) Make sure the amount of Crysta you want to purchase is correct, then click Confirm Payment. Your Crysta should now be added to your account.
13) Go back to the Mog Station and log in again if necessary. https://secure.square-enix.com/accou...est=mogstation
14) Click on "Account Services" in the top menu.
15) Click on "Subscription Services" in the middle of the page.
16) Choose the subscription type, subscription period, and crysta. Then click Next.
17) Review the information and follow the prompts to complete your game time purchase.
SE please update us with info.
was worth a try. Im a Free Company master and i cant even get on cus of this error =(
ya Ultimate pay doesn't like me either
LOL... 17 steps just to pay for a subscription, no thanks. Maybe when SE sees a massive loss of players and revenue, they might do something about it. Until then, they won't get a dime from me. No one should have to jump through this many hoops to pay for an MMO. I honestly would love to see them go bankrupt, maybe then they could sell off the final fantasy brand to some company that would bring it back to its roots.
Yeah as I said UltimatePay rejected my Credit card at first, but I had to spam through it a few times and it finally accepted it. But I guess the easier workaround right now is the Ultimate Game Card.
After an hour of frustration with trying to figure out what's wrong, enabling scripts globally in noscript in firefox finally did it for me. When you submit the CC info you're entering it into SE's site. The site then passes it to the CC processor when you click the button. So there's no way to allow scripts from that site before submitting (it doesn't show up in the list at that point), and no indication that that's what's wrong when it fails. So I guess for me it was just simple user error.
You should have been given like a ~20ish digit code in the format of "AAAA-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD-EEEE", it should be all letters. That's your Ultimate Game Card PIN.
Log into your account at https://secure.square-enix.com
Click "Add Crysta" at the bottom left.
Choose the amount to add. If you added $15 to your ultimate game card, you should be able to redeem it for 1500 Crysta, for example. Click Next.
Choose "Ultimate Pay", then Next.
The payment window should pop up. One of the options should be Ultimate Game Card, and it will require a PIN. For me it is th default option. Put that code you received when you bought the Ultimate Game Card here, and click Add Card, and follow the instructions. This will redeem the balance of the card for Crysta, which you can then redeem for game time in Mogstation.
It should deduct from the total balance you put on the card, and lock that Ultimate Game Card to FFXIV:ARR, converting the remaining balance into ultimate points to be used in the future on the game.
