You cant watch the wuk vs big speen fight cutscene and tell anyone the voice acting is good when she's just saying the words the exact same way she speaks in casual conversation with no urgency or volume or exertion.

Is it only Wuk Lamat's voice actress or is it all of them?
I can pull up japanese Hien and english Hien and the emotional output is miles of difference.
Likewise with Alisaie; the english voice actress of her sounds like she's about to go to sleep compared to her japanese voice actress.

This is a director'c choice, not an issue with the voice actors/actresses from what I've seen.

It's not only a problem of choice, it's probably also a budget problem.... I think a big part of the dubbing budget was for the JP voice (it's very well know that seiyuu wage are high)

The voice acting for her is great and probably one of the better aspects of the expansion.
Its her writing that i think puts people off.

Anyway, the real issue people should have with the voice acting is the director themselves. VA's don't get any visual contexts, nor do they get any audio contexts from other languages (and sometimes they don't even know what the character they're voicing even looks like). If the director doesn't do a good job actually directing, or telling the VA's to do another take or so on, then you're gonna have some moments sounding weird. Wuk Lamat sounds fine in some scenes, great in emotional (sad) scenes and... yeah, there are even scenes where I audibly said "yeah that needed another take, or at least required some sound editing" (I'm talking about when she's yelling down at us from high above in her castle).

Sililos is correct; bringing up accents as a point of anything really does nothing for the voice actress's performance analysis when none of the asian characters sound asian at all in ffxiv.

Correct. Like that english scene with Alisaie sounding half asleep and then going "I amh nohhht alphinoooAuuUdD"
xiv's english dub has always been like this. It has been directed to sound "muted" compared to the other languages.

For most of the expansion she was bearable, but destroyed the climax moment with her horrible acting in the most important moment.

even people that call him a her get met with the same responses that i get so really there is no point. any and all who criticize are thrown to the wind to be dismissed or that we're wrong so like whatever. and yeah unfortunately when the threads for criticism get locked, people will flock elsewhere.

edit: German and Japanese did amazing voice acting for Lamaty'i and i'm happy to say that and appreciate that.

Not the right topic for this, but the idea of identity crisis is kind of inherent to the whole thing. Gender dysphoria and all. It's not transphobic to recognize the fact gender dysphoria exists, causes identity crises, or that people's identity can be fragile during vulnerable moments.

It's probably transphobic to utilize that realization to hurt those people during those very moments. Intentionally. (Unintentional misgendering is rarely considered a huge problem unless it's clearly... well, intentional)

So yes and no.

It would indeed be nice if this forum had proper moderation. I for one, get really tired of getting lumped in with trolls and all my arguments and criticisms ignored because of that.

Because they weren't trying to make stereotypical asian accents, unlike the weird Dawntrail voices that try to sound Latin American.

I think her voice is ok. Just some drama queens and kings getting attention in forum.

I'm just posting because I have feelings about everything that I have been witnessing when it comes to the new MSQ and the horrible treatment of the voice actor of WukLamat. This is to me because I think anyone who plays this game understands that from people running around with Pixie wings to people role-playing right in the middle of one of the plazas, this should not be such a big deal. I mean this game has been one of the places where I have met the most unique individuals I've ever met and made many different friends. From me going to role play and nightclubs, doing epic hunt trains and even clearing my first extremes with randoms. I cannot understand how such hatred can exist for someone who is just living their life without harming anyone and making an amazing character come to life with excellent voice acting.
And I was very excited about this new region, especially as someone of color it's amazing to see this different region and how they broke the law from the cultural legends into the game in a way. And to see so many people just being hateful leaves such a bad taste in my mouth because let's be honest from all of the stories and characters we have seen up to this point I would put her if we're talking about annoying or very repetitive characters at least #10 with some of your favorites being up higher on that list. Because let's be honest a lot of the characters that we like now grew on us over all of these years which was you know three main expansions worth of character development. This is a new expansion with our whole group of new characters added and we have to see how they grow and what their relevancy will be in the future updates. And honestly, I look forward to it hopefully we'll see a lot more broke with the characters we have been introduced to in this starting half of the expansion onwards.

Why is the first thing that they write misgendering before death threats feels kinda strange if you ask me. Also the post was in a response to a person saying that if they have the writers strike we may get a good new English va for wuk (no death threat in that post). The problem I have this day and age is what too believe because a lot of people hide behind LGBTQ as a shield from critics and try earning sympathy points from this. And after seeing this persons other tweets I would say for myself it’s more the second then the first thing.

I mean I had worse death threats and people telling me they beat my ass in old CoD lobbies then whatever happens here. Voice acting and acting in general is a polarising job and even more so if you get a main character role. Your entire performance makes or breaks the game or expansion and if you fluff it up then people will fire at you, some nice and some are ass holes. Like I work as team leader in customer support and the threat of violence at the phone is pretty common, but you don’t see and hear us having a meltdown over stuff like this and try gather sympathy points form the online crowd like this person is because they are LGBTQ and let’s be real if this person wasn’t LQBTQ and trans this entire drama would never be this big.

When a story high note makes you cringe and your ears bleed then yes it can ruin the entire rest of the expansion. Or in general any emotional part the English va had was cut short by the most boring and sleepy sounding voice acting you can do. Like the person even says they lack some voice range for this kind of field and then still do the role knowing they can’t perform the best.

The VA is consistently bad at every important moment frfr, with the spene lisun to mi, being a perfect example and therefore one people will continue bringing up frfr. Frfr when 90% of the expansion's VA belongs to one single character, it is very valid to round up and say the entirety of the VA is bad. Ohio skibidi frfr.

I think Sena Bryer did a great job and I was overjoyed to see a trans voice actor in FFXIV. Wuk was pretty endearing and Sena conveys her naive optimism well.

It wasn't perfect (speeeeen), but I really don't think that's her fault. The English voices were all over the place in Dawntrail - Thancred, Y'shtola, everyone in Shaaloani... I mean, Erenville's entire village had a standard American accent, which is hilarious and inexplicable when he's standing next to his mom. Something went really wrong with direction, quality control, and in-world consistency here, but that's not on the VAs.

Wuk voice actor is very close to the Farleen voice actor from Star Ocean. Very close. Just back then, they had worse acoustics so Wuk ends up not being "the worst". Or maybe having better audio makes the voice more grating on the ears with modern tech. So I think the worst is taken by him currently.

On one hand you should never doubt this kind of thing as it is pretty common with die hard fans but on the other hand when some one writes the word misgender first and the death threats later even I smell something fishy
