Oh sweet jesus, I hope so.

OMFG I literally cried at that Limitbreak animation. How epic is that! I want to see more!!
How can you know the status of the game? Are you in the dev team or was it announced?
Protip : it's not because an alpha version isn't available to the public that it mean that the development didn't reach alpha stage.
Being alpha have nothing to do with public availability. Even if it's a "closed" alpha. The game could have gone alpha 3 months ago without you being aware of it.
Here's some more added Screens from the Presentation Thanks goes to Reinheart for finding it!

im all excited for 2.0 now, seeing how different it looks and feels the game, makes me want to start from scratch, now i hate even more the 1.0 version, but now i can wait.
SE this is the stuff that makes people keep playing your game, start releasing more of this ><
Ok, aside from what I said since it was the first thing I noticed.
The game... looks... absolutely... stunning. I'm getting the gut feeling where I'm so excited that I just want to know everything now.
Also, when I saw limit break:

I'm Loving it <3 ~ but! Imagine how Summoner will look like in this Masterpiece!?? i know i'm still dreaming & i hope this dream will come true soon~
Anyways~ I hope they give us more choices for private chocobo music theme.. i feel bored & annoyed over time with the current one. Also, i want to see how much has our beloved cities changed? might also want more final fantasy like skins for Gear UI~etc because the one i saw was simple but not so good looking, though i liked chat log with NPCs <3 .
This is just my opinion :3, i only wish if they hear it .
Again~ I'm Loving it <3 .
Hontou ni arigatou~ Naoki Yoshida :3
That video made the 1.0 ones we saw with "Red Lotus Blade" at gamescom 2010 look so whack!(You remember the boring archer right)? The future is looking bright for FFXIV ARR! *Take Me*

Only difference I see between the "supposed" alpha vs. beta is AA is turned off in alpha and is on in beta..Actual gameplay/graphic comparison are the exact-same, to me.
Any vids in high-quality? There had to be more than one-person with a camera there?!(be-it German or not and fyi, I do not believe the person who made the random-german comment, made it as a racial-slur or to defame people of Germany..and entitled?! c'mon. random bs-% that 98% of forum-replies are condescending, at best. "example" all the "grass-comments" dragging hate from one topic to an other)
Yes, what with it's distinct lack of primals and other traditional, awesome summons if Yoshi has his way.
I'll take a pass on SMN this time, thanks - it's sounding like it'll be even worse than it was in XI. As far as SMN goes (to me) it's either go big or go home - big, powerful & flashy effects for lots of MP that are meant to swing the tide of battle in a pinch and not silly roflpets that are purposely gimped for the sake of balance.
I know I'll probably get flamed for this comment, but am I the only one that went "Danm, would you look at that? looks like Bliz. let SE use their game engine."
The basic movement looks exactly the same. The way the camera seems to lock at points, but is also freely movable when moving (seems different from how it currently acts). The way they seemed to remove alot of the movement lock from actions...
It's not the graphics that look similar, it's the basic gameplay that looks the same.
edit; not saying it's a bad thing, but had to point it out.
Quick translation of the key points of the article above:
- August 15th was a 'business day', and hence was only open to the media and (I'm assuming) distributors. Tomorrow onwards it will be open to the public with up to three demonstrations a day, but it will cover the same topic/information.
- Gold Saucer confirmed as a 'casino' area, but will not be available immediately after launch. It will be implemented in the future.
- Confirmed avatars available for summoning/will be in story: Ifrit, Garuda, Titan, Leviathan, Shiva, Odin.
- Lots of content available in public areas for casual users.
- The 'Limit Break' system is indeed the replacement for the Battle Regimen.
- The demonstration was done through a private server located in Japan, played by Mocchi behind the stage at the Gamescom presentation.
- The specs for the computer running the demonstration was a 'high-performance desktop PC' (by today's standards). They did add that there will be no problem running the game smoothly if you can run the current FFXIV, however.
- The BLM Limit Break was, matter-of-factly, Meteor.
- Yoshi-P explains that the reason behind SE's decision to forgo an release of an official gameplay video was in part due to him not being totally satisfied with the current quality and to avoid neglecting the Japanese users/playerbase. He also adds: "please look forward to the Final Fantasy 25th anniversary event".
I predict there will be some rage over the last part, but take it what you will.

Many of them things you mention are a staple of Modern MMO User Interface Qualities.
People want quick response, familiar controls, and familiar User Interface elements in order to lessen the difficult and learning curve; while still providing a unique feel to the game.
Many of these things were brought to light before WoW or Blizzard as you so put; however, this does not make it the "same" game. Would you say all FPS are the same because they have Guns on the screen, and the bullets to the side?, Would you say that Age of Empires and Starcraft are the same?, Or how about Theatrhythm and Guitar Hero?
While comparisons can be made from both sides, it's what the game plays like, feels like and ultimately contains that really sets it apart from the competition.
Those are standard features of any game engine -- especially within the past 15 years.
Huh....so thats what would happen if FFVII and Skyrim had a baby together.
Quite true, but the current systems used in Crystal engine and what are on display in 2.0's build are markedly different. I was mostly stating how similar the new build is to WoW, as that is what it most closely resembles over any other current (MMO)RPG I've recently played.
Also true, and I agree. It's not often that new games in a similar genera have entirely different control schemes, the trick is trying to hide similarities.
It's all about hiding the similarities when it comes to making games "unique" these days, because (let's face it) the diversity of gameplay and gameplay mechanics has become smaller and smaller over the years. There are designs that work, and those that don't (most of which get phased out quickly or end up killing profits).
Content is the more important factor in it all, either way.
I agree! Though I dislike it when people see this as a bad thing. They seem to forgot that, there is a reason WoW is successful, and that's because it did bring refreshing new design to the MMO market; like it or not, that cannot be denied. Perhaps it'll be time for ARR to do the same.
I think there is plenty of unique design, mechanics, style and love put into FFXIV:ARR; their biggest challenge is just convincing people to come back and give it a shot. A few clever things will go a long way to making the game successful though. Ideas such as Open Betas, and a Benchmark that perhaps include a Character Creation with the proposed "Character Trial" section of ARR; giving players a chance to run around and do emotes will certainly go a long way in helping this goal.
I can't believe today turned into a Grass trolling day.. /doublefacepalm lol
there nothing wrong with borrowing from the things other mmos have done right. WoW just happens to be one that has done the UI and response best. I stand by SE as they move forward and introduce the content finder and 24 man content as well. (WoW supposedly came to the conclusion that 25man max was the best number for "big raids" or some crap lol)
from the video i saw nothing that made me once think "WoW clone", the style and combat was still very much the ff 14 pace that Ive come to like, i just finally get to fell my greatest enemy in orzea...fences!
btw rip off the living hell outta the wow macro system. copy and paste the code for all i care :P
I have no problems playing FFXIV with the settings I have now, aside from the normal crowded areas like Ul'Dah, which my framerate drops 5~10 FPS.
However, if I can run Skyrim (don't what else to compare to)on Ultra with very little to no issues in framerate, I think I'll be just fine.
i7 920
6GB RAM

All in stock, too. No OC whatsoever.
I hope the new engine can render textures better than current. I hate that bubble around the character where everything looks great, and just outside it everything looks blurry. It's really noticeable in LL with all the rocks.
That DRG spams Dragonsfire Dive like it has a 10 sec cooldown >.>
does anyone know if we are to have official gameplay footage?
Its ok to see the shaky off-screen stuff but would be nice to be able to properly see whats going in (and some English subs would be nice to understand whats being said :-)
