she looks weird to me
I'm going to agree with Kiote, as well. (HI KIOTE!) The blue accept on the lips has me worried that this is the final scheme. You'd think they'd change the overall skin tone before changing lip color. They also took great care with the pink and orange highlights in her air.
I guess I can relax a little, as some of you have mentioned that other primals follow the concept art very closely. I think Fern should be admonished for showing a hideous early stage to the fans, causing us to worry. I would rather have seen the texture-less model. BAD FERN!
I can see now why people complain so much about pictures of in-development content. Even if logically we know it'll be adjusted, we feel the need to provide feedback just in case they didn't intend to fix it. Regardless, it can't imagine a simple skin color change would be difficult.
Hey Yru!
That's the way I look at it. I'm not looking to debate the finer points of SE's Model Coloring, I'm just saying it looks finished to me and it looks wrong.
I did see a couple post back someone mention that she could have two forms. Having her suit up like Iceman could make for a pretty kool opening Cutscene.
Still think she looks more like Siren though. I think it's the ears, the eyes and the pink/orange.
Some dev response is required at this point. XD Sorry Ferne!
Please add the following to the OP:
THIS is what she will look like.

Too many people just reading OP and nitpicking on the sculpt/sub-tool/layer colors.... /facepalm
It might be helpful, but it's not necessary.Quote:

Anyone who knows this process (and I do) can assure you that the colors on that model are meaningless in the context of her final game look. The concept art will shows what she will look like (just as Garuda and Ifrit are textured/colored to match their respective concept art)
At least I can say "I told you so" ;)
I'd like to think that people might be clever enough to notice that the coloring on the sculpts looks nothing like the concept art (Which is both the foundation and the end goal of the model they are building)
This isn't rocket surgery people...
Right! I agree.
People sit around and complain about being led around by quest arrows when they can't even understand what a Work in Progress screen grab is, even with multiple people informing them in multiple ways. Even from the main source of the blog "(This is normal map sculpt data created using ZBrush for those of you keeping track)" No where does it say "HERE IS THE FINAL SHIVA IN ALL HER GLORY!"

You sir are on a level far beyond me. :P
I think some people are ignoring facts for the sake of arguing about what is evident. You can't state that just because we don't see the finished product that a preview of that product is clearly showing what the final will be like. This Shiva is missing virtually everything. It's not even in a format the game itself uses yet.
You've had the program it was created in explained to you along with what 3D art terminology means. You also have the concept art and yet you're still suggesting they've possibly decided to do some 180 with everything based on a very early/incomplete version lol
I'm with Zan on this one.
That could be the fault of the skin material they're using. This one has a soft blending mate material that gives it a reddish pink undercoat. A flatter material with a blank base would make the colors much more saturated. They probably chose a quick matcap to better display the model for an audience as it would show off the shadows more naturally.
In any case this model is far from what we will see in game.
Echoing what others have said.
Please get rid of the skin toned shiva. Her skin should be white or blue. The concept art has it right. I would not know that was a CG render of shiva unless someone told me it was.
Actually, I kind of like Shiva's look in this. It's new, different, and fresh. It really makes her stand out among the other more beastly looking Primals. I wouldn't mind if this was her final version.
Honestly, the more I look at it the more I think it has the default red wax material as an undercoat.
I'm gonna try something when I get home.
This is why SE needs to stop giving things in development, so many retards.
I found a better picture of Shiva!
:p
The hair looks terrible standing up like that; looks like the Axe commercial where the guy puts too much hair gel in his hair and takes a dive in the ocean with fish stabbed by his hair. Sorry, everything else looks fine but that hair.
Can't be red wax looks more like one of the default skin mat caps though.

Maybe though /shrug could be one of the sculpy too, but hard to tell with those screens.
It really is sad that I have to say this again in these forums..
These forums exist for the sole purpose of the players discussing what they do and do not like about the way the game is playing and being developed. It does not exist to tell people the things they are talking about are irrelevant because the game is not done yet.
It does not matter that there is a method of sculpting 3D models that could result in Shiva looking like this before she is finished.
It does not matter that you are a professional with years of experience doing what is displayed in the screen captures.
The Designer for this model could choose to or not to use the color scheme shown in these pictures. That is not relevant. If you do not say that you do not like this color scheme, you are saying that you do like this color scheme. To be silent is to accept the status quo.
I would never venture to say that this is the final model. I've seen Developers change things a few days before launch. I merely pointed out that the amount of time put in to creating the current color scheme is not on par with what we normally see from Square-Enix.
All that said, Stop attacking people for expressing an opinion different from your own. You can sit by quietly and not discuss a topic. Right or Wrong does not matter. The conversation is what counts.
Like I said at the beginning, I think SE is using the forums as just one more tool of development after all they release things here and answer questions here and I think they would want to hear all opinions. :P
Again... Afro-Shiva. There's still time.
Give me frosted eyelashes, or give me death.
in my opinion i think she is the best looking Shiva yet. She is what I'd imagine as an ice goddess.
my god those hips and thighs
it looks alright i think they could had done much better job but better then nothing lol
Thal's Balls! These forums are hot enough to melt an ice goddess.
I suppose some of that might be due to slight lack of info in my latest Developers' Blog post. (Looks around... Crickets chirp...) Okay, I suppose most of that might be due to a slight lack of info in my latest Developers' Blog post.
So, I just wanted to pop in to clear things up.
The ZBrush models you see are a Work In Progress. The colors you see are mostly for aesthetic purposes so the designer's eyes don't bleed after staring at a grey blob all day, and the final textures will more than likely end up being a lot similar to what is shown in the original concept art. YAY!
Even with that said, works in progress are just that, and as the work progresses, Yoshi-P may have an epiphany and decide to give her a second head, convert one of her legs into a machine gun, and rename her Jezebel (hopefully not, though... At least the second head part...)
Either way, I apologize again for the confusion, and in future Dev Blog posts, we'll make sure that works in progress are properly tagged and branded.

For those of you not familiar with ZBrush, a few users such as Hulan, Zantetsuken, Imoen, and Gramul have already posted (in this very thread!) some basic info on the program, and what it's used for.
I am going to assume her colouring is not finished yet and she will indeed have the blue hues of the concept art.
Gawd she is back to extract revenge on me for lvl 20 soloing her on ice day 1/1 in FFXI
I know I will die many times before a win this time XD
Thanks for the update Ferne! :)
And now I see the comments earlier... really people?
It is so blatantly obvious she is not a final model... look at the quality, look at the colour look at the blasted concept of which they are aiming for!
Turning a kind sneak peak into your royal WAH fest so utterly ridiculous i think I need to go lay down
I could totally get behind a primal named Jezebel!!
Thank goodness. I don't like to be harsh, but it would not go over well with Shiva looking like a Guado from Final Fantasy X.
Edit: I had an epiphany. Monsters have body parts you can incapacitate, such as Ifrit's horn or every head on the Chimera. Will we be able to break Shiva's haircicles off?
Square-Enix gearing up for their Wrath of the Ice Queen expansion!
Best Reps Ever.
Thanks for the clarification!!!
I hate to be negative, but I'm not happy with how the rendering came out. I like the concept art, but the render just doesn't look right. Way too much pink in her clothing, skin is too peachy (it should be pale or bluish), and her hair is so dark gray it's overpowering the blue highlights. I didn't even recognize who this was supposed to be until I started reading further into the post. To a long-time Final Fantasy fan, Shiva should be instantly recognizable.
The concept art is great, though, IMO. Hope the final product looks more like it.
Edit: Just read Ferne's update. Glad to know the colors are just a placeholder!
