So you like leves, which have an arrow which completely directs you to the objectives you need to complete, where you often "kill x mobs" and then return to camp, but you vehemetly detest the idea of having an NPC ask you to do this same thing? I really don't understand the issue.
1.0 -> Leves, dungeons, mob exp
2.0 -> Leves, quests (aka leves with cut scenes), dungeons, mob exp
Not seeing the problem. Honestly while I don't absolutely "love" questing, I do wish that quests in this game gave any semblance of decent experience. I swear I spent like an hour and a half on this one botanist quest and got like 3k exp for it. And while the story was ok, I was hoping to get a large amount of experience out of that sort of time investment. Haven't really gone through to do any other class quests since that one.
You mean it's not on rails now? Currently people grind/leve combat jobs to 35ish, then do Raptor parties > Natalan Spirit bond parties. There isn't a lot of pathfinding and exploration going on anyway... once people find a workable solution to a problem (ie finding the fastest way to level), every bloody person follows the template. So yes, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that FFXIV players are just like the majority of most MMO players in that you don't really give a damn about the lower levels, and your biggest goal is to rush to end game.
Now if you're looking to take it slow, you can definitely still grind on mobs. It just won't be at the fastest speed possible. The days of standing in a corner in Valkrum and killing crabs for 200 exp a pop are over. If you want that group feeling, we'll actually have lowbie dungeons where you'll have to do MORE than just stand in the same grid square killing everything that spawns. Right now, we really only have Toto-Rak, which largely goes unused for leveling (instead it's a 2 man seal farming location)
In addition, I know people who have several lv50 classes/jobs and they still have yet to complete their main/GC storylines. Why not give players their storyline (in brief chunks) along the way to 50? One other note, I truly doubt they'll add enough quests to take every combat job up to 50 by questing alone. So that's where you fill the gap with dungeons, leves, and yes, mob grinding exp (although that will be the least attractive option).
I know some people have this amazing aversion to anything WoW does, but it does get silly. I wonder if some people have the idea that ffxiv is a sandbox MMO (which it definitely isn't, but will be getting sand box elements come player housing etc). It's a theme park, no matter how you dice it. That's not saying it's bad to have a theme park MMO, especially if it's well done.
"Jobs to progress by clearing quests rather than gaining EXP" -Taken Directly from the SE system and content list planned for 2.0
I really, really hope they change their minds about that part for 2.0. That will definitely completely destroy the normal exp camping route. I don't care about quest arrows and what not, but this easily ruins any choices of progression we had before.
I can't think of any games that don't have aspects of linearity, this thread makes me laugh.
Congratulations Klaus to your first relic.
- sux not to be Server first dosent it? -
is that your epeen im smelling?
pfff... you are nothing & get nothing done without your LS members, remember that Klaus!
They help you get things done, and you come on here poluting their reputation for what reason?
How many jobs you got at 50 klaus?.... slacker. (ya that was just to make a point)
Do actually do anything good for your LS, besides being a assrider & running around trees in Hamlet?
Perfection skills at best i guess. (my bad...your the odd sheep in that ls arnt you?)
Ooh ooh, say hi to Aurr Eon for me, i hope he liked the "Cock Feather" he got as reward
for repairing my Conjurer weapon not long ago. (think it was last month)
Atleast one of your members got a sense of humor/intelligence.
Is getting a relic really that hard?
I see a bunch of them around.
It took a long time until we coudl see a relic in FFXI.
You are misreading the quote and not understanding how Jobs work, Jobs are not your class. Therefore, when you xp grind on quests, mobs, leves, or dungeons your class gets the XP and the Job doesn't. Your Job is the same level as the class it is equiped to. The quests used to level up said job is to get Job related abilities and gear. You don't level a job seperate from your class. They are a specialization of your class not seperate. I hope this clarifies your misunderstanding if not... just eat up anything Rokien says and thinks those kind of quotes have anything to do what we or he says.
Hmm. I like your explanation, as we already have those Job quests, so this wouldn't be a change. That'd be fine with me. So, just let me continue to level effectively by mindless killing/grouping, SE, and I'll remain a happy camper.
Just a note, I don't listen to what anyone but the Devs say when it comes to important info, unless I can find that same info myself. ^^
The only part when the quest becomes challenging is when you start the faction leve (except for whm). Garuda takes a bit of practice if you haven't focused much on her and then Ifrit extreme is quite challenging until you get accustomed to him.
To be honest, XI relics were harder to get in theory. Yet considering that one had the option of just making it a huge gil sink, I think the subject is debatable.
You know lol, I find it funny that ppl wave their relics around when clearly it took 7 other ppl to get them. On top of that, they were probably gifted all of their hamlet seals. Lol.
Tell you what. If someone comes up to me and goes: "I got this relic through pick-up groups," I'll be seriously impressed. I think then you can start bragging about how awesome you are. Waving your epeen around in a thread because your LS got you a relic is the silliest thing I've ever heard. Getting a relic through ls increases *their* epeen...not yours as an individual. Goodness.
For all we know you could have been as good as cannon fodder the whole time.
why and how is this thread even still going?
some good info

In 2.0 the style is where you follow the ! point to point but would like quests that doesn't follow this style.
It's bit uncomfortable when it displays the NPC locations for those which you have to find someone or something.

Would like different patterns as well. For other example aside from those one pattern style where you talk to someone with ! mark, bring item, clear.
Have it where you pick up a mysterious item and by having that item quest happens and you clear that. Would like many variations of quests which doesn't make it boring.
クエストについてのご意見・ご要望ありがとうございます。
Thank you for the suggestions, comments regarding quests
新生版では、すでに存在するタイプのクエストに加え、通常フィールド上で定期的に発生するようなクエストの実装を検討しています。「謎のアイテムを拾って発生するクエスト」のようなものも検討中ですが実装時期については未定です。
In 2.0 aside from already existing quests we are looking implementing quests which occurs timely on regular field. We are also looking into quests where you pick up mysterious item. Release date is not set yet.
「!」の表示については、こちらでもコメントしましたが、対象を探して欲しいクエストの場合には、探究要素を残していく予定です。
Regarding the ! display, was already commented here (link to previous post) but for those we want you to search the target we are planning to leave feature where you need to research.
Oh noes they're copying GW2 dynamic events! /sarcasmQuote:

Sounds awesome what they're trying to do. Every new news about 2.0 is making me want it more and more!
Lol ikr? Inb4 GW2 clone. It works really well though, I play GW2 and its fun. You can do things like gather and grind your level at the same time. Nothing like mining, seeing an event pop up, doing it for some fat xp, then back to mining. I'm glad they're adopting it.
rarr rrarrrr WoW suxxx gw2 owns rabble rabble reer
lolllllll
doritos and mountain dew.
right. i'm playing gw2 a bit and i can't say it's a bad game, either. i'm just laughing because i saw this coming a mile away. people slamming WoW and trying to use gw2 as the new gold standard, claiming it some mythical and different creature- when it's really no such thing.
the dynamic events aren't even that dynamic. it was advertised as being things that would happen one time and change the game's future forever. except they're repeated, over and over again. it's scripted. so are the world bosses. the only thing 'dynamic' about it is that it seems to be a time-based lottery 'pop' system.
furthermore, people complaining about WoW's questing system is odd to me because no matter how you slice it, gw2 is quest-based leveling. you almost can't level without it. grinding mobs nets you close to zero xp. and while yes, you can choose which quests to participate in and in which order, you're still effectively accepting or declining the quest just the same as if you were to pick it up from an NPC. the difference is you just automatically get it if you're in the area and automatically decline it if you leave. if anything gw2's questing system is dumbed down even moreso than WoW's.
and again, i'm not even remotely saying gw2 is a bad game. it's a really good game for its intended market and does what it does pretty well. it just seems like people blindly leap to prejudgments about this or that game and then wildly defend/attack it against all logic/reason/evidence.
so now i'm just sitting here laughing at my desk about people complaining about "wow clone" this and "wow clone that" (usually without having ever actually played wow), only to defend games that either also rip it off, appeal to the same demographic, make the same mistakes, or do pretty much exactly the same thing but slap on a fresh coat of paint or fancy new buzzword term to describe it.
mmo on rails indeed.
Woah woah woah woah.
How dare you say anything negatively about Guild Wars 2. How dare you try to tell me that my MMO isn't the holy grail and has just been hyped to hell and back.
How dare you. Guild Wars 2 is a completely new and unique and innovative experience!
sorry, i don't have time to apologize.
too busy running around this entire damn map trying to get 100% completion so i can level up... because this game actually punishes you for killing mobs (6xp yeeeeeeey) and pretty much railroads you into leveling through a specific method... which is something people have complained about in every MMO before it (which, incidentally, i was also promised gw2 would break the mold on...) blase blase
anyway brb i need to go water this farmer's crops for 20 minutes to complete this 'dynamic' event i did at least 4 times yesterday, too
Its a quest I don't have to run to go get. Thats basically it lol.
Yeah its basically a more convenient version lol. My only gripe is that you can't grind mobs for good xp. I hate questing. At least I can get xp in WvW, thank god.Quote:

Lmao the funny part is people think its vastly different. Thats why ads work so well, generally the population is rather clueless. The best thing about GW2 is the ally system, but for some reason that hardly gets any press. Having everyone around you count as party members in the open world is sooo handy. No kill stealing, no loot stealing, ppl will actually go out of their way to help you, all because everything counts for everyone as long as they contributed to the kill. Genius. Although obviously this doesn't work in every MMO for lore reasons. But its so smart I'm surprised I haven't seen it before.Quote:

Really the only thing GW2 changed in terms of questing is removing the need to run back and forth all the time. Now you can just stay out of town, or the quest hub, and go where you want while still being able to pick up quests. What sucks is that lvling is really slow if you miss events.
The thing about guild wars 2 and FFXIV, LEVELS DON'T MATTER in gw2!
GW2= FF2? Everything goes to skill ups ( No levels)? GW2 COPIED SE!! oh noes!!! :P XD
