It's not at all, that is why they would throw a fit about it. They even put it on their own site as an indication! What other reason if not for either monetary use and/or recognizing an intellectual property right (which doesn't exist on culture) would they complain?

Yep, money. They are not being paid for what they claim is their intellectual property. The only place their "rights" are recognized is Finland. The U.N. recognizes the 'fundamental and human rights' as Indigenous, just like they do every other person in the world. That doesn't mean their clothing fashion and color of clothing is a human right. SE is not denying them fundamental and human rights.

Keep trying white knight. Again, you can't copyright culture. It's not property.

Can't deny my problem being with this organization, sami council. Firing demands like "they're selling virtual gakti, so ripping us off", when it simply is not. The glamour piece is not gakti. It doesn't look like one, it depicts as being inspired by traditional clothing of finnic, ugric and samodic peoples - hodgepodge of many things.

They just high on themselves,.. thinking the colours and patterns is created/owned by them..
which is not true.. there plenty of other cultures.. with similar colours and patterns all over the world!

I dont see why this as a problem as its different, it does have some similar colours but the patterns and form/look of the outfit is original.
idk I would probably celebrate it if it was something that resembled my culture that made it into a game this big.

Doesn't the Sami council only speak for like five families, and they have a history of embezzling money and keeping it from the indigenous people they represent making sure they get very little or nothing while the main families in charge of the council rake in tons of cash. Aren't they also real quick to claim anything once they see it makes a decent amount of money that they can possibly get a paycheck for

Most likely just anti-Sámi propaganda. There are only some +110 000 Sámi people with 9 different sámi languages so of course there are only a few families. There are significant historical reasons for their aggressiveness so I won't say that it's only about money.

Hello I know this has been a issue for quite a while and I felt since I am a descendant of the Sámi tribe I felt it would be worth throwing my hat into the ring. I feel that the coat being on the mog station without any discussion with the representatives of our tribe. It not having any explanation within the game does not help their case. If Square Enix is striving for respectful representation of cultures that they draw inspiration from they should take the initiative to adjust the failure to represent the cultures they have pulled from prior. The best way to handle it is to change the coat entirely and then refund those have purchased it or redesign it and give the players who have it give them the option to either refund or to keep the new version of the coat. They could then consult the Sámi and find a way to implement the Sámi traditions into the game in a far more tasteful way. Thank you for your time reading this. I hope this words resonate with those at Square Enix who strive for respectful representation within this world we all love and make memories in. May you ever walk in the light of the crystal.

We all have cultures where we come from and I’d rather not live in a world where everyone has to ask for permission to wear fantasy costumes that may or may not have been inspired by real life trends. Whether they come from my culture, or others.

Asking to limit creativity and freedom of expression only leads to tyranny and a much more dull and boring world. When diversity thrives and ideas are shared, even fashion, the world thrives.

Unless you want to live in a world where others can tell you what you can or can’t wear and you can do the same to them I would encourage you to understand that just because you can be offended doesn’t mean others will or they designed certain things with the purpose of being offensive.

As someone who is Jewish I like that a lot of the male hair styles feature what I would call "payos" (payot, sidelocks) they don't look exactly like the most common style seen in the community, and I doubt the designers used those as an inspiration, it's just a coincidence, but I was still amused to see them. It's good to be inspired by and appreciate other cultures, if it is done respectfully isn't it a good thing to share culture?
